Hi Folks!

Been reading the forum, and decided to register and interact. You know – like a human!

Anyway, I’ve been a smoker for 20 years. Quit perhaps three or four times in that span, the longest stretch for 2 years. I went from menthols to non-menthols, to filterless, wides, Lights, eventually to American Spirit Ultra Lights.

A friend of mine (who used to join me outside for smoke breaks) showed me a Green Smart Living e-cigarette (according to research, they are rn4081) he picked up on his way to work, and when he told me where he got it, and how many places around town carried the refills, I was intrigued. Coupled with the short list of perceived benefits he was enjoying since using e-cigs, I was sold. I went to the same shop and purchased a starter kit and some refills.

Since Friday, I’ve had about one analog a day, and that’s been when my battery has run out. I’m still only on the second cartomizer.

Then I found the forums and started doing research.

Wow. The first three nights I suffered from information overload. I’m only beginning to understand some of the concepts.

I have so many questions!

1) Is my battery going to explode? I mean, the thread is pinned to the top of the newbie forum. Is this a risk we all just accept as part of the deal? Do I have to do anything special to avoid this – like take my carto off when not in use, store it with the carto down if I keep it attached, etc?

2) What exactly would I be missing out on if I decide not to buy juice and fill my own cartomizers? I like the ease of use, and to be honest, all the warnings of the juice being toxic, and not to let myself get any on my skin has kind of made me a bit leery of trying it. If I do, can I safely take apart one of these prefilled ones when I finish it and try to refill that?

3) I’m on one battery right now. As I’ve said, I’ve had about 1 (maybe tops, 3) analogs per day since I’ve started this a week ago. I’m guessing I might enjoy the convenience of another battery, and a PCC. Right now, I carry the usb charger, and 5 extra cartos in an empty Altoids tin. I’m thinking about holding off for about a month (somewhere towards the end of this battery’s life) and then trying to buy a system very similar in size and ability to what I have. Maybe my vaping will pick up, and I’ll be running out of battery power in less time. I’m not sure. So far, I leave the house for about 12 hours a day, and somewhere towards the end of the night I run out, or sometime early during the next day. I’ve been trying to run the battery dead before charging, though, so after 1 or 2 more times of running out of power, I’ll feel more comfortable just charging it at night with the rest of my devices. Oh, yeah: my question – anyone really happy with a RN4081 system that I might want to look at? I’m kind of an aesthetics neurotic so I was thinking of getting some generic batteries because I hate branding on stuff I’m using.

4) Are my battery and cartomizers lasting unusually long? I’m averaging 1 battery charge per day, and 2 days per cartomizer right now. I’m about to finish the ones that came with the starter kit, and the next one I use will be from the refill pack. So maybe I’ll answer my own question by Saturday. But the battery life seems fine to me. Maybe I’m a light smoker. Maybe I’m not vaping as much as I smoked because it’s still a little weird to me. Who knows?

To those who set this forum up, a million thank yous. I know I have been thinking about trying this for a long time, and this forum has been an immense help – though I haven’t yet taken any drastic actions, at the very least, my mind is at ease.

1. Your batteries not going to explode. Its a slim ecig with not a ton of power. Most people that have problems with batteries are because they are stacking them and/or High voltages. I recommend not letting your batteries drain all the way though, they will last longer

2. Just using prefilled will limit you to what you can use. Also you can get ejuice on your hands. What your not supposed to get on your hands is pure nicotine. You would only use that if you started making your own juices so you dont have anything to worry about. You can refill one of the ones you have but some prefilled ones dont take refilling well.

3. I wouldnt leave them charging overnight. If you like the slim ecig style, Vapor4life has a good one that is popular for beginners and works well. Using a slim though will limit you to what you can use. You cant use LR attys/cartos with them.

4. That is pretty long for those batteries. They have a small mah, prob around 180 or so so they need to be charged fairly frequently. Bigger battery PVs last much longer

I answered kinda quick but itll give you alittle info.
Goodluck!

What myname said. An extra battery wouldn't hurt, they will go out at the worst time. Take your time and find what works for you. Post your experiences, you never know who it will help and in what way. The more information we have the better choices we make.

Don't forget to thank yourself for taking the plunge and making your life better and healthier.

Welcome and participate however you can.

Welcome , and as for refilling your carts . It's very easy and safe to do . If your at all concerned with the little amount of juice that may get on your fingers , by all means , just wear some disposable gloves . But even a nicotine patch has to be on a softer part of your shin for several hours before any nic is absorbed . Simply wash your hands after you fill your carts , that;s if you even get any juice on at all . Good luck . And by the way , filling your own carts is way cheaper than buying pre-filled carts . Plus you choose the flavor and nicotine strength you want .

Welcome to ECF
I have an eGo passthrough, and I really love it. It's the one that you can plug in and vape, or unplug and vape on the go. I believe VaporGod has them for $16.99, battery and cord only, and they have 5 packs of cartos cheap, and if you get cartos you get a free bottle of juice. So if you want a good passthrough, that's the one I recommend. It has the 510 threads, so there's a lot you can do with it, cartos, tanks, anything that fits 510. Just my :2c:

Thank you all for your help and advice.

