Although I haven't touched a real cigarette in almost 10 months, I had a most unsettling dream/nightmare about one.

In my dream, I was smoking an analog and thoroughly enjoying it. It was very vivid and very satisfying. When I awoke I was mortified.

Do you believe dreams have significance? If so, what do you suppose this dream meant? What is my subconscious mind trying to tell me?

Should I go out and buy a pack of cigarettes and start smoking again, perhaps on occasion?

Is this a manifestation of the "Unsatisfied Vaper Syndrome"?

I have no desire for a regular cig, so I am confused and somewhat worried.

Thanks.

It might be the cigarette making a final jab at trying to get you back. I would definitely NOT smoke a cigarette and give it that satisfaction. I've seen others talk about these dreams. What they mean? Anything can be spun to fit anything.

I've not dreamed of smoking. I've been smoke free for 1 1/2 years.

Hang tuff. This too shall pass.

OK, I'm getting a bit away from vaping here...

Dreams are all about emotions but, more than that, they are about states of mind, feelings, impressions and so forth. The one thing they are not about is language; dreams come from the pre-logical parts of the mind. The things that the dream-psychologists mysteriously call "symbols" are very simple and easy to interpret, if you can get in touch with your inner-child, or inner-mammal, or whatever.

Every object and event in a dream stands for the emotion, feeling, state-of-mind, what-have-you, that it evokes. Nothing more, nothing less. It hardly ever stands for itself, because that would be a logical interpretation. And although many people make a lot of money selling dream dictionaries, the meaning of any particular symbol is ultimately individual to you. People tend to be similar in a lot of ways, so dream dictionaries are not a total waste of time, but with something as uniquely individual as this particular dream I doubt they would be useful. You know what a cigarette generally stands for anyway, right? You don't even need to look it up. Yes, that's right. It does. (Doesn't everything? At least everything that shape?)

Your animal brain has picked this particular event as the one which most closely matches the emotion, state-of-mind, etc, that it is trying to express. So you have to ask yourself, what does that satisfying cigarette stand for? It sounds like it would be satisfaction, contentment. Might it be a reward you used to give yourself when something worked out well or you had worked hard? Did you get that sort of satisfaction when you had been denied cigarettes for a while, in which case it could mean the end of a famine of some sort?

I believe it is the evil head of the cigarette monster trying one last time to get you back. Many people get these dreams after quitting. It was so vivid that it may make you want a cigarette because you can taste it feel it and want it. This is just a HUGE craving and it will pass. You need to beat this and have smooth sailing after that. You will be glad you did. Try to get your mind of it. You will be glad you did.

I have had zero dreams about cigs, but lots of vaping dreams--buying vaping stuff, trying to guide friends to vaping stuff (these friends do not even smoke in "real life"), etc. This morning I was dreaming that I was looking at all these new batteries when my son (dressed in a suit and tie) popped right into my dream and when I asked him (in the dream) what he was doing there, he said he wanted to see what I was up to.

I have always loved dreams--sort of my form of entertainment while asleep--and usually remember at least some of them when I wake up. But I don't give much though to the symbolism of them. I know it is just my brain working things out in there while I am sound asleep.

I had a similar experience--- many times. It is your mind remembering the first smoke. I had been an active member of AA for over twenty years. I repeatedly dreamed of having one sip of an alcoholic beverage, and being dismayed that I had broken 20+ years of continuous sobriety. I quit going to meetings for six months, and finally, harassed by those dreams, intentionally broke my sobriety. I discovered that I had no desire to continue drinking. I occasionally have a 3.2 beer, and I am fine with that.

I would suggest that you light up a cigarette, and take a few puffs. Odds are that you will discover that it is disgusting, foul, and nauseating. Problem done, no more dreams about smoking.

I know it is just my brain working things out in there while I am sound asleep.

I have had dreams where I am smoking and then in the dream I remember that I quit and get upset that I won't be able to say I never smoked again after getting a vaporizer. I am wondering if it is that smokers always smoke in dreams and don't remember it, but now that we have quit, when we smoke in a dream, our minds cut in and say "Wait, you don't do that anymore" which makes us remember.

Ive had a few.. But in my dreams I get disappointed at myself & wake up sorta bummed then realize I dn really smoke..

Fwiw at almost exactly one month cigg free I took one pull off.a cigg of my former fav brand. DISGUSTING! I couldnt get that awful taste out of my mouth fast enough. The dreams stopped then oddly enough.

I've had AA friends tell me they panicked when they first got "drinking dreams" .
My dreams were of one drink, they were not drunk dreams. However, too much AA is not a good thing. I am grateful, but it prevented me from exploring a wider range of my problems.
