Got to stop building when tired! Test burned the coil before I cut the wire that was sticking out on the other side of the posts. Built a dual coil setup, and each coil was supposed to be 1.7 there about. Installed the first coil, and it read 0.4 Ohm, but didn't give it thought... One of the wire ends touched the tank metal at the bottom outer edge, and when I fired up my Ohm meter the wire snapped, and fell of behind the post. The coil wasn't damaged, and the battery wasn't hot.

I might be paranoid, but should I discard the battery?

Probably not. Your dangling wire end served as a fuse and protected the battery from an extended dead short (and the damaging heat that follows).

I've done the same thing once or twice while doing the tweezer thing after a dry burn. The left hand has to leave the fire switch before engaging tweezers!
