Hi Vaperz, glad to have found this forum, tons of info!

I have been vaping on cigalikes for over a year, but couldn't get completely off analog, primarily cuz the battery wouldn't last more than a few hours, the hit wasn't consistent, leaking issues, and I had to keep refilling the tank all the time.

Hence, I decided to take a leap of faith, and just ordered a smok xcube 2 with TFV4 and a few pre-made coil heads. Leap of faith because I've never handled such a big box before, and am pretty noob with coils and ohms stuff... Still, I'm pretty excited, and willing to straighten the curve.

I chose over sigelei 150, even though it rocks in the looks department and the reviews are good overall, because the smok seems to have more options to experiment with when it comes to coils, the app factor, the firmware is upgradable, and the TFV4 has so many prebuilds.

I have two questions though:
1) Can I use kanthal A-1 26g for the dual coil RBA which I also got, or do I absolutely need nickel wire?
2) I smoke quite a bit, was using 18mg liquid with the eGos...what mg liquid should I go for with TFV4?

Any other pre-noob tips (haven't got the darn thing yet) are much welcome.

1: yes
2: depends on the wattage.
rule of thumb:
5 watts , 20mg
10 watts, 10mg
20 watts, 5mg
50 watts, 2mg

Thank you first responder (dunno why I can't your name on tapatalk), though 2mg seems way less.

Marina2, thank you for the welcome! I don't have money and patience to go through the prescribed process, and I also learn fast. I just hope what I get is good, coz then I'll have to troll for workarounds :)

I also learnt that ecigs are banned where I live (in Mumbai). I am told coz no one here got FDA approval, but I find something amiss coz it's okay in other states and FDA is a central authority.

The TFV4 is a subohm tank, so that means that it will produce a lot more vapor than the cigalikes you are used to. More vapor means that you will be getting more nicotine. When I started with cigalikes, I was vaping 24 mg juice. Once I started subohming, I went down to 6 mg, and now I am down to 3 mg juice.

As for the dual RBA, it is actually better for kanthal coils. If you use nickel coils for temperature control, because the resistance of nickel is so low, building a dual coil setup using just nickel wire will require such large coils that it might not even fit in the RBA, or the resistance will be so low that the resistance will be below your mod's minimum resistance. If you use titanium wire, you can build dual coils for that because the resistance for titanium wire is higher.

Bloody hell, Marina's right.

Sammy, you didn't just dive in... you bought one of the maybe 6 most insane tanks on the market, arguably the most. You'll probably need that rebuildable deck (yes, Kanthal for wattage mode, nickel and Titanium for temp control mode, Stainless for either if you have a SS mode or use it in Ti and drop the temp setting), because the heads for the IPV4 need, yes need 50 or 60 watts to start and up to 90 or 100 for some to really get cookin'. It's a lung buster.

You'll work up to using it (I hope) but much lower nic is advised. 6 would be good if you work your way up, then maybe even lower (it's gonna THROW vapor down your throat, don't even think about mouth-to-lung like your pens) but 3 may be advisable if, as I expect, you enthusiastically charge through the difficulties and just go for it. Lung buster, remember?

Maybe more importantly... get good batteries. Get very good batteries. They might be the most important "safety belt" we choose as high wattage vapers.

STRONG suggestions...
Samsung 25R
LG HE4
LG HG2

You shouldn't be needing more than 130 watts anytime real soon and any of those will handle it easily.
Please, please... stay away from the overpriced rewrapped Efest, anything with "Fire" in the name, etc.

There are NO 35A continuous rated 18650 batteries and only a couple of true 30A.
DO NOT BELIEVE OR RELY ON THE LIES PRINTED ON THE LABLES.

There are NO 35A, 40A etc. continuous discharge rated 18650 batteries. Period.
You'll learn later what you can use for higher wattages, just stay safe at the start.

That's enough for now.

Excellent. Now go explore the forum. Read, read, read. Ask questions.

And be careful with those factory coils. Extra priming time and don't get crazy too quick.
You can burn them and so far, they started pricey... and have stayed the most expensive heads out there.
$$$

Let us know how you like it... if you don't cough up a lung. :p

Yes, kanthal 24g 6 wraps 2.5 diameter, dual coils should put you at about .2 ohms. I recommend 6mg juice, that way you're getting your Nic in since you used a high level. Go for some 80/20 vg/pg juice and you'll be satisfied. I promise. Go 70-80 watts, that's my rule of thumb, I dunno where that other rule of thumb came from. Taste/wattages/ratios are ALL SUBJECTIVE. Experiment til you find what you like. The above scenario I told you about is MY PREFERENCE it may not be yours just like it.may not be many others, but it is what I use in my TFV4.
