Hello Everyone. I know a couple of you posted in my thread in the noob area, but I thought I should pop in and say hi.

I've been lurking on here for a good while, and figured it's time to start voicing some opinions (be warned ;) )

Life story:
I started smoking at age of 13. This was more of a rebellious thing than anything with my highly educated mother being the President of the Canadian Lung Association at the time. And of course I was hooked. I smoked around a pack a week through early highschool which increased to a pack a day for the past 17 or so years. I've tried to quit numerous times, and I have had relationships end because of my addiction. I was the only smoker in a strictly non-smoking family (So much so that my neices weren't allowed at my house)

A year or so ago a friend introduced me to e-cigaretts. I think he had a cheep unit from Green Smoke or something of the sort. I thought of it as a novelty at the time, and being a gadget freak I was interested. I continued to smoke through the rest of the year, but as I started doing more and more research into the subject I realized this could be my "way out".

December 2010 I purchased my first kit(s). A 510 /w PCC, and a KR8 with a whack of cartomizers. After 2 days of vaping I had cut down to 3 analogs a day. After day 5 I shelved them. I still have a half pack and fancy lighter in my spice cupboard collecting dust. I tried one drag of an analog a month later and it almost made me gag and haven't thought about smoking since. I can't believe I smoked SOOO many of those over the years.

My mother (M.Sc, B.Sc, B.Ed / Past president / lifetime member of the lung associaton) has had nothing but praise for vaping. I had to show her the science behind it, how they worked, what was in the liquid etc etc, but she's a believer, and is now recommending them to friends trying to quit. My brother and wife are bringing their kids over to the house more often, and I have to agree the place smells great now.

I've since moved up to an eGo-T system, and just yesterday received my Bloog form HV (Which is awesome BTW) and there's no looking back.

Anyhow, that's me. I'll be around asking / offering advise and suport when I can.

Happy vaping!:vapor:

Hi Eilithia and welcome.

I started smoking around 12. Not really smoking of course - I just got ahold of a pack of cigs with some friends and we were curious. After the first puff we thought the cig company got something wrong and accidentally put drugs in the tobacco - cause it made us all dizzy. I smoked a few dozen over the next couple years. Halfway through high school most of my class had started smoking. It was cool, it was fun, it was glamorous - and it seemed to make my high heels higher and my lipstick more cosmopolitan. So - yes - I picked up the habit - gladly and proudly.

Me and my friends - we babysat, shoveled walks, cut grass, took casual jobs - all to pay for cigarettes - and we hid it all from "moms and dads".

By the time I got to college only a few classmates smoked. It was expensive. Yes, still a bit cool - but not for every budget.

By the time I got to University - the situation change. A handful of smokers gathered around the entrance of our department and smoked outside. It wasn't cool. It stunk. We stunk. We were always looking for a few moments to run outside and have a puff. Our social lives suffered. We were distracted by our habit. We always had to stand downwind from the rest.

In the working world - I stood alone - outside - puffing away - trying to remember why I ever started. I carried breath mints, body spray, perfume, mouthwash and a pack of nicorettes for long meetings or flights or any other time and place that cigarettes were forbidden.

I quit (yes He was worth it - at the time). I started again (we didn't last). I quit again (just felt right). I started again (someone riled me). ...and on and on and on.

I think we all have a similar story.

...I hope our stories all have a happy ending.

Hi there. I first starting smoking when I was about 15 years old or so. Not a pack a day, I would steal smokes from my mother's indian cigarette bags. A couple at a time. She never noticed. I was smoking a pack a day when I was 19. I also regret ever starting. I wish I could go back in time and give myself a swift kick in the you know what ;)

I stopped smoking once 2 yrs ago with a "NJOY NPRO" that I bought when travelling in the USA. I quit for 3 months. I was very proud of myself. One day, it broke down, and I did not know I could buy kits in Canada so guess what. I started again.
Now, on May 23rd, I received my new kit. A Joye 510. I have not touched a cigarette since. Since the start, I used 0mg Nicotine E-Liquid Peppermint. Since its Peppermint, it has a certain harshness, so 0mg was not so bad. I eventually bought a pack of Nicorette gum 4mg in case of emergencies. No problems up to now. Still Vapin' :)

Amazing story = Amazing you! I am so proud! Wow, to have a mom in the lung association, she must have been just livid over your smoking habit. but who cares, u quit, and that is all that matters. So glad to know your family is finally coming around. I actually was supposed to be admitted into hospital in Dec of 2010 and when I found out there was no smoking on the grounds, and that they had those nic inhalers, I declined care. Can you believe it, how smoking was the prime factor on my life decisions. I was at the point if there was no smoking allowed, I wouldn't go. Now I can go anywhere, anytime and finally enjoy my life. I felt super duper guilty too for my dogs. They had to inhale that 2nd hand smoke and I feared they would get cancer or worse. Knock on wood so far everyone is ok. But the failed relationship part I can completely understand that too. Or to even find someone that will put up with it is hard. I am finding more and more people that are non smokers these days. I have even met a couple of vapers finally in my province!

So glad you are here! Can't wait to hear your advice and knowledge!!

Welcome to ECF Eileithia - it sounds like you mom is a highly influential lady in the Canadian health scene so its good to hear that she has a positive view of vaping and she is 'on-side'. :vapor:

Yes, my mom is still an honourary lifetime member of the Lung Association, but doesn't have any direct dealings with them any longer (unfortunately). She actually got out because of the burocracy in the upper levels of the organization. It sounded like there was a lot of internal politics. Granted this was many years ago, so who knows what it's like now.

She is still a health fanatic. She specializes in Human Kenetics and Rehabilitation (mostly post injury rehab) and is typically a keynote speaker at a number of international conferences on health, exercise and rehabilitation.

I'll have to ask her if she still has any "good" contacts left at the lung association and see if they'd be willing to do some studies. Long shot, but who knows, it may help our cause.

Hi Eileithia,

Thank goodness your mom's not the president of PETA ;)

I tried smoking off and on as a kid, someone would sneak a smoke from their mum and we'd all puff and cough. I started really smoking at 14 after a cute girl offered me one. I'm sure if she offered me weasel poop, I would have taken that too.

I did quit for 10 years after going cold turkey, but a few cigars and a divorce later I was back to a pack a day.

In came e-cigs and it's been great. This place is a hoot also. Pop by the Outside sometime, it's always good to have Canadian perspectives.

Congratulations!! Maybe your mother can be an advocate for e-cigs in Canada. You NEED people like her. Health Canada have banned nic juice!! Millions of Canadian smokers are being denied this life-saver. Your mother could really help change this. The lung association must surely have some influence in policy making. This is really serious.
