I found this place a couple of weeks ago and thankfully am much better informed, able to spot excessively overpriced goods, and understand the major differences in models. So thank you for being in existence and remaining a strong community.

My vaping background:

  • Mom bought me and the Wife each a Cirrus WhiteCloud II starter set a year ago. Used a few times, but wife had the overfilled menthol carts and immediately quit using. I had poor vapor and throat hits, so quit using quickly too.
  • Tried the Fifty One DUO at the mall, was pretty impressed. Wife bought me a starter set for Christmas. Loved the throat hit, vapor, flavor (16MG menthol and 12MG Tabac).
  • Wife saw a friend with the generic manual 510 at a party. We both tried it, loved the hits and vapor. I bought her a set from our local smoke shop. (Much cheaper than the DUO and Whitecloud (note I still hadn't found this site yet). She has been using it for a month or so and really comfortable with it now.
  • Wife was given a Blu-Cig disposal in Vegas. She gave to me (non-menthol), and I loved it (mainly due to the PCC). Started researching the Blu-Cigs. (that's when I found ECF).
  • Thanks to ECF, I realized that all my previous purchases were overpriced variations of several "respected" models on here.
  • I also realized that through the various vendors, I can salvage and get a great experience from all the previous purchases, with accessories, cheaper batteries, carts, etc.
  • Yesterday I went and purchased a 510 for myself, extra batteries for the Wife, new juice, some empty carts, and two PCC's from the local smoke shop.
So we now have:

  • 2x 510's w/PCC and plenty of juice/carts.
  • 1x E9 (the DUO) - with a handful of carts in various state of use.
  • 2x KR808 (Cirrus) - one or two empty carts
Now for the questions:

  • 510's w/PCC are obviously great for going out and about. Is it recommended to just continue buying blank carts, or can someone recommend a good filler?
  • For the KR808's, I saw a statement somewhere about a passthrough to avoid carts...are there any brands to shy away from, or should I just troll the forums and make my own decision?
Thanks again! This site has been a blessing.

For 510 carts - when the white cart stuffing gets cranky try the precut blue foam stuffing for 510 from strictlyejuice.com (costs like 75 cents for 10?). I use blue foam in my carts.

And I recommend you try cartomizers on 510 too (replaces the atomizer and cart). I use Boge soft-cap cartomizers on my 510 (standard resistance, slim ecig batteries should never use LR low resistance accessories since they could damage the battery). Did you get manual batteries? Manuals are safer for refilling cartomizers since if a carto drips it will drip right on the drag sensor hole in the end of an auto battery. 510 manual batteries are totally sealed on the threaded end. Cartomizers are disposable but if you keep one damp you should be able to get 1-2 weeks use out of a Boge soft-cap (I do).

KR808D-1 still needs cartomizers when you use a passthrough. A passthrough is a fake wired battery that connect to a USB to AC adapter. It lets you vape without using up battery charge. They are for people who sit in one place a lot (like at a computer or in a truck) and don't want to be recharging batteries.

my two cents:

• you can restuff the carts with blue foam for better performance. You can buy it pre-cut like dormouse said or you can cut it yourself:

It looks like this <link> and you can buy it at any place that sells aquarium equipment. Here's how to do it: <link>

As for the 510 PCC, because of the way it loads you should be extra careful to keep the threads clean from where you screw on the atomizer (otherwise you'll gum up the connection and it's in a spot where it's not easy to clean).

Good luck!

Be sure to check out Vapor4Life's prefilled cartos (their model is KR808D-1). Their 25% off sale might still be on today - code SPRING25 - I bought some cartos and juice yesterday. The flavors all have reviews on them so read the reviews. My faves are WOWbacco (a very dark chocolate tobacco that I only notice chocolate, and their WOWBoy is the same w/ a bit of mint added). And I enjoy their WOW Vanilla sometimes - a sweet marchmallowy vanilla.

Life of a noob trying to hang in there.

I am a new convert. I tried a local "kit" a year or two ago and the local 7-11 xhale thing a year or so ago. Both lacked nicotine and throat hit.

Finally decided to get back into it and order a better starter kit from madvapes, a 510 + PCC + battery + 2x atty, 2x 30ml of 36mg juice and it all arrived five days ago.

It was OK from time to time. I would spend hours on end combing this forum. I read a lot and it was helpful. The throat hit wasn't there. Videos showed others getting good "smoke" but where was mine? With a fresh charge and fresh load of two or three drops on a cart, I might get one or two good drags. I am using 36mg juice. I had to make sure this was a good substitute for analogs.

But it just wasn't working quite well enough.

For a noob, this can be frustrating. Was it my battery? Did my cart wear out? Is the atomizer bad? How long should a cart last? How long should an atty last? Should I clean it in boiling vodka? Did I get a bad atty? Am I doing something wrong? Are my expectations too high?

I completely agree that my tastes will change over time, but let's face it, if I am going to try to stop using analogs, then this thing has to be as close to the analog as possible, at least for the first few weeks. I needed a good way to keep the cartridge loaded, because I won't use it if I have to perform what looks like a chemistry experiment on my desk at work every time I step out for a smoke.

OK, I tell myself, this is a problem with the cartridges. I need more "oomph." Today my order of Smart Carts arrive from gotvapes. Awesome! I am set now!

Maybe. I take the blunt needle on the provided bottle and while pushing through the fill, hear a snap and see a plastic piece floating in the bottom of the cart. Crap, I wasted one. No problem, I ordered five. Before I break another one, let me read the instructions. Umm, no instructions. Surely there will be instructions on the site where I ordered. Nope, only a picture of a syringe poking through the fill. I tried that again, but it wasn't working. OK, just pull the fill out, load the cart with juice then put the fill back. I have a loaded cart and am trying to take a drag. Before I know it, I have e-juice all over me, my 510, my bed and my hands. I have horrible heart burn from what must be ingested juice. The see-through window shows the tank is now empty.

Awesome.

Let's try youtube. I see lots of videos reviewing the Smart Cart and one even talking about the glue holding the fill. Crap, did I do something wrong by pulling out the fill? Is that why it leaked? Frantic, I came to this forum to try and find the magic thread that would answer all of my questions. The closest I got was a thread singing the praises of the Smart Cart and referencing a "high ping" mod.

What?

I read the mod. Finally, I have real throat hit. Real vapor. And I'm getting a little bit of a buzz from the nicotine. I would respond to the "high ping" thread, but the site won't let me yet. Kudos to you, highping.

Thank goodness for this forum. I cannot believe I am the first person ever to have these issues and these questions.

Good luck to all the noobs out there.

Welcome, Verdente, from another citizen of the 'dotte. Sounds like you are well on your way with the 510 PV's and accessories. Like many here, I started out with Blu, then an overpriced 808. Since my initial order had so many cartomizers, chargers, pcc's etc, we decided to stick with the 808. The standard batteries work well for the Mrs, as she is still a part-time vaper. I went full-time from day 1, so I wound up with a fat-bat 808 and some CE2XL cartos to make life a little easier.

I have a couple of 808 passthroughs, and have recently started using a 901 high-voltage debridged atomizer for dripping on them. Works great, and I don't have to burn a whole carto on any goofy juice samples/mixes. The next step for me is a Madvapes DIY box mod (C'mon Mr. Mailman!), just to be sure I don't save any $$ for at least another month or two.

You ever get in a jam and need juice, 808 stuff, etc.. PM me.

Cheers,

Otto
