Stick with it MariB I'm pulling for ya!

Make sure you get enough nic concentration when starting off vaping. 24mg sounds good for a pack a day smoker. I can understand if you're looking to reduce nic intake but take it slow and make sure you get enough nic to stay off analogs first! Also remember that nic intake from vaping is much less efficient so don't hesitate to chain vape if you're feeling the urge to smoke.

Definitely don't give up, girl! Keep your analogs around. I quit three months ago, and still have a half a pack of analogs sitting on my desk. I didn't even try touching them after the first week or so.

If you light one up, no problem. Just keep vaping. Eventually you will find that you prefer vaping over smoking, then you'll slowly dwindle it down to no analogs.

Also, try to non-tobacco flavors. The bakery-inspired vapes are so yummy! I started with tobacco flavors, as well, but now prefer banana cream pie, apple pie, sugar cookie, chocolate mint, etc.

You WILL be coughing a LOT as you wean down on the analogs. It's normal, though. It's just your body's way of expelling the crud left behind by the analogs. This took about a month for me.

Good luck, and please don't give up.

Welcome first of all :) When you start vaping, sometimes you have to relearn inhalation techniques. One thing is, you are not breathing in smoke, which has dry characteristics. Vapor is more a steam inhalation type sensation, and steam is very hard to inhale in a controlled manner, it tends to make you cough. I always take some air in with my vapor, I adjust by how fully I close my lips on the driptip. This also is variable according to what strength, flavor you are vaping and the entire thing is individual as to taste and tolerance. I started with the strongest (36mg) juice so I could compensate for my analog strength, I smoked Shermans. That worked well for me although I did chain vape the day I decided to switch, it was a process. I have dropped to 18 by now. I also mixed 36mg and 24mg to make the stepdown smoother. you can really tweak your level by simple mixing of the same flavor in different strengths. I have about half the AVE Juice flavor selections, it helps to use flavor as an element of the switch. I do love the "Bobba's Bounty", look around, vary your vaping, change elements to find interesting ways to enjoy the vape.
TH is one thing, but that also has a lot to do with technique in your inhalation method. There is a large difference with the two substances. A major problem I had was the various atty's and how they were treated, manufactured, what they needed to become tolerable, "breaking in" etc. New vapers especially can be thrown off, discouraged, just by the random harshness of an attty or carto, Some have a harshness above what you would think. Quality can be a factor, so try more than one or two brands or types. I almost quit due to a particularly harsh, acidic (coil?), which made the inside of my mouth feel raw and burned. One bit of good news is, as ThiswishIwish pointed out, you are using NIC, so there is only the chemical consumtion that you are subjected to, so, if you do use an occasional analog, you are not falling off any wagon so to speak, so no demerit for doing so... there is no wagon for us to fall off of :)

When I switched, I went with 24mg nic and 70/30 PG/VG mixes. I also went with tobacco-based flavors; in my head, it felt like I was crossing a bridge. It's been a little over 8 months now without an analog.

A big draw for me is the amount of variety in an ecig. I can vape pretty much any flavor ever created- no analog could provide that. Even if I find one that might be gross to me, I know there's going to be much more out there that's going to be good. I can change PG/VG ratios to experiment, as well. You could say the joy is in the journey for me :p

I'm glad so many of you have done so well with switching, it really is inspiring. I've got some new stuff coming, new carts as well as juices. We'll see how it goes. I've been doing a lot better. Some days I only have one analog, some days I may have three. But at least I'm not smoking a pack! The coughing is doing better as well, either it was an irritated throat from having a cold or I'm use to vaping now. I'm happy either way. I'm trying not to beat myself up if I have an analog. I will be really happy however, when I'm finally not smoking them anymore. :)

How are you doing and how is it going? I hope that your vaping experience has become enhanced. I'm currently starting the learning curve for DIY e-liquid and have made 10 ml of yecch, 10ml of o.k., and 15ml of rockin' good! Hang in there MariB and let us know how you are doing.

Doing good, thanks for asking! Actually, I WAS doing really well. Three days off analogs and my stardusts broke. Since I only started vaping a month ago, I don't have a lot of supplies. So I went back to analogs while I waited for my shipment of new stuff. Got everything today so I am BACK to transitioning. Hopefully it will be easier this time. I'm already so thankful I got my new tank though. Vaping is so much better. I'm so happy with the lack of ash, second hand smoke, and crappy flavor. So far I've tried a lot of juices but only like a couple. Maybe I'll find more in the future. Thanks again for asking!

Time to give a shout out to MariB: Wahh-Hooooo! How are you doing and what's new? I'm getting a little bit better with the DIY and have learned a lot about my ejuice me up software. I still can't match my favorite bought e-liquid (Vanilla Latte 24 mg from Stormy's Vapor Cellar) but I have made some good cappuccino and creme and kona coffee and cream e-liquid. I also am growing closer to my ideal tobacco DIY e-liquid which seems to be more palatable each new mix!
I noticed a slow down on your thread and mainly wanted to give you a shout and say hang in there. I also wanted to mention to always search these forums (or google "your supplier name) with coupon or coupon code and you can save some $.

Vape on. :vapor:

Vaping gives me a wicked cough if I have any kind of throat infection. If I persist (I'm a heavy vaper) I can even end up wheezing for half the night. Very unpleasant.

My solution was to throw a fair bit of money at a ton of supplies in many strengths and flavours. You need to be able to adjust to something and it can take a lot to find the right balance.

Surprisingly, I found that the lower nic juices made me cough a lot less. I live on 6mg boba's now. I never would have guessed that as I was a 40/day smoker only 20 months ago.

Get some straight PG & VG juice too - its cheap, and you can use it to dilute the nic in the stronger juice you may have already bought. Get some "doublers" no-nic flavours to boost flavour if you want (although I have heaps and rarely use these anymore).
