I blame MadVapes for helping to spread the rumor about dead battery units using LR atomizers on the eGos and other similar devices. It's plastered all over their product pages and it's not correct. For the ciggie size devices, the LR atties will overload the small cells used in them. The bigger cells in units like the eGo can handle it, but may have issues with the electronic switch. That's a big "may" and many people have reported no issues.

Yeah........ There's more going on here tho. We've had ECF users, historically, that have reported dead units and higher failure rates. Kind of a trend. Also, the vendor had a lot of warranty returns of actual units... not just theory. That vendor knows what they ordered for ohms too (assuming same company).

Suppose it could have been a bad batch... but IDK. The warning was always due to "MOSFET" frying (PCB Failure), not battery failure.

OTOH... I'd consider LR on a 510... but not heavy vaping with it. It can't supply the amps, so the electronics are safe. It stresses the battery.. but hey... $10.00 battery. Just don't vent it (probably a risk ... so not recommended). Turns a crappy charge duration into real-crappy charge duration tho.

And I wonder if newer models allow for the 1.5 ohm stuff (like they made a revision?). Anyway... you would know better than I how 1.5 ohms could stress the PCB with chain-vaping. But when real-world results and warranty returns are prompting the concerns, theory is secondary.... results count. I think it depends on vaping style. Maybe model revisions too.

So I don't think it's a "blame" thing... just a caution. If 2.0 ohm works well enough, why not use that? If it doesn't.... get a 3.7 volt unit ... and you're back to 2.0 ohm again. lol.

Anyway... bottom line is maybe there's been a design change and it's moot now. No way to tell unless you have a stack of old units.

And for every 3 or 4 "Yes I use LR" people...you'll find the occasional user that says "yup... fried my eGo... 1 or 2 months in". So IDK. The LR people don't often specify if it's 1.5 ohms either.

Good points, but MadVapes was making a big deal out of it with several lines in bold print on every LR atty/carto page. However, I just looked and they've changed the warning to a one liner in regular red print that says "not recommended". I guess they chilled out on that. In any case, it's only the really low resistance stuff that would be a concern. After all, standard resistance atomizers made by Joye Tech are ~2.2Ω. They're already low when 3Ω is considered standard.

I had the MOSFET fail on one of my eGo batts just using a 3Ω cartomizer. So who knows?. If they're getting a lot of returns, it might just be devices doomed to fail anyway. I haven't seen any polls, but I've so often read people saying no problems, I tend believe there are no problems. You also have to consider that Joye makes an LR atomizer for their eGo devices that's ~1.8Ω. You'd think the maker would not produce an atomizer that could fry their batteries.

As one of those "newbies" that were "harvested" by many wonderful and helpful people here at ECF . . .

Just my 2 Cents, on this conversation . . .

Let’s face reality here – WE ARE changing “One Habit” for Another – “Smoking” cigarettes to “Vaping” an “eCig” (and/or whatever your specific method of inhaling “eJuice” is) . . . and for many different reasons, whether it be cost, anxiety, or even making the "wrong' decision and being "STUPID."

I guess I might be a little different from all of the more experienced and those who were able to make the transition into vaping without a second thought or difficulty . . . Knowing myself as I do, I know that I happen to need a simple to use and less obtrusive "eCig" to begin with to make this transition from smoking cigarette's . . . Just the way I did when I started the smoking habit . . . And after reading a number of post it seems there are many "newbies" (like myself) who need this type of crutch, especially before we move on to "BIGGER" - "Better" - more "Vap" Mods . . . "It called the learning curve" for a reason - isn't it?

And one of the facts that I have learned from reading other's post, is that many people who are looking to quit smoking are really looking for the simplest of answers to a very complicated question, but they need somewhere to start . . .

So maybe, just maybe, for some of us (like me) a simple less powerful "eCig" is - Okay - too . . . Just a thought.

And BTW, as a side note - I have learned a lot from all of you, so even though I am starting out with a cigarette look-a-like with pre-filled "carts" as close to my brand of cigerrete's (& Menthol Taste) as I can get and haven't even started "vaping" yet (my "G6" is suppose to arrive this week - YEA! ! ! ! ), because I got the answers I needed at the time, I have also started looking at some of the other options for "vaping" and "Flavors" out there for me too . . . So - THANK YOU ! ! !

I've been here for 4 months, and have posted a fairly large amount. But i'm very slow when it comes to buying new equipment. For instance, I just got my first lr attys for my ego last week. I've been trawlng the newbie forum for my newbie type questions since I can't create a post there anymore, and to be honest, i'm almost embarrassed to ask about it since lr is not really that much of an advancement. Most people at this as long as me are into de-wicking, box mods, trustfire batteries, etc... I spent my time/money on juice since my ego is a basic, functional unit. I haven't even jacked with cartos yet. I'm still using carts and blue foam. It seems like my gear is "old-school" these days, even for the newbies. But slowly, i'm figuring out what's next. About the time the next big thing comes along, i'll probably get around to buying the last big thing-my first reo or something. In my opinion, that's one of the best and worst things about this forum. It's all there, all different levels of usage. You can learn about anything. But at the same time, you get flooded with info about things you're not ready for too. It takes patience and a good bit of self-restraint to keep from spending yourself into the poorhouse.

I'm right there with you, got an iPod mini second hand with a dead battery for $15.00. Swapped out the battery and upgraded the 4GB microdrive to a 32GB CF card, then sold the microdrive for $7.00. All told it cost about $44.00 for this 32GB mini, which works just great.

I'm sure an iPhone or Andoid device would have done just as well, but they can't beat the 'value punch'. :)

Same applies to vaping hardware. I jumped from an 808 starter to a Riva at the 3 month mark, and for the time being see no reason to change up the hardware. Started with cartos, so have those as well as some boge attys/carts. Only other "extra" I've purchased are a few drip tips, mainly for mouth comfort.

Everything else is getting plowed into juice and DIY. The 'maintenance' costs aside from replacing a bunk battery is really low, like $20-30/month tops.

For the n00bs I ALWAYS mention the "deals and steals' thread, gives them an idea of what they can get on the cheap (for instance, one vendor now is running a special on 5ml samples for 39 cents each with some small restrictions until July 4th)!

I was stuck for 2 weeks with only 24mg/36mg cola juice, only thing I could pick up cheap. I'd be happy if nobody else was ever caught like that! :)

I've seen this many times. If they bought a piece of crap, it's pretty hard to tell them how to improve it because you can't. Do you really want to tell them that and make them feel bad? No, so that just leaves pointing them to something better.

I am one of those who hit the newbie section with a KR808 in tow. I have to say that I DO like the opinions that everybody gives, especially if they add pros/cons for their choice. My 808 works fine for what it is, but I didn't know at first that my needs required something more out of the hardware. I did as the majority, bought something that was familiar (ciggy) and then realized all of the disadvantages while partially becoming despondent that I bought some crap POS. Once somebody told me that 280mAh batts just aren't big enough for me no other convincing was really necessary. That kind of determination is sometimes tough to guage with a new person.

I would have vaped a device that looked like a dirty stock if it actually worked, fortunately it hasn't come to that! :)

The 808 model (just like the 801,901,510,401, etc) all have their place and work well if you stay within the recommended use guidelines (no 5hr constant vaping sessions with one of these).

The exact same flow that was mentioned earlier is how it went for me. Basically got me to check out a Riva and have been fine ever since.

To me it is finding the hardware that works for you, sets your 'baseline' and becomes your go-to set, even if it is not your first or preferred choice. An 808 would only have worked if I had a crazy number of batteries with me at all times (not to mention the charging).
