Plume Room Banana Pudding - a good tasting eliquid, but it's a tank cracker:

I now use quartz tanks with my KFLs.

The State of Confusion
Go to any drug store and buy some litmus test strips.

Put a drop of E-Liquid on the strip and measure the pH.

if it is lower than 7 it is considered acidic and should not be used with any plastics, or silicone.

Silicone meaning what some tank seals are made of, as with the Kanger AeroTank Mega.

Thanks for all the comments and links everyone has posted. I did a little research and ordered a couple of the pyrex mini protank 2. They look pretty and now I don't have to worry.

I'm a little disappointed with the local vapeshop, because they really didn't inform me of the polycarbonate melting/cracking, etc.
I realize this isn't a new topic for a lot of you pros, but was wondering how common this actually happens. Judging from the responses to my post, it happens a lot more than I initially thought... Which was that maybe it was a fluke of nature type of thing. But I guess it's pretty common.
Whew, glad I got my glass tanks :)

I am not going to try to sound like a genius as I have no idea what actually causes it but I have had one tank crack in half from a strawberry banana liquid and two others begin cracking/ etching with mint liquids in them. From what I have seen and read any type of mint or citrus will crack tanks. However someone mentioned licorice flavors being a problem but I have had a black licorice menthol flavor in a plastic tank for about a week now and no issues.

It seems like there's different information from various sources. But it sounds like some of the flavors have a component in them that reacts badly with polycarbonate

If I was to guess. it's probably the citric acid & similar found in many things. Not sure about cinnamon though.

I actually was wondering this myself, if it even really happened all that often. Then i had 3 crack on me last week. So the answer is yes it does happen. For me it was really citrus-y juices like sour apple, orange and cinnamon flavors. I've heard black licorice is the worst, but that stuff tastes like vomit and i won't have it anywhere near me or my equipment lol

I've never had one crack before but my dad has i believe he was smoking either fire and ice (cinnamon and menthol) or a tobacco flavor but mine hasn't crack and i use a citrus tasting liquid

Nothing but glass or pyrex for me I stay away from all plastics I dont like a metal tank cos you cant see how much juice is there

wondering why one needs to see the juice in it, vape will tell ya when it's running low, plus have a pretty good handle on how much juice I vape a day. One of my rituals before going to work, is to fill up 3 tanks and throw in fresh batts on the three mods that I take with. Generally have to top off 2 tanks after returning home.

Why do the tanks crack to begin with? Is it the density of the liquid transferring heat to the walls of the tank?

Shouldn't it be of concern that the ingredients can warp plastic?

It's called a chemical reaction, acidic juices have a caustic reaction to plastic. Ph can be a pretty impressive force given the right environment. It's like saying, why does it hurt when I squirt lemon juice on an open sore???? Well, if you can answer that, you can figure out how it could crack plastic. Just saying. not that hard to understand.

Vape long and Prosper.!!!
