Hi Everyone,

My name is Nicole.

Although I have smoked real tobacco cigarettes for a few years, I've never been an active smoker, turns out however that it was enough to damage my respiratory system. Can't get rid of the annoying cough I have!!! :(

Although I haven't touched a real cigarette for a while, every now and then I do give an odd e-cig a try. I miss the habit too much to stop vaping completely.

Does anyone here have a bad cough and still uses e-cigs? I've had it for a while now so can categorise it as chronic cough, yet it does worry me a little.

GP's in the UK have turned out to be useless so thought that I ask here.

Thanks a bunch.

Hi Nicole, and welcome.

In my 5th week of vaping, I came down with a nasty chest cold. I hadn't had a cigarette in - well, 5 weeks or so - and what I noticed immediately was that my cough wasn't NEARLY as bad as it had been when I smoked with a chest cold. I was hardly able to smoke at all when I was sick as it would make my cough 3 times as bad as it was on its on, but I found that I was able to vape (in moderation, mind you) without making it too much worse.

I'm no doctor, and I'm quite sure that vaping won't help with a nasty cough, but I honestly don't think it poses a significant health risk as long as you don't overdo it. I'd say go by feel. If you try vaping and it makes your cough worse, then lay off for a while until you improve.

I hope you feel better soon!

Hello and welcome to ECF. Most all of us had a chronic smokers cough when we first started vaping. In my case it took approximately 6 months to rid my system of the irritants and toxins which had built up in my lungs and respiratory tract. I had been a pack a day smoker for over 25 years, then dropped down to a 1/2 pack for an 7 additional years.

32 years of smoking had taken its toll, but your situation is quite different, and you would likely not need so long a recovery time. I would suggest you give it a few month, no smoking, and see if that persistent cough goes away. And, if you haven't done so already, you might want to see your personal physician about it.

Nice to meet you. :)

Thank you so much for sharing your experience CKCalmer. In my case cough came to me when I quick real tobacco and although I haven't been vaping regularly I still cough every day.

Cough comes to me as soon as I wake up and start my usual daily activities. I also feel that sometimes when I am breathing, it is irritating my throat which ultimately forces me to cough. The more I cough the more I keep coughing. If I try not to cough, irritation eventually calms down but not for long.

When I went to see a GP, he said that it could be the stomach acid, yet there's no real cure for it a pert of using some pills that only help while you're on them.

Anyway, thanks again. :)

I'll see what others say.
