I'm about a month into my vaping experience and loving it. Been reading on this forum and found it very informative and too good to not participate.
Here's a little timeline on how I got here:
1984-2004 Smokeless tobacco user
1987-1992 Cigarettes
1991-2014 Pipes and Tobacco
Basically I've loved nicotine most of my life. Early on I was able to curb myself from the higher risk delivery systems. For the last decade or so I became involved in the pipe hobby; collecting and smoking pipes and premium tobaccos. While I took care to not deliberately inhale the smoke from my pipes it still happened and it always bothered me as well as the other side effects of living with tobacco smoke like odors, ashes and burn holes. Lately I noticed people around me -friends and family who have turned to the vaporizer so I decided to give it a try.
I've been off my pipes now completely and not missing them at all. I've found my APVs to be much more convenient and just as satisfying as the pipes and tobacco. Pipe smoking without inhaling drastically slows down the intake of nicotine because it has to pass through the oral membranes instead of the larger and quicker doses through direct to lung hits. I use my APV the same way just puffing away enjoying the flavor with only the occasional mouth to lung hit.
Like most things I decide to do I've jumped in with both feet and while I don't have much experience with vaping I think I can already classify myself as a "flavor chaser". Because of my hobby in amateur radio (W8MDE) I am already familiar with electronics and coils and same as other builders I find winding my own coils and experimenting to be very satisfying. My avatar pic is my fourth coil. It's a twisted 30 gauge 5/64" (2mm) coil that checks out at 1.4 ohms.
I got started with an Aspire Nautilus Mini on a spinner battery then quickly progressed to a mechanical mod -SMPL with a Loki Labs Odin RDA. I like the RDA for sampling different juices. My daily driver is the Subtank Mini on a Hana Modz DNA-40. The STM is an amazing little tank! With the .5 ohm rebuildable coil in it the taste is as good as my dripper.
I think my story is rather ordinary compared to the many successes that have been had by members here giving up the analogs. I think that is the greatest thing about this new technology -How it has helped so many people when nothing else had. Congrats to you and good luck to any others thinking of making the leap. Do it! I don't think you'll regret it.
