I spent some time on the Amalfi Coast during the Hoof and Mouth outbreak. Never hit Italy, but beef became scarce. Apparently horses are immune and make for delicious bolognese. I held out as long as I could, but after 3 days I needed beef. McD's was still selling burgers- which came from the US, but I eventually broke down and went to a cavallo ristorante. Went back the next day...

I know but all the talk of eating cats, dogs, horse, dingo made me thing about some of the interesting things I have eaten and snapping turtle jumped out at me. Not that I wouldn't eat those things/probably have and just didn't know it.

I hear you can order rat in some restaurants in China. I don't think I'd try that or cats and dogs. Horse meat, probably.

I have had a lot of KY hilljack food as a kid (in some part of KY they tell you they aren't hillbillies because they just don't like billie). That would include turtle, pickled pigs feet and goetta. I didn't like any of it so I haven't had it since. I've also had chocolate covered ants, not bad. I'm not real adventurous about meat.
