Battery life aside....we should be helping them use what they have rather than sending them off to get something else they will have trouble with too because the basic understanding isn't there yet....
I agree, but it's really hard to do because you need to ask them a few questions. And by the time they come back and see the questions, they've already read about 15 posts telling them what to buy next. And if they bother posting their answers to those questions, by the time you get back to respond based on those answers, you're already reading a post about how they just bought an Ego.

I always welcome people and let them know that no question is dumb so please ask if they can't find their answer. As far as recommendations, I try to remember that not everyone can afford one of my favorite PV's but suggest that they at least look at it and compare it to the one's that get listed. I know one woman bought it and hasn't looked back. She and I still talk via PMs and always thanks me for the advice.

One thing I hate is when people recommend a proprietary battery for low resistance vaping. I always jump in on these. Please don't recommend an ego or riva for people wanting to use LR atomizers/cartomizers.

Yes! And battery life is super-important to people who are on the go for 12-14 hours a day, but cubicle-dwellers and shut-ins who will be puffing in place need to be reminded to be sure and get the right kind of wall rodent (because some vendors don't make it clear that some of them are intended for charging batteries only!)

Harvesting......Sounds like "Soylent Green" again. It comes up every once in a while....... lol.

I think most on ECF are very helpful. There's a whole "snails" group dedicated to finding slow-response posts, for example.

That's the first thing that came to my mind.

Me, I try to keep it general which probably drives some newbies a little crazy.

Yes, I believe you do. Those events are seasonal. However; if you resided down here in exciting North Georgia, you could go to a goat roping, cow tipping, steel cage and chain wrasslin' match, or just a regular drunken bar fight most any night of the week!

 Thanks, I think I'll hold out for cooler weather. Maybe I'll get baked in a pie and win you a blue ribbon at the County Fair!

I've seen this many times. If they bought a piece of crap, it's pretty hard to tell them how to improve it because you can't. Do you really want to tell them that and make them feel bad? No, so that just leaves pointing them to something better.

I used LR on my ego. What's bad about it?

I blame MadVapes for helping to spread the rumor about dead battery units using LR atomizers on the eGos and other similar devices. It's plastered all over their product pages and it's not correct. For the ciggie size devices, the LR atties will overload the small cells used in them. The bigger cells in units like the eGo can handle it, but may have issues with the electronic switch. That's a big "may" and many people have reported no issues.

I've been running a CCV 1.5Ω DCC for about three weeks on my eGo batts. No negative issues at all thus far. In fact it's one of my favs.

And as far as LRs, that's what I ordered with my original Mega kit. Yet to lose one... and I vape like my avatar! Oh, check my sig too...

Noob's need good solid info, and to also know that if they smoke analogs, spending $85 on a SB and a few more bucks on batteries, charger and ejuice is a much better value than blowing $60 on an ego kit that they may or may not like in 6 weeks. Never fails to make me laugh when I see a fool say I only wanna spend $10 then go out and buy a carton of analogs for $60.

It took me since April 1st when I started vaping. But have gone from a 510 to ego-t and now my sweet spot is ego-t batteries with an echo-e cartomizer. I can kill a tank atty in about 2 days. So when I got the echo-e carto my life has become so much better. I can just about take those buggers apart and clean them and put back together in my sleep! Living in West Texas in a heat wave can take its toll on an ecig. Have only had one leak, must have had something to do with the temp being 113 that day!! It was a very small leak too. Tanks would leak out almost all the juice in this heat! So I guess there is help for noobies. I found my way with lots of help from ECF!! And send us some rain please!! We have only had a 16th of an inch since last September! Ya'll keep vaping!!

I use a LR atty on my RiVa (ego). In fact, it came with one in the starter kit. What's the problem with that?

I'm still a newbie, and I really appreciate all you harvester snails! Every post I've made here got immediate multiple responses, and it was a great help. Still is, in fact, as I'm nowhere near an expert yet. There was only one time that a responder said something sarcastic and patronizing. And that person got jumped on by the others! LOL Everyone else, without exception, acted as though they'd never been asked that question before and had absolutely nothing better to do than patiently try to understand my difficulty and help me through it.

What I particularly appreciate is the patience you guys show with questions that have been asked over and over again. I did a lot of surfing through the board before I started posting questions. But many times, I found conflicting answers that confused me. Different people would give opposing opinions. Or someone would post that they'd found the 'best' way to do something, only to post a month or 2 later that their earlier method was no good after all. Or I'd find terminology that confused me. For example, I just figured out there's a difference between dripping and topping off. Geez, you use a drip tip for both, so who knew? LOL Other times, I'd find answers from 2009 or something that I wasn't sure were still true. For example, I've read that you have to use a pin or needle or something to break a film seal before you can fill something. I can't remember whether the post was about a carto or something else, but I know that I've never had to do that. So all I can assume is it's something you used to have to do way back when. My point is that sometimes posting a question that's been asked and answered before is the only way to be sure you understand the answer.

As for the newbies always insisting they want an analog look-alike for $10, I don't think that's necessarily true. Yes ... my first post started out with the 'look-alike' request, but after reading responses from a bunch of you good folks, I ended up going with a RiVa (ego), which I think was a much better choice for me. As far as the cost ... no, I didn't want to spend $300 on my first starter kit, not knowing if it was going to be a good fit, but since I had a $40 a week analog habit, it didn't really bother me to start off with a $90 price tag. (Of course, I'm up to nearly $300 by now since I quickly decided I wanted a 2nd kit as a back-up and I wanted to try gajillions of different juices.)

Sorry for all the rambling, but I thought some of you might like to hear the newbie point of view on all this. Plus, I want to ask y'all (yes, I'm a southern gal) to keep on keepin' on. You do good work.

Talking about sweet spots in this thread, I'm a very heavy vaper and it's been the root of all my issues since day 1.

I have two styles of vaping I use. One is the more typical style of taking single hits that I use when out and about, but when at home, I like to puff away like when smoking a tobacco pipe or cigar, especially when doing things like reading on the computer or watching TV. Boy, does that drain batteries fast. I ended up going with a home-brew VV mod with huge battery life so I could enjoy that style of vaping. I literally use 250mA an hour and can drain a 900mAh eGo in less than 4 hours.

The other problem I had was cartomizers and atomizers getting overheated and/or failing to wick fast enough. The only cartomizer I've come across that can really handle my vaping is the Boge 510. I've been using them from early on. I had to kiss a lot of frogs in the beginning before I found them. I've tried other systems since, but always come back to the Boges. As long as you don't let them dry out, they're totally bulletproof.

The next problem I had was going through juice too fast. There's no way I'm willing to pay what it costs to buy juices over the counter as fast as I go through the stuff. I've been mixing my own for quite a while now. Using good inexpensive sources for quality ingredients, I've been able to cut my cost on juice significantly. Xtreme Vaping has been my savior in that department.

In any case, there's a huge resource here in this forum so I really don't see how anyone would not be able to find their sweet spot, especially with all the help people here are willing to offer. On the negative, there is so much information here that it can easily become overwhelming, as stated above. Like any infomation you find on the internet, I think you have to take things with a grain of salt.
