A big part of the addiction is the psychological side of it. For some that can be worse than the physical addiction. A trick to counter that, every time the thought of I want/need a cigarette pops in your head, STOP, take a breath and say "No I don't, I want/need nicotine".

It takes time for some people, keep at it, try some other flavors, nic strengths, types of toppers, and eventually you will find the combination that works for you.

You are so right. That is just what I did at first, too. When the feeling came, I just told myself, "Your body is getting the nicotine it needs. This is just the Ghost Habit messing with your brain." It helped.

"I'm desperate to stop smoking analogues! It's upsetting me that I'm finding the switch really hard! "

First thing is you are getting frustrated with not stopping smoking immediately. Don't sweat it. Smoke and vape if you need to and gradually reduce your smokes. Took me 2 months to be fully weaned off the smokes.

Try WTA (Whole tobacco Akaloids) Until I used a bit of that, I was never satisfied.

You got to want to quit before you have any chance of quitting.

You are right! If I have cigs in the house I will smoke them. Problem is I panic when I don't have any in the house. I think I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and throw all tobbaco away.

Going to order some 24 tobbaco flavoured juice and see how that goes. I think the sweet flavours I've been vaping makes me want to smoke more as it's like I've just had a meal.

good luck. and once you've gone about 24 hours without a ciggie consider adding one of those "hey [MODERATED], i'm xx hours/days smoke-free." signatures to your profile so they show up at the bottom of your posts.

i know that seems like a trivial thing but i found it added a bit of psychological encouragement to not relapse.

I would get a better battery/cartos and 24 mg juice. And I wouldn't have a "stop vaping" place. Just vape...chain vape if need be. And when your mind plays that "must have a cig" trick, tell it to shut up, pick up your vaping stuff and vape until that thought flees. If you really are desperate to stop to you have act like it and STOP--vape instead.
Lots of great advice in this thread, but this one really hit me.

In other words, "Grit your teeth and lean into it, man! You'll beat it. And in the meantime, we've got your back." ;)

I had top of the line at that time Eco-C 1100 upgrades. 24mg juice. I smoked 2 or 3 for a month or two then I had trouble with one a day. Did that for 3 months and bought a MVP. Realized I went three days without that single smoke so I just quit. I never intended to quit after 42 years of smoking. I just wanted to use it to cut back from 40 a day to maybe 10 a day. Good luck to you. For everyone you don't smoke is one better than you were doing before vaping.

I was rolling my own before vaping. I understand the panic of not having cigs in the house. Once I started vaping I put all my rolling stuff in a box and sealed it with tape. Threw away any pre-rolled cigs I had. I know I can open the box a roll a cig but I haven't for 45 days. I was a two pack a day smoker for 37 years.

I am a chain vaper. I vape all the time, as much as I want. The few times I've wanted a cig I've vaped through it.

My son, on the other hand, still has a few cigs a day. He stress smokes at work a few times a day. He says vaping through the stress doesn't work for him, but he went from a pack to 2-3 cigs a day.

The thing that really made him cut down the most was when I bought him a Kanger Aerotank. He was using the iClear30 that came with his MVP and he likes the Aerotank a lot better. You may have to experiment with equipment and juice to find the vape that works for you.

This place is also great for support. Stick around!

two major things that i believe helped me quit;

1) i wasn't really trying to quit this time. just wanted something i can do in the house while i had to deal with the kiddos. which led to;
2) no pressure. i even had a 5 pound bale of tobacco and 10 or 15 cartons of empty tubes laying around. i didn't care if i quit or not.

when i was a smoker, the thought of running out of smokes soon would always increase my intake because as i got closer to that last smoke in the pack, i was stressed more about it. taking that pressure off by having more than enough tobacco around and not caring whether i quit or not really let me let loose. took the edge off when it comes to stress.

so, i guess what i'm saying is that although i believe you may need better gear and/or higher nic, don't sweat it. take it step by step. stressing yourself isn't going to get you anywhere any faster... it's more than likely taking you in steps backwards in terms of your success.

relax.

I had to have the confidence in the ejuice to satisfy my urges, so I got a step higher (36mg) than I thought I would need. Whenever I had the urge, I took 2-4 draws. Quickly, I was conditioned to accept the PV as my cigarette. then it was just stepping down. I am in no hurry. I enjoy it.

The biggest thing, for me, is to cover the physical urges.

I carried it around with me, to cover the mental urges.

I did get back-ups. A complete system, broken down, went to the car. (a cheapie eGo) and I got replacement parts. I actually got another APV because I wanted to make myself confident.

No excuses for me.

All good advice from the ECF clan, way to go guys and gals.

I agree that your nic is too low and your knee jerk reaction is to want to spoke. 18 is just waaaaay too low for someone who smoked rollies IMO, you should be at 24, maybe even 36 for the hit you were used to and still crave. I also agree with sticking with bacco flavors for now. I use my favorite bacco juices first thing in the morning with coffee, after meals, when I get stressed, anytime I would instinctively reach for a smoke really. I like other flavors as well but I'd have a hard time staying off the cigs if I didn't have bacco juices I really liked.

Other think you may want to think about is a better topper, I just don't think you're going to get that "ah, now that's what I was hoping for" moment with what you're using now as it just isn't capable of doing the job. I suggest investing in an Aspire Nautilus if you can, if not even stepping to an Evod tank will be a much better vape.

