.... who is making the juice? It never dawned on me until I started making my own, but now I have to wonder, who are the people making all the pre-made e-liquid?

I guess now, it's not rocket science, because all the info is out there. Anyone could mix it up with a little research and practice, anyone could start an online store. I don't suppose you need any credentials until it's regulated.

Leaford seems like a nice guy and the facility looks very professional. But it's impossible to forget how polluted China has become and the number of contaminants that have turned up in other products from there. The reason things are largely made in China these days is because it can be done very cheaply. And there in lies the danger.

There is plenty of commercial juice being made in spare bedrooms and kitchens across the US. It takes a spiffy website or some dedicated Facebooking and you are off and running. I stick to a few US vendors and know who is making the juice.

I find it impossible to forget that people in the US were sickened and some died from the processing of chicken (to reference just one incident) in US plants. Thus, US made eliquid could be dangerous to use.

If you are able to tour the site from top to bottom where your eliquid is made and there is video monitoring to insure safety and quality, it is probably safe.

To me it's all part of the same problem. The reason food safety is so poor is the same reason so many things are being made in China. Lowest possible cost to produce and sell. Same reason there is a Walmart everywhere you turn. And I am sure there is plenty of potentially unsafe US e-juice. Worst hacking I've had while vaping was provided by a local juice brand being manufactured right around the corner.

Unless we take it to an independent lab we have no idea what is really in it. A million video cameras will not solve that problem. Is openness a good thing? Absolutely.

some people who make juice are actual chemists by trade (nude nicotine & steam monkey-grizzly vapes to name two)

i've seen some ads for shops that look like this:

We are hiring at My Baker Vapor. Looking for skilled mixologists. Follow the link below and send completed job applications to support@mtbakervapor.com. Full-time + benefits after 90 days.
MBV Careers
Production Worker (E Juice Mixer) FT

Are you looking for an exciting job mixing e-juice and packaging customer orders? Do you meet the following criteria?

Communication
Mature
Reliable
Quick Learner
Motivated
Punctual
Take Initiative
Understands Computers
Organized

Vaperite is hiring! We're looking for juice mixers who happen to be awesome.

Also we pay. That's important. Here's a quick overview of what we're looking for:

Flavor Production Apprenticeship

Seeking an e-juice fanatic to help our research and development team! Are you the master of DIY? Can you immediately figure out the undertones of your juice? We need you!

Requirements include:

At least a basic grasp of chemistry

Knowledge of precalculus

Vaping experience

Bombies Inc. is looking for dedicated and loyal vapers to join our humble team -- we are a small group of enthusiasts located in West Los Angeles, CA. The operation is split between two teams: Day Team is run by W, and Night Team is run by H-Dawg.

You are someone who has a keen interest in vaping, and believe it can help change lives. If this is the case, I want to work with you. In the smashlab, we have daily discussions about mods, rbas, new juices, better builds, and everything in between.

At this time, we are looking for part-time Mixing Assassins only. The shop is run from 9:00 AM to 2:00 AM, Mondays to Sunday, so more than likely there will be hours that can work for you. If you are interested, please email your resume to jobs@bombies.com (it does not need to be vaping-related) and tell me what's under your top cap.

Disclaimer: I may not be able to respond to every email individually, but your resume will be kept on file. Make sure to leave a phone number and the best time to call. Some people have said "anytime," which means I've been calling at 1:00 AM PDT.

Addendum: You don't need to be experienced in DIY, or anything vaping related. For me, potential is what I am going after and I've come to realize that talent comes from the strangest places. We have a baker (Vee) helping us mix and sometimes we get free cookies

I don't even know what to say right now  Thank you firephly, it is even worse than I thought.

I always wondered, which was one push to DIY for me. I also wondered about what contaminants or ingredients I might not approve of were in the liquid.

I'm a bit of a stickler about that kind of stuff. Not so much with food, as our digestive systems can handle a lot of contaminants without too many issues, but inhaled? Absolutely.

I only DIY for myself (and my mother sometimes) and although very careful, I don't wear a mask. I can't give myself a cold, and in all likelihood my mother either gave it to me or I already gave it to her. :)

yeah mt baker didn't seem to care if you have any relevant experience either...

i'm sure both places make safe juice, they're both very popular.

I don't worry about it too much, although i like the idea of having a chemist create my juice, the guy who makes grizzly vapes was asked if he'd make a custard, he said "No custards, I don't trust the ingredient I would have to use. There is a tiny chance that they might have diacetyl in them. IMO it such a small chance I don't see an issue. I just don't want room for questioning the safety for my juice so I don't use it."

I trust him a lot more than say, that guy who makes cuttwood unicorn milk, who the hell adds a chemical (Titanium Dioxide) that a simple google search could tell him is unhealthy for inhalation? wth

The problem is nobody knows for sure and that is what concerns me. Just saw another new vendor turn up today and their juice is every color of the rainbow like some of MBV. Vaping food coloring may turn out to be safe, but who knows for sure, so I'm gonna skip it just to be safe.

nanner bear & koko bear are great (there's a menthol version called polar bear too)

Koko and Nanner sound pretty good to me.

EXACTLY! You never know the conditions the stuff you are going to inhale was put together in.

 "Smashlab" . . . "mixing assassins" . . . my reaction exactly!

lol, I'm sure Bombies is fine, 'smashlab' is the part on his site where he introduces new flavors. it's just made by one guy and now he got so popular he has to hire more people, he has a zillion great reviews on reddit. Bombies
I think his ad is just aimed at a younger audience (not kids, but like 20's)

I've wanted to try it but i heard his stuff is mild flavored

I for one never got into vaping thinking I was taking vitamins by vaping. Still better than smoking.

My feelings exactly. I will try to avoid things that are bad though, as we figure out what they are. I almost feel like it's my responsibility as an ecig user to end up healthier than I would have smoking. I'd like to be one of the people who proves what we're all saying about vaping.

This is a timeless question. Picture a fat, sweaty, hairy, dude chugging a beer on a dirty couch with his beer gut protruding out of his "waaaay too small" stained yellow wife beater, and in between thundering belches and cheeto crumbs, he's mixing your juice. That could be anyone. I'm very picky with that image in mind. I do believe I've done business with that guy in the past . Ewww.
