Hi welcome! I am all new to this as well but I'll try my best to help you out...hopefully others can come and chime in as well.
First of all, what are your needs? Would you want something with longer battery life or something that looks/feels very similar to an analog cigarette (your traditional smelly cigarette lol)? Honestly, I think the only way to know what you really want/need is to try them out first.

SO, if you're looking for a e-cig with high battery life look at the Joye EGO/Riva which can be found here: Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Joye eGo Those are 510 threaded, which is the most popular since a LOT of other accessories/atomizers/cartomizers will fit the 510 threads.

Another option is if you are looking for a more analog (skinnier) look for your ecig: Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Electronic Cigarettes | Wholesale Electronic Cigarettes | E-Cigarette | Best Electronic Cigarette | Electronic Cigarette
The volt is a revamped kr808 which is basically a two piece system (cartomizer + battery) and has 808 threads (510 accessories can NOT fit 808 threads and vice versa, but they DO make adapters to make them work together).

Now, you will also want to be familiar with the differences between what an atomizer is and a cartomizer.
An atomizer is usually included in a 3 piece system (i.e. EGO). A cartridge, atomizer, and battery. The cartridge is what holds your e-liquid which is what's actually being vaped. This cartridge is refillable and hooks up to the atomizer which heats up the liquid.
On the other hand, a cartomizer has both the cartridge and atomizer all in one. So it is usually part of a 2 piece system (i.e. the volt or bloog's maxxfusion). Most people choose the cartomizer design for their ease of use compared to a 3 piece atomizer design.
Also, I suggest you watch steeljan's videos on youtube...very entertaining AND helpful! Here's her take on the ego (3 piece) vs volt (2 piece): http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...en-they-update-stock-today-3.html#post3432182

I know this is a lot of info to take in...but there's a LOT of other information out there. What I told you is JUST the basics and what most people start out with. There's things like low resistance atomizers, drip tips, passthroughs etc etc! In the end, just have FUN and be glad that you're on your way to an analog and smoke-free lifestyle! Get whatever you think will be comfortable for you to use. Eventually you will probably upgrade from your first e-cig kit, looking for ways to improve flavor, throat hit, vapor production! I personally will be starting out with the Volt kit from smokeless image since I've heard nothing but great things about the kit (a few reviews on youtube as well as here on ECF).

I hope this was helpful for you and wasn't TOO MUCH information to handle lol. Like I said, I hope others can come in and give their advice as well.

Look for the New Members Sticky Thread with Library in its title and follow that to a multipart illustrated guide to vaping and some models. Ignore the super-minis - those are the kind of ecigs that 95% of the time only keep someone happy for 3 weeks.

So your choice is

1. minis - slim with very short to short battery life, and the most popular are manual Joye 510/Joye 510 mega xl and manual KR808D-1/Vapor4Life (autos are easier to kill or damage with juice leaks, can turn on accidentally from wind or vibration, are actually more work with less control of your hit). 510 manual is sealed better, comes as a 3-piece, can be used as a 2-piece with blank cartomizers. KR808D-1 comes as a 2-piece, has lots of prefilled cartomizers and a decent selection of blanks, can use atomizers of other models (mostly with adapters)

2. Fat battery versions like Ego, Riva and others - long charge life, use the same attachments as #1 but also can use hotter LR (low resistance) attachments

3. Mods - long-charge units of various non-slim shapes with industrial aa-ish size strong batteries that are removed for charging. These include variable voltage models, high voltage (I do not recommend high voltage as your first ecig), and models with built-in juice bottles

And note - unless you are rich and can throw prefilled cartos away every day, you need eliquid - lots of eliquid. Prefilled is only a small convenience (and not even that if you don't like that flavor). Both blanks and prefills need eliquid for continued use. A cart of a 3-piece can be used, reused, washed, restuffed, resued more etc. A cartomizer has a limited life since they have an internal heating coil, the stuffing cannot be changed and they are hard to clean and meant to be disposable - if kept damp you may get 4-14 days use or more out of a carto. Cartos hold at least 2x the liquid of a cart, need liquid less often, and in general give a more steady vaping experience. They also keep your flavors totally separate from each other - no shared atomizer. But they are not good for testing new juices - use atomizer and cart (or drip tip w/ manual batteries) for that.