Hang in there and keep coming here for support, you'll get through this!

I'm annoyed.

Here is the deal....

- I began with an e cig 18.mg Didn't stop me smoking. Hated it and put it in the bin.

- Currently using 650mAH Anyvape battery with a Vision Ego CE5. Enjoying it more than the through away. Produces a bit more vaper but not enough I don't think.

I have tried 18mg and also experimented with 6mg juice.

What I'm finding is that as soon as I have finished my vaping session I start craving analogues immediately. At the time my vaping session ends I feel like I've had enough but I then often light up an analogue within 5 mins. What's wrong with me?

I smoke around 20 rollups a day with slim filters.

Is the set up the problem, or is it the nicotine strength?

What would you do if you were in my situation?

I'm desperate to stop smoking analogues! It's upsetting me that I'm finding the switch really hard!

Any advice would be so greatly received!

I would keep a high strength tank (probably 24mg; just take 1 puff on occassion) on standby for anytime I felt that need to smoke a real cig. For normal times I'd keep the lower strength tank as my main vape. I did that for the first 6 months.

These days I buy 24mg 100%PG and add 3:1 glycerin to cut it down to 25/75 PG/VG at 6mg, and that's my main vape; if I felt like it I could keep some 24mg in a small tank on standby but quite frankly I haven't had a need for that for months.

I don't mix it exactly 3:1 and maybe on occassion I might mix a 10ml bottle closer to 50/50; I just eyeball it, not careful measure.

I had a carton of cigs in my drawer as usual for weeks when I first started vaping; it was a turning point for me to have the carton sitting there and not using it; it was how I knew I'd crossed the line; I gradually gave away a pack at a time to visiting friends/acquaintances.

That was almost a year ago.

i had that same problem when i first started... so i decided that just smoking LESS, was ok. And i kept smoking cigs every so often, if i needed to. At first i vaped mostly, and smoked maybe 8-9 cigs in a day (as opposed to 30! - so i considered that a successful beginning!) ;) I know myself, and for me, 'forcing' myself would not have worked. If i threw the cigs away i knew i'd only be running to the store in some 2:00 in the morning snit - which i KNEW i would have, lmao. So I didn't. As long as the thought of NO CIGS in the house  brought the panic, I kept a pack around and just went with the flow.... had my cig when i needed to.

The more i replaced more cigs each day with vaping instead, the panic got less and less, over time. It took a little while, but I smoked less and less cigs each day, and then one day, when the box was close to empty, i didn't feel i needed to jump up and run to the store. Then later that night, i ran out - and shockingly, the panic feeling just wasn't there. For the first time it felt 'okay' to me that all I had in the house was my PV. I knew when i woke up the next morning i could easily run to the store while the coffee was brewing, if i REALLY needed to. So i went to bed with no cigs in the house, and let that be okay. And that was it. Next day i was still ok when i woke up, still no panic, vaped with my coffee instead of having a smoke. THAT was the real test, and it was fine, and that was the day i stopped.

I think once you get your nicotine level and flavor sorted, it will get easier for you. You can do it. Just be easy with yourself, go at your own pace; there's no rush and no rules... it's 'whatever works for you'. even if it's discouraging sometimes, you'll eventually figure out what works. and you'll get there, too.

All ya gotta do, is not give up. :toast: :vapor:

For the first time you have an alternative to smoking; just being able to cut down is itself a major victory; sieze that victory and BUILD on it.

As soon as you see yourself $saving$ on the smoking side, you'll see way to put more money into getting better hardware on the vaping side, and in a few weeks or months you should be able to make the transition.

I can't believe no has mentioned the fact that regular cigarettes (even hand rolled organics) contain dozens of other chemicals, many of which are MORE addictive than nicotine. This is why so many people feel such a strong urge to smoke even though they are getting plenty of nicotine. The best thing to do as someone else did mention, is to keep smoking but slowly decrease the quantity until you have fully quit.

I started at 36mg after smoking 20+ king size "cigar" loose tobacco analogs a day (also made my own). I vaped less than I smoked and now after a month after not smoking I am already dropping to 24mg...and I vape more. :vapor: Of course, I have found better flavors, improved my equipment and now started making my own coils. I do have some 12mg juices, I tend to chain vape them. ;)

Of course, everyone is different, but for me, as long as I wasn't feeling a "nic buzz" I felt that it was the right approach for me.

As a side note, I can no longer stand tobacco flavors for the time being. Not interested in trying any more either.

Even tho there are quite a few people out there who can start vaping and quit ciggies instantly, you may be one of the other group that needs to swap over to vaping over a longer period of time. You may want to consider going to 24-36 nic levels to start with. From what Ive read about vaping, the nic absorbtion is slower and not as effective as smoking so a higher nic level will be more in line with what ciggies would supply as far as nic delivery.
Also, dont view vaping as a direct replacement for smoking, it is an alternative method of nicotine supply. There are more things in ciggies that the body craves than just nic.
If you have that intense desire to have a ciggie, than do so, dont frustrate yourself and create that spiral of doom which drives you even further into the desire to smoke. Have 1/2 a ciggie, put it out, save the rest for later. Try for 3 out of 4 times to vape instead of smoking. Eventually you will find yourself vaping more than smoking. The goal is to not quit today, but to reduce the smoking untill you quit.... even if it takes a few months...
