Been reading up on this forum for a few days now to try and wrap my head around e-cigs. So far I think that I've read too much to the point of confusion so I'm just going to jump in and buy. Unfortunately I don't know anyone that smokes e-cigs (and I live in Chicago, go figure), so I'm going at it alone.

I really don't care if it looks liek a cig or not, so after a ton of reading I'm going to purchase an echo (650 I think will be plenty). Looking to order from D&b gold (once I get 5 posts), is there anything else I need to buy beyond this kit to be up and running? And should I go for an Auto or Manual?

Thanks!

Echo seems to get good reviews but its an auto battery, meaning it's open (theres a hole in the connector). If you overfill a carto (which you probably will), it could get into the battery and ruin it. I would recommend a Riva kit from liberty-flights, they are only $30 and are manual (be sure to click the 20% off in the top left). I use boge 2.0 cartomizers on my riva. crystalclearvaping.com has them for 15 for $20 free shipping.

*EDIT*

Also the echo is an 808 connection. I started with a model with an 808 connection. The riva has a 510 connection. I like the options available for 510 connections much better.

I agree Tstack, the eGo or Riva from Liberty-Flights.com is a great PV and the echo is a derivative of that. The 510 atty connections are universal to all PV's and the batteries are great too! They also have a eGo mega staerter kit with 900 and 100mah batteries, use the 20% discount code on the top of the website, great service and delivery. Good luck.

Welcome to ECF!

I second the suggestion for either Riva or eGo starter kits from Liberty-Flights, but I'm also going to suggest the E-Power from VaporJunction. It's an eGo body with replaceable batteries rather than proprietary.

Whatever you decide to buy, make sure you get a couple of extra atomizers and buy some cartomizers just to give those a try, too.

Oh, and always use manual batteries! You'll have more control over your vape and you won't have to worry about juice getting inside the battery and killing it!

Thanks for all the great advice! After reading both recommendations to eGo it at liberty-flights I went big and bought the eGo-T starter kit. Then today I read some more here and realized I should've just purchased the original eGo...oh well. I did go to cignot and ordered 2 LR atomizers so I think I'll be set for the time being...I'll let you know Monday night after my very first vape :)

    in a cave, eh?
Well, you can still try Boge LR or SmokTech dual coil cartomizers with your Ego-T batteries. Add an Ego cone to make it look nice and protect the battery connection and you don't have to worry about leaking tanks. :D

The Echo would have been a nice PV, too. It vapes warmer i.e., 4.2 volts vs. 3.7 volts Riva vs. 3.4 volts Ego. It also holds more juice. I don't think it's really fair to dismiss it as an Ego-clone. There are issues with that system: automatic batteries (you want to be careful to keep them dry; no dripping) and any other atomizer or cartomizer combination you want to try with it is just going to look a little weird because you'll need a thread adapter.

I've had my e-cig for five weeks before finding this community. I had the opportunity to get one manual and one automatic when I bought but--silly me--I just thought I would like the auto better. What led me to look for advice was that I wasn't (am not) getting what I want from my kit. Every once in a while I get an outstanding hit but most of the time I am fiddling around trying to get the damn thing to work right. Still haven't smoked a free range cig since my kit arrived but I've been comapring it to having an O'Douls rather than a real beer.

Well, you don't get the same experience from vaping vs. smoking, but you could still find after a while that you actually like vaping better. Regarding the kit that isn't always hitting for you. What kind of setup do you have? What kind of juice? Is it 100% VG? Are you getting enough nicotine, i.e. how many mg? 24mg?
