One thing I have realized during this strike is Canada Post’s service isn’t that bad.

First there is the price. Compared to the couriers their service is priced as a steal. Canada post is about ½ the price with quicker service to major locations. As for rural locations that so many of you live in, forget the couriers, they are not interested. The surcharges and the length of time for delivery are absurd. A $19 Canada Post shipment to a very remote location is better than $40 and double the time from the cheapest of them.

Then we all bash Canada Post for their poor customer service. Well we had to cut our courier COD service because it turned out they were giving away our orders for free! Their correct COD form filled out, with a big COD on the front of the package, as filled out by their own agent, but still they handed our goods out for just a signature.

Today I had a shipment come in by a courier. They will not deliver to our box, so we had it shipped to our warehouse. Coming during the day, with the location staffed at night, there was no one to accept the package. Fair enough, they even called to make alternative arrangements. My suggestion was to hold the package at their location for pickup, as I can’t guarantee any drop-off location will have someone there 9-5. Well it turns of they are holding the package in a city 100km away, rather than their location in the city that is 10km from us. Yup, another problem to solve we don’t need.

I look forward to Canada Post restoring service (after the workers get a fair deal of course). I hate to admit it, but they serve us well and I do miss them already.

I miss the excitement of vapemail. Getting up and looking at an empty mailbox is pretty depressing.

I hear ya on that. It'll be a real pleasure when we can send & receive vape-mail again; I'm eagerly waiting to do both. In the meantime....there's a juicy piece of vape-related mail waiting in your email inbox, Ian!

I hate that I'm only 15 mins down the rd from CP's Mississauga warehouse, and can't drive down and get my parcel lol... Was just conversing with Primo @ NFN and Monday is the day I believe CP will be ordered back to work.

Which I disagree with only because that means a forced settlement. I believe CP should be ordered back to rotating strikes and continue the deliberations.

Canada post is horrible, overpriced , slow as mail sent by pony express !! how is it that when I use the Us postal service packages can make it clear across America in 2-3 days top for regular parcel mail ?? and Canada post charges twice as much and takes twice as long and we put up with it because that is all we have , the other couriers are a joke also that is in part why I don't shop online much from Canadian E-tailers I can't stand to wait for something longer than I should or pay twice as much in shipping to do so . I simply place a order to my PO box in WA state and go down to get some cheap gas and pick up my goods.

Now get back to work Canada post !!! thanks for screwing me out of my present for my Father for Fathers day !!!

I actually received better service when they were on a rotating strike than when they were not on strike, mail during the rotating strike was delivered two hours earlier packages came through quicker. I even had a package in my mailbox when they apparently weren't supposed to be delivering the mail, makes me wonder what the hell they've been doing for the last five -ten years.....

Years ago, CP in their wisdom shut down our sorting station. Now all our mail is shipped to London to be presorted and the local stuff then has to be shipped back again and sorted again. Now our local(but well traveled) mail takes 4 to 5 days to be delivered. Actually a day longer then mail from London, Toronto etc.

Canada has 10% of the population of the USA. More people and more cities means more planes, trucks, and personnel. More also means you can get 'er done cheaper.. simple as that. Sorry about your dad's gift lol

Just to clarify everyone...the unionized postal workers are not on strike. There were a series of smaller, rolling strikes. But now, there is not a single postal worker in Canada on strike. Canadians want mail; and the unionized postal workers want to deliver it.

What's currently happening is the corporation is being insane, and is refusing to allow the workers to deliver any mail at all. This is a lockout, instituted by the corporation...this is not a strike by the unionized workers.

Just wanted to make that clear, as some people still seem to have the mistaken notion that the union is on strike, and if only Harper would force them back to work, this would be solved. That's not the case at all!

The government should sent this whole kit and caboodle to binding arbitration, and probably will on Monday...since it's clear that CP has zero interest in being mature or dealing with its unionized postal workers with even a shred of good faith. So no worries everyone. Soon we'll have mail again.

I wouldn’t call it insane… it’s a calculated business move. The endgame here is to get the government to legislate the workers back to work, which they wouldn’t do with rotating strikes. It’s definitely cheeky, but from a business perspective it was probably a smart move in order to minimize losses.

After 9 days of rotating strikes, CP has already lost the potential to make any profits this year. All it took was 9 days, and yet people are so quick to paint this image of them drowning in money and sucking their employees dry. There’s two sides to this, and neither one is “right.” That’s why they have negotiations… because a compromise is almost always the most appropriate solution.

Nobody should be taking sides on this matter. The CPC should have given it's current and future customers warning of such a lock-out, bottom line. That hasty decision truly shows the customers where they stand in all this, at the bottom.

The union, while still delivering mail during their rotating strikes was also calculated. They new ad-mail would be hurt and continued on their path. I will not defend either side here. And TBH, both sides could care less about the customers, or they would have handled these issues with some form of maturity.

In the future, I will no longer be putting my faith, time and money into CPC for deliveries. If our suppliers aren't offering other options (which they should all be considering at this point) then I'll be forced to buy liquids from sellers I can arrange pick-ups from.

I have now waited 2 weeks for something that was SUPPOSED to be delivered before this lock-out even occurred. And has been in Mississauga for three whole days before the lock-out AND two days before the GTA strike. And yet, here I am; still waiting...

So my issue stands with BOTH, the CPC and their Union.

    And just to clarify,

The Union IS on strike. Rotating or not, it's STILL a strike. Just because NOW they choose to wave signs saying "we want to deliver mail" doesn't make them any less liable for this issue. Neither side showed maturity in this situation and to be fair, both are acting like children. The Union is just trying to look as innocent as possible now. But let's be honest here, THE rotating STRIKES started first, then a lock-out.
