have i gone too far for a beginner?

Just ordered a maraxus clone and a fogger V4.
Is this too much to try to learn rebuilding on?
I do have a meter and know how to use it, and have been reading and watching everything I can find on rebuilding so I have tons of reference bookmarked.
Somehow I also seem to have inadvertently ordered a very cheap patriot rda clone also.

So have I gone too far or is this something that should work as long as I take it slow and give it the respect it demands?

I don't have knowledge of your specific mod and rb/das, but I can say, as long as you start with coil and wick builds that aren't too advanced ie. anything you see Riptrippers doing, you "should" be fine. The concepts of microcoils (without going sub-ohm) small diameter, touching coils and cotton wick (rather than mesh) make a lot of problems moot.

I hope you bought a lot of wire. I went through 50 feet in a few months, but it was worth it.

Feel free to post pics of your builds if you have any issues.

Wire should not be a problem, I ordered 2 100ft rolls.
I did not order cotton yet as I am still looking at what the differences are in wick materials, I do believe I will go with the cotton though.
Will definitely post some pictures to get feedback on what I may be doing right or wrong and if nothing else at least some of you guys that do know you are doing can get a good laugh!

Thanks for the reply!

I just received my first rebuildable which is a fogger v4. I will say it was a bit annoying since it is dual coil. However, I was attempting the nano dragon coil and actually got it to vape the way it's supposed to on the second try. Just be patient when trying to screw the posts down. Just remember not to use too much cotton for wicking. I found that I actually needed only half of what I thought I needed.

You may struggle, or you may not. There is some trial and error involved. Don't let it get you down. You may even find it easier than expected. Just play it safe and check your coils with a multimeter and/or use a regulated/protected mod.

One thing you may want to consider is getting a cheap dripper to learn the basics of coil building. (Edit: Missed the part about the Patriot) It's so much easier when you can simply remove the cap and see what's going on... or what went wrong, if that's the case. The less amount of work you have to do to get to your coils, the quicker and easier it is to experiment your way to success.

Hi. I am an old lady with no skill set in tinkering. I have my ohm meter and an MVP2 and Provari. I started building coils on an Igo-L and then got a Russian 91%. I needed the larger deck so I could see what I was doing. I use the Artistic Wire Gizmo coil winder and make real pretty and good 1.4ohm to 1.6ohm microcoils that I wick with organic cotton balls. With cotton, less is more.

If I can do this, with your background you will be fine in no time. Good luck and have fun!

It's funny, I had the idea to use something very similar as I occasionally do some bead and jewelry work, next thing I know, I see other people on here have thought of it as well! It should make very nice coils!

Just make sure you check your resistances, and Look for possibLe shorts.. and you're goLden..

Im stiLL stuck on the fogger v2.. if you ask me, the fogger v4 is going to give you a pretty good experience buiLding.. (apart from the fact that you get to jump into duaL coiLs, or pLug the channeLs and stay with singLes..)

you're aLL good. :)

coiLs are easy, wicking takes experience. XD

For my Protank coils I still use cotton...cheap and easy to work with...
BUT....I just got some ReadyxWick.....2mmm size...and have re-wicked all my RDAs with it...
Kinda pricy up front ($8/ft.)....but that 12" will last a LOOOONNNNG time!!:D
Just 1/2" per RDA....and, unlike cotton, it can be dry-burned along with the coil (good for > 2000*F)....
Also - unlike cotton - RW imparts no "flavor" of its own (ceramic tends to be "neutral"....)....
The Artistic coil jig is a handy thing to use...but not absolutely necessary for winding tight, neat coils....
The ohm meter/DMM, however, is MANDATORY for SAFE coil builds...ESPECIALLY if going sub-ohm!!
VAPE SAFE!!
Happy (vaping) Trails!

To OP, I am just starting off as well, I have Hammer and Nemesis mods along with a Kraken and an Origen on the way. I got all my other supplies, batteries, Kanthal, cotton, various gauge needles, and all the other stuff I can't recall. Much like you, I do have experience with electronics, and guess what, I jumped straight into DIY juices too, so you are not alone, and hopefully we can both enjoy our first experiences.

And remember, may the force be with you.

You'll be fine, the first rebuildable I bought was a fogger v2, it was a pita, I wouldn't recommend it, but here I am, I read a lot about the v4 and u think you'll have no trouble at all, remember your going to build w coils, exactly the same, that are each twice the Ohm as what you shoot for, if that didn't make sense, read up. Feel free to Pm me if you have any questions.

That can work, but the only safety mechanism is you. I learned on a 15 watt regulated before exploring mechs, then when I first started, used a kick 2. Check out the Micro Coil Build thread, tis an excellent method to quickly become competent at building.

Make very sure you use correct batteries, recommend both Sony VTC4 30 amp, and the Efest Purple 35 amp 18650 batteries. That way you can safely handle most ohm builds.

A fuse or kick/crown type module would be advisable, have added safety while learning the craft.
