Hello ECF!!

Newbie from MA here just saying hello! Just got my 1st mech mod this past weekend and will finally be building it today! Though.. my fresh order of juice won't get here until tomorrow! Why Labor Day why?!?!

Anyways.. I have a little question. I understand the whole cloud chasing thing but does sub ohm vaping get too hot to vape without burning yourself? I understand why vapers drill holes in their rda/RBAs but still sounds like that would be too hot to inhale? It seems like it would be impossible on a mech mod where you have no control of the discharge from the battery. Am I wrong?

Just a curious newbie question. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, GeckoGirl! I use mechanical mods with top and bottom fed drippers and run them in the .5 - .7 ohm range. Coils built in the subohm range definitely develop heat which can transfer to your drip tip if used a lot. The vapor itself will be warmer but not too hot to vape in my experience. Just make certain you are up on ohms law and battery safety. At .5 ohms with a 4.2volt battery, I am vaping at about 8-9 amps at over 30watts. My batteries have a discharge rating of 30 amps, so I'm safe. I use either delrin or insulated metal drip tips to keep my lips from getting burned from excessive heat transfer. Be safe and have fun!

Greetings from Maine, GeckoGirl.

:)

Lots of people love sub-ohming, of course, but nobody says you have to do it just because you're using mechanicals and RBAs. The great thing about building coils yourself is that you have options.

I'm quite happy between 1.2 and 1.7, for example. With my favorite drippers, this range delivers exactly the taste I, personally, like best. You may find that you like much higher or much lower resistances - who can say? You never know till you try!

Thank you everyone! I am very new to vaping! I am not going to try anything sub ohm yet because I don't have what I feel is enough understanding of it and my boyfriend keeps making sure to tell me to not blow my face off! I have been using a ego style ecig and am just starting to make the jump to mech mods and RBAs. It's hard to not want to jump right in but I am taking it slow.. though my plastic tank is leaky and drives me crazy. I am excited to use some control and hopefully gain a better vape!

What kind of equipment do you have to build your own coils? Before you even begin to build that RDA, you need to have an understanding of ohms law and read up on battery safety, Baditude has an excellent blog on battery safety here on the forum. At the minimum you need a resistance checker to check your build, be sure to check your build with the top cap on your atty. Bad things can happen with a mech mod if you have a short in your circuit. Study up and be careful.

No worries folks, i have read through these forums like a banshee! I built my 1st deck today! Authentic Kraken with a Stingray X clone running 1.9 ohms (28 ga kanthal with a 250 SS wick) on a 18350 efest, 700 mAh. What a difference!! It's the first time I've gotten a nic buzz vaping and I'm only vaping 11 mg! (Vape Dudes nutty capachino yum!)

Makes me wonder how anyone could smoke analogues anymore!

LOL! What a difference a good set up and juice makes, right? Thanks for taking the time to read & make sure you were doing things right (safely!). I worry about those who jump in without learning about it first. Congrats and happy vaping! :vapor:
