Hi ECF,

I've been smoking Marlboro reds for 16 years, but the last 2-3 years I have started to smoke a lot more than I have in the past. I am around 2 packs a week (in the past, 1 pack a week). My cousin has sent me some of his older gear. I know it is not the best, but for a full time student like myself, I hope it works fine.

He sent my one that looks like a pen, it says, joytech ego-t and something twisted on called mini bcc. The other thing he sent me is a rsst rba (still learning exactly what that is).

he recommended that I start with the joytech first. I was hoping that some of you could help a beginner out, because I am completely overwhelmed with all the information.

1. I like the ego T because it looks pretty pocket friendly, but when the mini bcc goes bad, do I replace the entire thing? Also how do you know for sure when it goes bad? is it a power thing or a taste thing? When it does go bad, do you recommend I stick with it, or get a different piece that is not the mini bcc.

2. I hear a lot of people on this forum talk about FT (fasttech) for some affordable (which is good for me) products, but I also hear people say VB. What store is VB, and I assume they are like another Chinese company like FT, right?

3. are their any videos that would explain more about vaping for a complete beginner like me? I've read a lot of FAQs, but sometimes it doesn't answer my questions. for ex: the faq I looked at said, rda = rebuildable dripping atomizer. that's nice that I know what RDA stands for, but it didn't explain what it does.

sorry for the wall of text.

edit: I live in garden grove, Ca. If there is anyone in my area, please recommend some shops that are beginner friendly and not too expensive. thank you

I'd recommend jumping over to Youtube and looking at videos on the RSST, possibly the mini, too. Not familiar with mini. There's a ton of really super helpful and friendly people here. Youtube is a great source for the visual aspect. Anything from Pbusardo, GrimmGreen or Rip Trippers on youtube is pretty detailed. Even about your battery, for that matter. Good luck and welcome!

Joyetech makes some very good gear. The eGo is one of the best beginner personal vaporizers. RBA means rebuild-able atomizer. I wouldn't advise a beginner to try that, just yet. You need at least two batteries, preferably more. There are lots of sales this weekend, scroll down the main page and look for the Black Friday thread. My Freedom Smokes has 17% off everything, plus free shipping. Other vendors have sales just as good, and some better. You could pick up an eGo Twist battery, which will allow you to change the voltage. The Aspire BDCC tank is pretty good, or you might try some cartomizers. Don't forget, you'll also need more liquid.

if you are in the hollywood area, check out vapor star lounge, they have many beginner kits that are the most affordable i have seen to date! it definetly helps to go to a vape shop to test out products, ask questions and tinker with them a little. joyetech brand is always reliable and works great for a first time battery, but theres others you can look at as well.

garden grove, he said....a long trek up the 5 to get to Hollyweird. he is in OC. Id have to think that there are lots of vape stores in Orange County tho. there is lots of everything in OC :p

Your mini bcc won't go bad like blow up or stop working. The coil in it will just wear out. If the juice starts to taste weird or burnt when it didn't before at the same settings, then it's time to replace the coil. You can just buy replacement coils. Depending on how much you use it, the coils should last for a couple of weeks each.

You can call around your local B&Ms to see if they sell mini BCC coils. Those aren't quite as common as Protanks or iClears so not all stores will carry coils for them. Or you can order them online.

There are tons of B&Ms all over OC. I found 8 in Garden Grove just with a quick Yelp search(just search for "vape"). I find that B&Ms are great places to find a juice that you like. I'd really recommend visiting one to sample juices and also to get some newbie tips. All the ones I've been to in SoCal have been very friendly and helpful and I've yet to encounter any that tried to push gear on me that I didn't need.

Welcome bud, I am at 20 days without a Marlboro after smoking them for about as long as you. Smoked Winston's and Camels prior to the switch to Marlb's. I still have 3/4s of a pack that has been sitting on my entry shelf unsmoked. OC has tons of shops. I have only visited 2, I got lucky and found some helpful, friendly people about a block away. VAP (Bristol & 405) helped me a couple months ago when I was experimenting and has been great when I decided it was time to kick my carton a week habit. I would absolutely recommend them but I'm sure you can find someone closer if you wanted. Check out some shops, test some new juices, and find some folks you like and trust to help you with new gear/coils etc.

thank you to everyone for all the help, I really do appreciate it. the pbsardo video helped a lot. from the research that I have done, it seems that vaping is done the same way right? what I mean is that, every e-cig has an atomizer, coil, and wick to create the vapor. what I don't understand is what makes one way better than another? is the only difference between a RDA and RBA is one is a dripper and one has a tank?

is flavor affected by the atomizer, or only affected by the pg/vg content? Sorry if this does not make sense, English is not my native language.

Edit: I made a few orders from mt baker vapors and high desert vapes, to be honest it was mostly due to price and with the discounts I felt that it was affordable and fit my budget. I made a mistake though because I just realized that they recommend that you steep the juice.

are there any other juice companies that are in the same price range that do not require steeping?

just curious, the mini bcc on the ego doesn't have much flavor. I tried the juice that my cousin sent me, and I also tried some juice at my local shop, but the flavor is very very faint. is this due to the ego, or the mini bcc?

is there a clearomizer that would look ok with the ego, but improve the flavors?

also I had 2 analogs this week which is pretty good for me. I think I can be completely off analogs if I could get better flavor.

thanks

Well done on making the choice to stop smoking stinkies.
That was my main reason to start vaping.
I enjoyed each and every cigarette, but was so tired of smelling likel a ashtray all the time.
It has been 2 weeks now since I bought my Evod BCC and I have not had one cigarette in that time.
Still have half a carton in the cupboard, but not interested at all.
Still playing around with flavors, but just love the vanilla and mint.

Laguna Beach shouldnt be to far from you right? 30mins or so?

Ecig city is a pretty nice shop, have your starters and basics...and plenty of fancy mods n such to check out. They are a registered vender here too..thread in the suppliers forum :)

not too far at all. i am willing to drive as long as the customer service is good and they don't mind answering a lot of questions. I was at a local shop and they seemed to get annoyed a little because I was asking too many questions.

Bizzy, congratulations for starting the journey away from cigs - a decision you'll never regret!! I'm fairly new myself so don't have all the answers, by far. As for the taste, when I began I thought the juice flavors were too faint as well - and some of that was just by own sense of taste, I think - cigs depress the ability to taste and smell (both of which are factors). After about 2 weeks there has been more flavor. Too, some juices need to steep, as you already noted - not all though, so when your order arrives, you might check the taste - some will be fine, others probably not for a while. I also notice, usually, better flavor a few hours after I've filled a clearomizer/cartomizer - just takes some time for the wicks to get good and saturated, I think.

Good luck!

I also use ego type batteries, and I use clearomizers, mostly iClear 16s. You can cheaply replace the coils/wicks on those.