I'm not sure if this is even the kind of thing to share here: I think I'm in some sort of trouble.

On Friday, I decided to check out a local brick and mortar store dedicated to vaping.

The owner was very friendly. I hesitate to post the store link yet, as I'm still a new user and don't want to be labeled a shill. But the owner was very helpful, aside from his necessary salesmanship. I mean, I understand he's got a business to run, right?

So, he found an adaptor that would fit my RN4081 battery, and then started to let me try a few samples that he had laid out. To be honest, I'd never really considered the flavors seriously - because I have smoked pipes and I've only really liked one "flavored" tobacco. All the others tasted way to "chemical" if they had strong flavoring. But these were really good flavors. Not hugely awesome, I suppose, but very enjoyable. Enough to make me research how to fill a cartomizer.

But then, a few feet further in the store, is where I think I might have run into some trouble. He had an eGo system set up, and put a new tank/atty on it and handed it to me. I don't even know what flavor it was, but it was sweet, gave me a cool, thick vapor, and without any hyperbole or exaggeration, I'll say that this single experience was basically everything I probably romanticized smoking to be.

Since then, I've been walking around sucking on my rn4081 to just keep from craving nicotine, but all I can think about is that eGo.

I need to figure some stuff out.

I started this with the intention of giving up analogs, and stepping down my nicotine levels until I felt like I could quit. That one vape changed my mind. Now I'm thinking about saving up for stuff. For bigger systems. For changing from the rn4081 to a 510 based system so that I could carry around super mini batts for when I'm away from the house, and use the same carts for a larger box mod at home. Or worse! I've become fascinated with youtube videos of double coil cartos. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY I'D WANT SO MUCH VAPE ON HAND YET. I wouldn't vape that much in one sitting. I don't think.

Was the better vape likely from the eGo, from the liquid, or from the combination? I was content to stick with this Green Smart Living starter kit. The recharge schedule for one battery seemed to be working out. But now I am thinking I'm going change to a 510 and invest heavily in a system.

Is there a next step? Like perhaps try some other liquids with what I have first - to see if it was just the juice. Then, if its just not giving me what I want, I try a 510 set up. And if that's not working, then go for an eGo WITH the juice I had tried?

Am I chasing an entirely new dragon?

I don't think I've ever gotten so hooked and frustrated so quickly with anything else. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Additionally, I'm thinking of going ahead and paying the higher prices at the brick and mortar. It would serve 2 purposes: 1) Instant gratification, 2) the guy really put in the work to sell me, and he did. I feel like he deserves the reward.

For anyone wondering, I'm in L.A., and there's really only one place that comes up on google when you search vaping in L.A..

Thanks for any advice. Or humoring me.

No way to know. Do you even know if it was a standard resistance tank atomizer or LR? Tube type A or B? And you don't know what juice was in it. In general tanks (at least with a new clean atomizer and a perfectly positioned wick) use juice faster and probably give bigger drags more easily. Just the fast alone that is it is a MANUAL battery would make it give a much better drag every if it had an adapter and your RN4081 carto on it.

Yes - you could try a manual battery on your current model. AZSMokeFree has some manual Rn4081 batteries.

A small 510 is no stronger than Rn4081

I'd get the Ego or a box mod anything that runs at 3.7 volts or above is going to give you that beautiful hit and vapor on any decent juice. I got a simple 3.7 box mod for whopping 20 bucks and LOVE it but the Ego is more attractive looking to most than a box mod. The juice choices are endless too. Welcome its nice to see your excitement in your new venture.

Welcome to the ECF, ke7in11! You've come to the right place if you're now chasing a new dragon! :)

Basically, you've experienced the difference between a "starter" e-cig (the Green Smart) and a couple of steps up to a more enjoyable vaping experience (the eGo). A ton of people love the eGo and its clones for the very same reasons you can't stop thinking about it! It's an easy device to use, does its job very well, and the 510 threading will give you virtually limitless choices of using atomizers, cartomizers, tanks, etc..

Good luck with your vaping adventures, and I vote that you save your $$$ for an eGo rig. You'll be much happier in the long run with a device you love vs. one you put up with to keep you away from the analogs. Oh, and start with the juice you liked in the store, then try other vendors' juices to see what you like. Sample lots of different juice flavors because what you like now may not be what you like in the future.

I tested vaping with disposable e-cigs (just to get a hang of it) and pretty soon I was aware that I can quit smoking finally after 30 years. That's six week ago.

Since disposables are expensive and throath hit, flavor and vapor production is nowhere near analogs (aka real tobacco), I ordered eGo-T (tank version) and bunch of liquids with different flavors. That was close enough for me to resemble of all the aspects of my former vice. At that time, I knew that I'm never going back to analogs. I bought bunch of spare batteries (pass through, 1100mAh), extra atomizers, etc. No single point of failure, so to speak. That was five weeks ago.

