Greetings. I just received a 510 starter kit a couple of days ago. I have been smoking for 17 years and am wondering if my first day of vaping was the way I should be headed.

It came in the mail on friday, that was mostly a day of battery charging, trying out the 2nd battery. Pretty inconsistent day smoking and vaping uncharged, so I won't really consider that my first day.

I am/was a 2 pack a day smoker. Saturday was when I started officially vaping with 18mg juice. (after ordering, I think I read that 2pack smokers should start with higher mg) So I wake up and go right for the cigarette. When I wake up, I don't really want to mess with anything, just go smoke. I smoke another 4 hours later, and maybe another about 2+ hours the rest of the day after that.

I had 10 cigarettes on the first day which would normally be 40 without vaping. I was just looking for opinions, is this a decent way to start or am I off base here?

One other thing that I was wondering. I really like my 510 as is right now. Do people mod up over time due to their ecig just not being as enjoyable as it used to be? Maybe over time I will change my tune, but I'd really rather not mess with anything else at the moment. I'm wondering if there are folks who are content with their e-cig the way it is, or does everyone eventually look for that boost.

Right now, I'm so glad I came around and tried vaping. Just couldn't imagine using the patch or gum and being satisfied with it.

There is no right way to switch from analogs to vaping. It's different for everyone. I stopped smoking on day 3 of vaping. My wife hasn't had a cigarette since she started vaping. Others take weeks or months. The fact that you cut your daily intake by 3/4 is huge!

As for mods and upgrading, it's also dependent on the person. Some people are pleased as punch with their 510s and don't want to put the time in to learn about bigger batteries, low resistance atomizers, variable voltage, etc. Then there's the gadget geeks, like me, that want to try out different models and learn everything they can about PVs. I've been vaping for just shy of a month and I'm waiting for my 4th vaporizer to arrive in the mail.

Welcome to vaping. You're doing great.

My son quit day 1, i cheated 4 a day. then when i got ego i cheated 2 a day, then i got LR Atty for ego and quit. been smoke free for 3 weeks and only cheated once when wife in hospital n god it was nasty so will prob never cheat again.
I vape mostly Chocolate flavors but hit the Marlboro wanna be when i get a craving for a real cig. Chocos very low in nic 8-12 mg so i can vape alot and the wanna be is high 36mg to kill any urges after meals.
Bottom line, how ever it works out for you as long as you are cutting down slow or fast atleast you are cutting down then it will happen.
Keep Vaping

Welcome psoup!!
I am only at this for 8 weeks or so,but my initial experience was similar to yours. I still have an analog or few as needed, it still beats 2 packs a day!
Most of my mods are battery life driven, the 510 is great but over time I got tired of dead batts etc. It's a lot of new info, and products but well worth it!
I'm using 36 mg with few problems - just once in a while nothing but nothing beats the old analog.
Some can just make the switch easier than others.
Read up and don't give up!

But good luck too you keep up the good job.

Welcome psoup!

I smoked 2 packs/day for about 28 years, and 24 mg juice works well for me.

Nicotine releases dopamine into the brain, which makes you "feel happy." The nicotine is metabolized by monoamine oxidase (MAO), so the "feel happy" doesn't last very long. Cigarette companies have figured out how to add monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) to cigarettes so nicotine isn't metabolized as rapidly and the dopamine effect lasts longer. E-cigs don't have MAOI, and you therefore have to vape them constantly for them to compete with cigarettes.

Cigarette smoke contains carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, which compete with oxygen in getting into your bloodstream. It takes 10 to 15 minutes for nicotine to take effect, but oxygen deprivation is nearly instant. The "nicotine high" you get with your first cigarette of the day is really just oxygen deprivation. The only way you can get this effect from vaping is to hold your breath.

I still smoke in the morning with my coffee and in the evening with my beer. So what? I've cut way back. You should be proud of yourself for just cutting back. You're doing great!

Welcome! I had a similar question about a week ago - I'm 2 weeks 3 days into vaping. I was a PAD smoker and since discovering vaping I now smoke 1-2 analogs every few days or so, but the cravings for those are really starting to decrease. I'm hoping when the pack I have runs out, it will be the last - EVER!

You are doing great!! Based on the feedback I received from the members of this great forum I learned not to compare my results with others - just do what feels right for you. The fact that you've discovered vaping is already a step in the right direction. Don't try to think about what you'll want in the future, just focus on what's working for you today. If/when the time comes to mod up - you'll know!

Good luck! :)

Thanks for the informative and encouraging replies.

I only have 2 batteries atm, but plan on getting a couple more those and even more atomizers. I do notice the not so long battery life, but usually when one goes out, the other is ready. That could get old after a while. Doesn't bother me at the moment. I still have a bit to learn tho, but I'm trying to catch up.

What a difference I can already tell. Taking deep breaths that are not painful. I haven't been able to do that in a while, and that's after one day of cheating.

Looking forward to the rest of the benefits that poison takes away from you.

Welcome PSoup! Youre doing great - took me 10 days to quit entirely and I didnt reduce my intake as much as you have on day 1 n 2 - well done! Dont rush yourself - you smoked a long time - go at your OWN pace even if it means you still have a few cigs in a month still.
And yes, many (but not all) people will 'mod up' once they feel comfortable with using their PV - it took me 6 months though because I was happy enough with my 510 basic and 510 PT. First I got an eGo (still a small battery but much better than the standard 510 battery life) and now a Buzz (this thing is the size of 3 AA batteries in height lol but it rocks).
Weclome and again well done so far!

Got my 510 4 days ago, and after 52 years of smoking, I haven't had an analog since. After using one preloaded cartridge that came with the 510, I'm now dripping and really love it. I have tried to quit smoking several times in the past, but because of the level of my nicotine addiction (1 1/2 packs a day), I never made it past the 2nd day. The 510 has changed my life.

I had 10 cigarettes on the first day which would normally be 40 without vaping. I was just looking for opinions, is this a decent way to start or am I off base here?

I went from 2 PAD to 1 pack-a-week (3 cigs-per-day!!) with the first puff on my 402, but that was with 30 mg juice, so I would say you are doing fine. I tracked down some stronger juice (48 & 60 mg/ml) and after a couple weeks of that I was down to 1 cig every 2-3 days. Then on Thankgiving Day '09 I decided to skip the after-dinner-cig and, though I didn't realize it immediately, I was done with smoking.

One other thing that I was wondering. I really like my 510 as is right now. Do people mod up over time due to their ecig just not being as enjoyable as it used to be? Not necessarily. If you're a gadget freak or if you picked the wrong device you will probably explore other options sooner rather than later. In my case I have been happy & successful for 10 months with the 401 & 402, and the worst that can be said is that I have stockpiled too many batts (a dozen or so) and atomizers (2 or 3 per batt).

The one thing I am getting tired of is short batterty life. A fully charged 401, under chain vaping conditions, only lasts me about an hour. I've heard that the 510 is worse in this respect. I'm pretty sure I'm about to pop for an eGO (that's a 510 on batt steroids) and some adaptors that will let me use up my stockpile of 401 attys.

Right now, I'm so glad I came around and tried vaping. Just couldn't imagine using the patch or gum and being satisfied with it.

Multiple (4 & 5 at a time!) 21 mg patches had no discernible effect on my cigarette consumption.

Good luck & Keep On Vapin'
