Hello there everyone...

New vaper here. Just started vaping for about a week.

I'm actually a nicotine junkie, trying to stop, by switching to vape. I was puffing 3 packs/day before started to vape. Now I'm cutting back quite immensely, about 1 pack/3-4 days. There are times when I still gotta go analog, i.e. after eating (especially spicy foods), 'cleaning the bowel' in the morning, etc.

I registered in this forum to ask a question, but the SOP required me to post here first, so I'll ask here.

So my logic says that I'd experience some symptoms during the transition period from analogs to vaping. Well, what I'm experiencing now goes a bit beyond my expectation, to be honest. Now I'm experiencing:

- anxiety/bad mood/grouchy
- kinda sleepy/drowsy all day long
- when I try to sleep it off, can't sleep well, not soundly. A bit insomniac
- brain can't seem to 'run at full speed'. This really impacts my job, actually.
- feels tired all day long, like after doing some sports. Might be because of not having a good sleep
- increased gas production, the burping kind. Sometimes I even feels like I'm gonna vomit (but never really vomited)
- extra thirsty
- extra sweating

What exactly am I experiencing? Is it nicotine drawback? Or is it overdose?

For a bit of math:
- My 'dose' in the past was 3 packs/day (12 sticks/pack), rated at 1mg nicotine
- The liquid I'm using now is a 12mg nicotine liquid
- I'm using a 7ml tank, but I never waited until completely empty to refill. So let's just say 5ml tank. I'm vaping at around 3 tanks/day

Thank you in advance.

I'm not sure how the math works out but in general you should know our bodies absorb the nicotine differently from cigarettes vs vaping.
What you're experiencing sounds like nicotine withdrawal to be honest, I have a lot of those effects when I quit smoking.
I seem to be alright this time around. I started with 24mg juice and I'm already down to 18mg...

That being said. Mad insomnia tonight. It's quarter after 3 my time.

Two things come to mind about your symptoms - dehydration and nic withdrawl. You might want to start drinking an additional two liters of water a day, as vaping can dehydrate you. You may also want to up your nic level, given your symptoms and somewhat high liquid consumption. Good luck!

Have you increased your water intake since you started vaping? Vaping tends to dehydrate the body. Between the dry California heat, air conditioning in the summer, furnace in winter (yes, it does get cold enough to turn on the heat in winter, especially at night) and vaping, my daughter and I are rarely seen without water, juice, Koolaid, etc. nearby in easy reach.

We won't talk insomnia. It's almost 3:30 am here. Of course, I'm 65, and retired, so I can catnap pretty much any time I want. It does not help tonight that my grandchild, who has autism, has sleep-related issues that can go with autism, and is wide awake as well. Lots of stress in the household at this point in time, he's feeling it, and my job at the moment is to see that he does not wake his Mom, since she has to go to work in a few hours. I'm chain vaping, cruising ECF, encouraging the kid to get some sleep, etc. In other words, situation normal.

Hi C4ppunico and welcome to the forum. I have these links that may have some info on your health issues.

HEALTH QUITTING Health, Safety and Vaping | E-Cigarette Forum

A list of symptoms when quitting tobacco and changing to an ecigarette | E-Cigarette Forum

I have had the insomnia to a small degree. The manner I solved it was to get a lower nicotine e juice and vape it in the hours before bed. Worked like a charm for me. Getting a good nights sleep is an adjustment for some when first starting to vape.

As to the nicotine adjustment/quitting the cigs... I kept a cheap clearomizer with just a little higher nic in it for those times that vape couldn't scratch the "itch". I would hit it once, then go back to the normal (12 mg in your case) vape and it usually took 3 days and I didn't need the higher anymore. I said "usually" because I used this same method when I went to reduce my nic level in steps (down to 3mg or less). I wanted to reduce my nic so the hold of the analogs never grabbed me again.

I dual used for 12 days before I found my stride in vape and the cigs were gone. Was it perfectly easy? No, but 3 days after going 100% vape it was the easiest manner to quit the cigs I had ever tried and one of the best decisions in my life.

Everything gets better when you switch from cigs to vape. You can do it.

Good luck.

sounds ohh so familiar... you are experiencing "The Purge"... your body has seen a drop off in the toxins and now sees it as a chance to clean up the mess... along with what you mentioned above, I also developed a messy rash on my back. I thought it was the medication I was on at the time ( one of those your not supposed to be in the sun with) but it turned out to be the toxins being exuded while sweating profusely while working in the sun.

doing 12-18 nic levels may not be enuf since you were doing 3 PAD... next time you order juice try a bottle of 36nic and see if that quells the grumpyness...

good luck to ya... dont give up the vape :)

15mil a day? That is a lot, especially if subohming - let us know what device you're using!

Also, I had most of those symptoms too - probably most of us go through something similar. The dehydration is because of the PG in the juice - drink more water!

By week 3 (give or take a few days) most of my symptoms were gone or nearly gone, so hang in there.

