Retail minimum is gonna be $169, anything sold for less won't have a warranty. So if you buy this from any vendor for less and it's a dud or it has a defect....you're screwed! hcigar will not honor the warranty and they'll cut off that vendor.

Warranty is for 1 year.

the black one is sexy.

One year warranty is good. But most of the time the warranties from the stores are better than the factory warranty, therefor I don't care about MAPs.

Not sure if I like the brass 510...

You're not gonna have a store warranty, cuz at the moment....hcigar's battery pack is custom.

So unless Hcigar is gonna offer replacement packs, everybody could be SOL.

Could be a deal-breaker IMO.

Nobody's gonna drop $170 on a "maybe".....and if you buy it for less, you're most definitely screwed cuz you won't be able to replace the pack.

I have a 6 month warranty at fasttech and get either a full refund or a new product. Thats what happend twice in the past without any problems. In the first 3 month you get your shipping costs back too. Just had to do this with a $100 mod and was refunded completely after 2 1/2 month.

So no, still no dealbreaker for me.

Evolv has stated that they will warranty the chip.

Thru a 3rd party?

Generally speaking, they'll only honor a warranty thru the original buyer because of the time-limited warranty.

Far as I know, the warranty begins when the original buyer purchases the board(s)....but maybe Evolv has different terms for major builders?

But besides that, the warranty will mean little if Hcigar doesn't provide back-up packs for sale. Cuz according to un-named sources, they're not going to be offering them on the VT200 release.

The packs are custom, not available on the market.

Not a very smart move. Then they might as well have made it a closed device. What's the point of having a magnetic lid when you can't change the battery anyway?

I think what they're trying to do is use the replacement packs as leverage to support their price-fixing.

I don't know that for 'sure', it's just a theory....

So if a vendor doesn't follow their price-fixing and decides to sell at below $169, then not only will they deny the warranty, but they won't have access to back-up cell packs.

So....anybody that's dumb enough to buy it lower than the fixed price, is gonna be SOL in the long run. The resale value of it would be ZERO as well cuz without replacement packs, it's virtually worthless....cept maybe for parts?

You probably have to show proof that you purchased it thru "said vendor" before being allowed to purchase spare packs?

If my theory is correct, it's a smart way to control their price-fixing....but could be disastrous for competing vendors. Especially if they don't disclose the truth when selling it below $169.

how many replacement packs does someone need? And I think that they will be 3rd party manufacturers for the battery packs if there is demand. No matter what they do, they will not stop selling the below MAP and if the battery is good for 1 year I am happy. Never used a mod that long anyway.

Well of course, but how many vendors are gonna buy 500 packs?

Custom packs have very high MOQ's.

Good for a year?

Doubt it...but even still, what are you gonna do if you get a dud or a defect?

This'll be why a warranty is gonna be VERY important to most people.

Wondering why would a vendor sell below the MAP when in case of refund he/she loses money with no way of getting anything from manufacturer?

Price-fixing is illegal in the USA, violation of the Sherman Act....and China is very well aware of it.

A vendor could lose their license to do business if they're caught.

shipping costs from austria to wherever they are and back are most likely around 50% of the mods price. So, ok, I am out of here as it seems I am the only one that does not care about warranty.

You see at most of the other companies that even if you have "warranty" it is useless because either they say it is your fault or they just don't respond. So why invest time. Fix it yourself or throw it away or use the dealers warranty.

over and out.

Thru a 3rd party?

Evolv's statement on this issue:

Now this next point may not be popular, but I will make it anyway. We will do our damndest to support all genuine DNA containing devices, regardless of country of origin. Can someone in this country who has built their mod making business on support give the best customer experience? Unquestionably.

You're not alone, I don't care for it either.
I've been doing business with China for something like 15 years now and I never expect any warranty. Sure, there may be cases when you're losing money but when I look at how much it has saved me by getting really cheap items I really don't care if it happens sometimes.
If I can choose to get a 30% discount in exchange for losing warranty then I'll happily take it!