In my use, two eGo tanks is absolute maximum that I have gone through within single day (and that meant extra extra heavy vaping sessions). Batteries last day and half on average. I recommed to run it empty (blinking light) before re-charging. Batteries last longer that way. With tanks/batteries/atomizers, you have to do little bit planning and handywork, but pretty soon it is part of your daily rutines. I have techical background, so tinkering is my second nature.

Two weeks ago, I bought 510 tank version. First mainly for tasting new liquids (smaller tanks), but I pretty soon noticed that flavor is better than with eGo (don't get me wrong, I still use eGo daily). Nowdays, I typically use combo (510 tank, atomizer and eGo battery) at home, where I know that I have juices readily available if tank goes empty. Full eGo set I use on the road.

About your questions. I'm tempted of mods aswell, so that's not unusual at all once you get hang of it.

Was the better vape likely from the eGo, from the liquid, or from the combination?
based on my experiences, I have to answer yes.

Is there a next step?
I'm pretty sure 510 will give your better flavor and eGo little less maintenance requiring device for tank filling perspective. As I said, combo is my goto e-cig.

Am I chasing an entirely new dragon?
Same dragon, but any day without real tobacco smoke is the better option of these two vices, I should say. You will notice it after couple of weeks when your body starts clencing.

Additionally, I'm thinking of going ahead and paying the higher prices at the brick and mortar. It would serve 2 purposes: 1) Instant gratification, 2) the guy really put in the work to sell me, and he did. I feel like he deserves the reward.
There's no harm in supporting small business. You're lucky, I have to order everyhing overseas. What comes to instant gratification, I say go for it and never look back for analogs.

I've decided on a course of action.

In the short term (the next week) - I'll go back to the brick and mortar and buy some of their juice, and possible an adapter, if he has cartomizers that I'll be able to use. If not, I'll wash out the 3 I've finished by then, and start using them with new juice. I am contemplating getting 5 or more brand new ones - depending on the answers I get from this post.

If I need to, I'll get another battery. But before then I'll have decide on another RN4081 or a 510 or K8. One thing the salesman said to me that has me wondering is that the RN4081 is on its way out. Form what I've read in the rn4081 forum, people who use them seem to like them very much. But also, there's not a lot of current activity in that forum. So, I guess I'm asking if I will be stuck and frustrated with the difficulty of acquiring parts and maintaining a rn4081 system. If so, I may go towards the 510, or K8. That'll be a future query, but if you want to proselytize, please, by all means preach away. I'll be listening.

Sometime by January (after the holidays have all shaken out) I'll either go hunting for a box mod or an ego to vape away with in the comfort of my own home. I don't think I'll be taking them out in public too often. I want a system that looks like an analog so I don't stand out too much in public. I've already begun holding my hand over the bright green LED that my starter has.

Thanks again for any advice. If anyone has any flavors to suggest, I'm game to try some out this week. I'll be looking forward to something nice to have after Thanksgiving dinner. I'm already looking forward to some boardgaming or sports/movie watching on Thursday, so any suggestions are welcome. I guess the B&M near me deals in Viking Vapor - so if you have a favorite under that label, I'd love to know.

Thanks for the support, folks! Newbs like me appreciate it.

You are. Enjoy it. ;)

If you found one aromatic you liked, you found one more than I did. I was very anti-aromatic, and only a few crossover blends ever made it into my pipes. I assumed the same thing you did - vaping would be tobacco only for me. Well, I don't really have any tobacco flavors around here. Caramel + Chocolate got me off tobacco. Vaping is very different.

As for the rest...

I went from a mall kiosk cig look-alike thing, to an eGo-T the next day from a B&M. About 2 months later I upgraded to a ProVari.

As to the higher prices at a B&M... I gladly pay it. I have never bought a juice I didn't like, because I get to sample it on the spot. If I need anything, they're there - now. No shipping delay. I see people come into the store all the time with something they bought cheaper on the 'net, wanting the store employees to help them with it. To me, that's just plain wrong. Guess some don't see it that way.

So is it a new dragon? Yup. But on the bright side... I have never seen a PV that has a price tag anywhere near resembling what I have paid for a pipe. So that counts for something, right?

Enjoy the ride :)

Just to clarify, you can use a 510 tank setup on an eGo, as well as eGo attys/cartos, as well as any 510 threaded accessories. I use 510 cartos, eGo cartos, and 510-T atty & tank with all of my eGos and eGo clones.

So, I've been confused all week.

Initially I thought what I had bought (Green Smart Living Starter Kit) was an RN4081 connector. Someone in another thread corrected me and told me it's a 510. I wrote an email to Green Smart Living customer service, and was told it's an RN4081. Then today, I walked into the local shop and the guy behind the counter is telling me it's a 510.

I'm going with 510.

Now, I'm going to boil out the empty cartos I've accrued, and fill them with the Bananas Foster and English Toffee juices I got tonight. Just curious - has anyone tried "drying" out parts by burying them in a tupperware filled with uncooked rice? It's supposed to help dry out cell phones when you drop them in water. And it supposedly works. I'm going to give it a shot. With these cartos.

Also - I bought what looks like an XL double coil cartomizer. It's longer than the ones I have. Can I use these with my starter batteries, or should I be using it with a bigger battery?

Thanks you once again, everyone.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
