I just got a text last night from my friend who I recently got to start vaping. She said that "there was a story on the dateline website that nicotine is man made rather than coming from tobacco and it's harmful. The water accumulates in puddles at the bottom of your lungs and the bad nicotine is constantly absorbing into the blood vessels."

I can't find this article anywhere. Anyone know about this? I could really honestly care less, it doesn't seem even half as bad as cancer, even if it isn't true.:glare:

I wonder how they are getting it into tomoatoes, potatoes ect.... they going around and injecting it into vegetables? Sounds like rubbish to me but I'll see if I can dig anything up about it.

Ask her for a link. I really hate it when people spread unfounded rumors. Asking for a link usually makes them stop. I looked on the Dateline site and couldn't find anything.

It sounds like she got it from a hoax email to me. Really? Bad nicotine constantly gets absorbed in the blood vessels? Water accumulates in the lungs? Gullible people will believe anything...

More misinformation. Doesn't mean that someone didn't write an article about it- just means that they didn't check their facts
The nicotine in e-cig liquids is extracted from tobacco. Synthetic nicotine is extremely expensive to make, and extremely expensive to purchase. Even the pharmaceutical companies that make NRTs use nicotine extracted from tobacco.

If the vapor condensed and puddled in your lungs we'd see a lot of reports of pneumonia- and that's not happening. Think sauna and really humid weather- not the best analogies, but that'll give you a way to think about it.

Potatoes, eggplant etc do contain naturally occurring nicotine- but only in very small amounts.

The extraction or (in the case of lab made) process can have a effect of what is in nicotine and it is said the tobacco extracted is best. In the case of N-Joy, FDA looked at nitrosamines of e-juice which was equivalent to that of NRT devices and hundreds as well as thousands worse in real cigs (depending.on the cig brand, Marlboro the worst).
Anyone feeding you misinformation of what is in e-cig juice was just disproven by even the dreaded FDA.

Yes other veggies have nic in them as well. Red peppers being the highest, but even potatoes and cauliflower. As CES says, greatly reduced, and also not inhaled. BUT what is inhaled in e-cigs has been looked at, and if ANY component is of concern, it's the flavorings, not the nic. Flavorings have issues.

I have a friend who is paid medical researcher. Both he and my doctor say nicotine is fairly harmless compared to other things we injest in our bodies. And it may raise the heart rate but not much. My heart rate runs low these days and could use some help. I think nicotine helps. But a hot mail-order bride would help more--send pictures :)

One would have to be a real health nut to be concerned about nicotine.

That was the FDA's arguing points, and the toxins were nitrosamine, which is also in cigs nicotine at ""100-1000x"" more, depending on cig brand (with Marlboro hitting the top #).
Nitrosamines are in about 4 forms and it is not decided if they are a carcinogen, but very minorly suspected....thus, the FDA's scare tactic.

Run...Hide!!
This is all about "harm reduction" not "elimination", and no carcinogens like from smoke and a 100-1000x decrease in one suspected element in Nic, which isn't even considered harm in cigs as a danger.
Go figure.

There is a legitimate concern about freebase nicotine, where cigarette manufacturers treat tobacco with chemicals in order to make the naturally-occurring nicotine more addictive - this has been a pretty well-known (and well-despised) practice of cigarette manufacturers. This article also contains links with references: Freebase nicotine - SourceWatch
