So I bought an RSST and have it on my Vamo. The first wick and coil I made worked like a champ. Not one hot spot. But now I am trying to change my coil and its hot spotting like the 4th of July. But I have redone it quite a few times now and the coils seem perfect. Nice and snug around the wick and no areas touching each other at all. But this thing is just sparking from all sides.

Any suggestions? I have tried different size wire, made new wicks, but just can't get the hot spots to stop.

Could try re-oxidizing the coil-side of the wick a bit more. Or you could try wrapping a small piece of rolling paper (no glue) around the top of the wick and then wrapping your coil around that. Pulse until all the paper burnes away, leaving a layer of oxidation under the coil.

Did you fold over the lip of the last twist of the wick about 1mm? You may have some frays along the cut where you didn't have them on the first wick.

Maybe I will try 1 more time making a new wick. I am looking for some ceramics right now too.
Another question. When you change out new wicks, is the tank supposed to be totally empty?
