Yup that's it. Those dirty ....... have to go. Found out I have a blood clot in my right leg and the Doc said smoking basically has to stop now so I got my work cut out. He didn't seem worried about the thought of vaping so that's good, we (my parents and I) told him and a nurse that I do smoke (about 4 or 5 cigs a day now) and use an electronic cigarette the rest of the time.

I'm thinking this came about from when I was fishing about a week and a half ago and stepped into a hole I didn't see and pulled my leg pretty bad. Swelling showed a few days later (now about twice as big as normal) and at the encouragement of my Mom and myself, went in to the Doc to make sure I didn't tear anything. Turned out to be a little worse than a simple tear. So here I am 25 years old taking a blood thinner, giving myself 2 shots a day and praying each day that no complications arise. Just the thought of this being a life-threatening issue is quite a burden for someone my age. Fortunately both my general physician and the hematologist seem to think there shouldn't be any pieces breaking off of it but the possibility is always there. I felt totally out of place at the hematologist's office, mainly people 65+ in there and here is who is basically a kid sitting in there among them. The Doc told me there could be a number of reasons for this happening but with there being no real history in either my Mom's side of the family or my Dad's we just have to wait and see what the blood tests and more x-rays and CT scans along with whatever else reveals.

Didn't think I'd be cherishing every morning I wake up at my age, but something like this really makes you realize there are more important things in life that money simply cannot buy.

Thanks for the kind words.

Good docs indeed, the hematologist was rated the best in Dallas in 2009 I believe so no worries on that end :) Still a little unsettling but hearing them talk and it sounding like it isn't immediate life-threatening sure made me a little more at ease. He was asking me if I had any pains anywhere, painful breathing, pain in chest and I told him "nope, feel totally normal outside of a leg that's swelled up twice as big as normal."

Hmmm last time I checked I am indeed a male. But through reading I've been doing the past two days it does seem that BC and smoking can cause blood clots. Smoking alone can cause them, if you've cut yourself I'm sure you noticed your blood is thick and not the nice red runny like it should be.

I think the worst part of all of this aside from the risk factor is having to give myself shots. Something just creeps me out about poking myself with a needle lol.

I've had enough medical problems for a while. About a year ago wound up in the ER with an awful case of constipation (yes funny I know) but the pain was like someone stabbing me in the back and chest with a knife, had my first asthma attack one morning at work about a month ago and now this. Guess they say bad luck always runs in threes so this is my third. Easy street from here on out *knock on wood* lol.

Very sorry to hear about your situation! As far as vaping, do you know what Nicotine level you have been using? I know if you are still craving cigs, you may be using too low a level. Here is a rough estimate that I've found for figuring out what nicotine level to use:

half pack to a pack a day: 12mg or 1.2
Pack to pack and a half: 18mg or 1.8
Two to two and a half: 24mg or 2.4
At my shop, we offer up to 36mg but you really need to have been a pretty heavy smoker to get up there.

Also, what kind of E-cig are you using? And are you getting pre-filled cartridges or filling with your own liquid? There are a ton of different manufacturers and retailers for liquids offering all kinds of levels, so I would definitely see about stepping up at least one rung so you don't crave analogs anymore. Then after a while of not smoking, you can step back down.

I definitely wish you great luck through all this! And if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. There is a wealth of knowledge to be had through the people here.

Well I think the swelling is starting to subside a little. Can actually see some muscle line on the outside of my leg which was swelled the most. Circulation might be improving too, leg is feeling a little different. Took a walk around the block and my leg actually didn't give me much trouble. Got the tired ache feel only as I was walking back up our driveway.

Heck even my Mom commented my leg doesn't look so swollen so things might be improving a little :)

Thanks again for all the good vibes, this place is great!

Know all about blood clots -- have a filter in a major artery to bust them up before they can do much damage, but still... Best thing I can tell you about quitting smoking is to get a good eGo starter kit and some good juice and have at it... Just quit thinking about smokes completely and vape merrily away... There are tons of good starter kits available at this site: FastTech - Gadgets and Electronics... Here's an example of what you can get for just a little money: $17.51 EGO-AS 6-in-1 USB Rechargeable 900mAh Electronic Cigarettes Health Keeping Set - black / US plug adapter at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping
