Has anyone ever used Central Vapors for batteries?

Based on the number of other items they sell that are clones (some they identify as clones, others they don't)...I personally definitely wouldn't buy batteries from them. No telling what they actually might be, IMO. ;)

Actually, they're not. Out of all the Samsung batteries they normally carry, they only have 2 types in stock, and not the 30Q, which is one of the most popular. The same is true with Sony batteries. They have a lot of rewraps, but I'm like Rossum, I'm not going to buy those.

Has anyone ever used Central Vapors for batteries?
I just got four LG HG2s from Central Vapors, but I couldn't really tell you if they are fake or not.
I can say that they appear as they should and seem to perform the same as others I have. But I don't have a charger that shows any info and I'm not knowledgeable enough to figure it out or test them in any way.

What @JCinFLA said above there is valid. The ones I bought have only been through a couple recharges, and I don't really know if I would be able to identify fakes.

I got an Asmodus D500 charger/tester that measures capacity. Nothing like the level of testing @Mooch does though. I use it to decide when batteries have lost enough capacity that it's time to recycle them. I guess it might provide enough info to tell if they were fakes if the capacity was well below what it should be. Basically I rely on the approved vendors to do that for me.

I agree about CV. I got coils from them that turned out to be fakes. I know it wasn't a one off mistake, it's part of the way they do business. They might not knowingly sell fake batteries but I doubt if they would bother doing the verification testing themselves.

Unless fake batteries are really bad the consequence might just be that they don't last as long as the real thing. Unless you are using them at close to the limit of what the real thing should provide.

Yep! They sell quite a few things that are clones (ie. some mods, coils, clearomizers, Evod kits, etc.). I've bought several things from them that they didn't SAY were clones, even in the description's fine print, on their website. When I got them they definitely were. I contacted them about them, and after much back and forth discussion...I returned the items, and got refunds on all of them. They still only added the clone info on their website about some of the items, but didn't for all of them. ;)

Sorry, I haven't, but not because they are not to be trusted. I just always use Mooch's list of recommended vendors. Always have and now it's become a habit.

Same here, Katya. But I was shocked to see that they have LG HG2s for sale on their site. As far as I know, you can no longer get those anywhere. That's why I was wondering if they were a legitimate supplier. I didn't end up buying them because I'm not sure I can trust them.

Thanks, JC. That tells me everything I need to know. If they sell clones without telling their customers, then they are probably okay with selling rewrapped batteries and calling them originals. I don't really need batteries right now for what I have. But I just saw some RX200s on closeout at a ridiculously low price. If I buy them, then I need a couple sets of 3 married batteries. I could get the overpriced Sony VTC6s and have them now, but they are double the price of 30Qs, so I really hate to do that. 6 batteries would cost me $60 instead of around $30.

Sign up for back in stock notifications at all the retailers, if they have that function. Illumn does. Didn't check the others. Not in the market for batts right now personally. This gives you better chance at actually getting some batts before they get sold out again.

I have only purchased batteries from the Mooch approved stores. He lists those in his blog. Quite simply you cannot trust any other source. Doing so is risky as Mooch recently stated.

I checked IMR and the 18650 battery store the other day. At that time they had Molicel (Mooch rates the P26A as best performing 18650), Sony/Murata and Samsung in-stock.

IMR also had Mooch recommended 20700's and 21700's.

Might want to check if maybe some mods you have will accommodate a button top battery because the button tops seem to be much easier to find. I don't have any 18650 button tops but i have a feeling a good many of my mods would actually accommodate the button top judging from the long travel of the positive battery spring-loaded pin. But I could be wrong.

On a mod like a pico mod where the battery cap is on the top of the mod, it wouldn't be a big deal if the battery cap would have to be threaded only half way since it wouldn't interfere with the stability of the mod when setting it down upright.

None of the Mooch recommended battery stores list the LG HG2's. They haven't for quite some time (a couple years).

Last time I bought some was 2019-09-13 from the 18650 Battery Store. I'm still using those and have a couple in storage at 3.6v (recommended storage voltage).

I've been trying for months to find one vendor that carries both the charger and the batteries I want. Not going to happen any time soon, I'm afraid.

Not to mention the Battery Junction debacle... Test Results: Fake Samsung 25R’s, Samsung 30Q’s, and LG HG2’s!
Did you try IMR? They usually carry a decent selection of chargers. My current favorite charger is the Miboxer C4-12 version 2 charger. It charges all the batteries I use (18650, 26650, 20700 and 21700). Bought mine on 2019-08-06 from Aliexpress.

IIRC Amazon carries MiBoxer chargers but you need to be very mindful of which one (model/version) because some of their chargers look very similar. I have also had very good luck with my Nitecore chargers. I seem to collect chargers. :D

True, but we have no way of knowing if the fake cells we are using have had any safety testing, whether their failure rates are higher, and other bad stuff. Any fake cell can be one of those really bad ones and can fail at any power level. There are multiple ways for a cell to fail without being discharged too hard.

It’s why it’s important to only buy known model cells from known, trusted vendors. All of us would want to find a way to use any fake cells we got stuck with but we should understand that we’re taking additional risks when doing so.

I read Mooch's review. :) But I want a 2-bay charger, and since I prefer .5-1A charging, I figured that Xtar ST2 would be more my speed, so to speak.

My Nitecore died suddenly and without a warning. It was a decent charger, but getting batteries in and out was usually a bit of a struggle.

For a 0.5 ~ 1.0 Amp Charger, the XTAR VC4 is a Very Nice Charger.

    http://www.xtar.cc/product/XTAR-VC4-Charger-20.html

It also charges AA and AAA Batteries (and any other Letters you might have). Something it's 2-Bay Sibling Doesn't.

... the low availability right now of a lot of popular 18650 batteries? I've just been to 5 of the recommended battery retailers and all of them are completely out of most Samsung batteries, particularly the 30Qs. There is also very low availability of many other commonly used batteries. Anyone know what is going on?

yes I have noticed but I’ve also noticed that on and off for the past 4 years. Could be backed up manufacturing still trying to catch up from Covid back log and a shortage of workers then the entire shipping delays that are happening in every shipping port due to the lack of container truck drivers.

Everything worldwide effects ALL of us.

I bought some Molicel P26A's and some Samsung 40T's back in January/February and still haven't used them. The batteries I've been using seem to be doing fine. Maybe I'm like the Frog in the slowly warming pot of water that I haven't noticed that they need to be charged more often. But then again, with 11 rigs in circulation, it's impossible to keep track. And to make it worse, a set that comes out of a mod goes into the charger and then goes into the next mod. I would need to number all the batteries and put it in a spreadsheet. Don't have time for that.
