It all depends on where you go. I've been going to hookah lounges for years, and they're all different. Different prices, tobaccos, whether or not they sell vapes, the quality of the packing..

If you do go, a good price is around $15 per bowl, and I would stay about 1-2 hours. Probably should bring friends too so you're not lonely!

I admit that when I did frequent hookah lounges, I was polite, but a bit of a snob. I learned from my brother how to pack a bowl to make the flavor and tobacco last for at least 4 hours, so lounges were a last resort thing haha

Look for a place that offers Shiazo rocks. As far as I know, that's the only tobacco-free alternative. I have never used them or ordered them before, so I can't really tell you how they taste or feel. They seemed pretty popular at a lounge I used to go to, so some people must've liked them a lot!

Totally didn't answer some of your questions though  haha all the lounges I've been to have been like nightclubs: dark with a few colorful lights flashing every so often, and most places play loud hip hop and stuff. There will probably be rows of couches that will definitely suck you in and be comfortable so you don't leave :p

I am 60 years old and had never been to a hookah bar. My college age children socialize at hookah bars much like my generation socialized in a drinking establishment at that age. My son, daughter, and her BF treated me to my first hookah bar on Fathers Day. The bar had an outside patio with tables and chairs like a restaurant. It was a nice summer evening and a very pleasant experience.

I don't know what the hookah flavor was and my kids didn't remember what they had ordered. The cost was $10 per group. The device had something like a large jar of water that the smoke was filtered in before it was delivered via a long plastic hose which was passed around the table. Everyone had their own sanitary tip, much like the vape shops use at their flavor sample bars.

The place was well populated by small and larger groups of customers. As this was in a University area, it was a younger crowd. The hookah reminded me a lot of what I experience with my personal vaporizors. Smooth, cool, flavored smoke/vapor. From what I understand, the flavored tobacco is soaked in vegetable glycerin and vaporizes into a vapor/smoke from the heat of a burning coal, then is filtered through the water bottle.