Upping the nic during the day might be a good idea - 36 might be too big of a jump tho? Try 18 or 24, or if you do buy 36 be prepared to dilute it if necessary.

Lower nic before bedtime is also a good suggestion.

Hello, and thank you everyone for your awesome answers. Too much for me to quote all.

Thank you for the links. I'll be sure to read them later. So sleep problems are to be expected during the transition then? As of lately, after vaping, I'm a light sleeper. Sounds as discrete as a (normal) car passing by is enough to wake me up. It didn't bother me before vaping (still on analog)

I'm using Kanger subtank 7ml, but changed the pre-installed 0.5 ohms coil to the included 1.2 ohms. Using kbox, set to 20W. Not a cloud chaser, I'm smoking/vaping to satisfy the nic addiction :) So 15ml/day is a bit too much? What 'dose' would you say is normal? I want to set it as the next cut down goal.

I'll see if I can get my hands on some higher nic juices to try out. I got a few friends vaping, and they might have higher ones.

'The purge' theory is interesting. So this symptoms might be from my body doing house cleaning? I do notice 1 more symptoms, but forgot to write it. My urine got a little smelly, like chemical stuff kind of smell. It was also smelly when I did too much analogs in the past, but that was kinda burnt smell (hard to describe). So this is a good thing then? I was afraid that the symptoms are a bad thing, and instead of getting better, it will get worse in the future...

Again thank you all for your great answers

The amount of juice you vape is subjective -- 15ml seems a little high to me, but not high enough to freak me out LOL Don't worry about it.

When I first quit cigs, I chain vaped like a mad woman - desperately trying to fill the void from the cigs (who knows what all we are quitting besides the nic and tar - lots of chemicals in those things!)

Eventually the cravings subsided and I don't vape near as much now, altho I still LOVE vaping, and will chain vape when I'm stressed out.

If you go any higher on the nic level you will probably puke. Try higher pg levels for a better throat hit. People that sub ohm use lower nic levels. Your getting a huge hit even though. your not cloud chasing. I would try .8 or .6 for sub ohm. I was using 1.8 with one of those pen deals. when i got my kanger sub tank that level made me sick. So i tried 1.2 and that was still strong. Now im at .6 and no matter how much i vape i dont get a headache or feel sick. {MODERATED}

Yes, 12mg nic with subohming is a lot. I suggest two setups. You need two anyway in case you have a problem. No vape means you will smoke. Put the 12mg in one for morning, after meals and other smoking triggers. Put 6mg nic in the other and try to use that most of the day, and especially in the evening.

Drink water all day.

What battery and tank devices are you using specifically? Brand name & model? If already stated I missed it.

If you smoked 3 ppd you'll definitely be having nicotine withdrawal symptoms. You're also withdrawing from all the additional toxins and chemicals present in tobacco smoke.

As others have said, make sure you increase your water intake. This will help your body purge the toxins present in your body. In addition, the Pg and Vg in e-liquid draws moisture from your mouth and lungs, so that must be replaced to prevent mild dehydration.

Depending upon the juice delivery device you are using, 12 mg nicotine may not be enough. Nic doseage should be individualized, but generally speaking the following is recommended:

2 packs per day = 24 mg nic
1 1/2 ppd = 18 mg
1 ppd = 12 mg
1/2 ppd = 6 mg

Symptoms of nic overdose are headache, dizziness, nausea, nervousness. Similar symptoms to caffeine overdose.

Thank you for the additional answers.

Although I'm using a subtank, I'm using the included 1.2 ohms coil, not the pre-installed 0.5 ohms.

I'm using kanger subtank plus 7ml tank + kbox set to 20 watt, with 1.2 ohms coil.

I've had experiences of caffeine overdose a few times, but that was nothing like what I'm experiencing now. Caffeine overdose is actually a good feeling for me, light headed but full of energies. What I'm feeling now is a bit of the opposite. Like my energies been sucked out, and I just wanna lay down lazy all day doing nothing. Wanna sleep, but can't sleep well (light sleep)

I believe he is using a sub ohm atty so wouldnt the numbers be lower. Those figures worked for me using 1.2 ohm coils on a kanger emow. After going sub ohm 1.8 nic was too strong. I started on 2.4 on .6 and going to try .3 next yee haw.

Hiya all. Just wanted to report back.

The re-hydration trick worked wonder!! I was prepared, if nothing worked, I might have to go back huffing and puffing analogs to cure these symptoms.

Well, last night I went and bought a couple of those vitamin C and electrolytes water, chugged them down along with plain water, and it really helped. The most noticeable was I 'got my brain back'. I could think and do my jobs. Two days ago, I couldn't make north from south in my job, my brain just couldn't function as usual.

It didn't remove all of the symptoms, I still got a lazy feeling, but the amount was nothing compared to before.

I talked to a friend, and he said, there's also a probability that it's because of the juice I'm vaping is of low quality or badly mixed. I got my juice for free/as a bonus, when I bought the vaporizer set. He said he'll give me his old juices to try them out and see if any of them will help with the symptoms.
