Hi there,

So.. anyway...... phew!..... just popping up for air.....

been wading through the absolute MOUNTAIN of info for the new 'vapererer...'

I feel deluged let me tell you.

must admit I still feeling overwhelmed trying to absorb all this stuff from a cold start about 2 weeks ago; still been religiously watching Nick GrimmGreen and Scott igetcha vids and learning a heluva lot thanks guys for that! plus many many MANY others who are doing reviews/guides/101's/tips etcetcetc... but WOW there's a LOT to take in!!

so I'm at the point where I'm trying to narrow down my initial purchase options (not there yet, but getting closer).

thing is, I know me - I will quickly be moving to the higher end stuff sooner rather than later; that's the way I am with anything I get involved with, so in my (not very distant) future there will be at least one copper mod (I really like the cute new tiny one, but the Q would be there for my UNDOUBTED move to 6V!), plus I have already been in contact with Fono re a Phidius (they're beautiful pieces, and I love that they are crafted by a master and, to crown it all, in Golden Section proportion! (that floats my boat).

I've spent hours and hours consuming vid reviews on all these mods, and these two stand out (aesthetically at any rate) for me, and that is very important to me.

Having said all that, I want to make my first buys from the 'standard' department. So.....

My head is spinning with all these options (and I haven't even begun to think about e-liquid yet, other than I'll be going for UK/US made ones).

so I'm thinking... 510 kit (joye best I think) with PCC, but also I'd like a KR808D-1 kit (both I've seen with manual batteries), and then there's the penstyle (I really like the look of these; it seems the DSE 801 is best option here, although the M201 seems good, it would be less "cross-compatible" I think; but then I start thinking about the cheaper (but still good) box mods that aren't that much more money than these...... for 5V use possibly (although I obviously haven't tried yet, seems this is a preference for many people)... then I consider I should also have a DSE901 kit of some sort...
then there's the inevitable passthroughs (probably go for the DSE801 for this, although HV 501 might be good... both? .... probably!

basically, what it boils down to is that I want to try as many vaping experiences and configurations as I can. This would be for 2 main reasons - first, so I have a few bits of equipment for a variety of situations and second because that's the way I am - I need to know! I don't want to miss anything....

Listen, I know I don't need to buy everything all at once, and I won't, but I think I'm going to end up with a fair bit of kit (like alot of you I guess!), just.. well... probably in a shorter period of time.

I should mention that another thing I have is that I HATE visible branding/logos on anything, so that (usefully in fact) narrows my options somewhat as far as choices go; many if not most of the regular type of e-cigs seem to have something daubed on them, which bothers me (go figure!)

even the 'A' on the bottom of the new ultramax would bug me I think!

(one of the reasons I love the look of the Copper Mods; simple, mechanical, no branding...)

I am aware by the way that I am waffling a bit here, so apologies!

I would like to find a UK seller that stocks, for example, the DSE801 (I haven't found one yet)..

will head to the UK forum after this and post q's there.

Another point I should make is that I currently smoke very strong rolling tobacco (dark Gauloises), which is pretty much the most hard-core you can get with real ciggies I believe, so this is one reason I Just now I will be a high voltage/extra high strength liquid kind of guy; at least to begin with.

Anyway, I open to any further help anybody might feel like offering, and thank you everybody here and all over the internet it seems for all the TON of info that you are providing for the likes of me.... really really appreciate it (even if it feels completely overwhelming sometimes!)

off now....

(I'm going to enjoy this I think...):p

Hello and welcome to ecf.
Try looking at liberty-flights.com and click on the uk site.
You didn't mention how much of a smoker you are or how long you have been smoking....If a long time smoker, may I suggest you look at an eGo/riva 510 and skip the reg 510 because if you are already talking about going 6v the reg 510 would be like sucking air thru a straw for you. just a thought.
also, liberty-flights
don't have logos on their stock of supplies....
good luck
:)

I went through that phase!!! After trying a whole bunch of them- think in terms of the shape, and battery life rather than the connection. You can get enough different atomizers that will do different things to vary the experience- rather than getting ones with different fittings, and having to keep track of different accessories.

I bought 2 of the thinner ecigs- and gave up on that form factor within a couple of weeks in favor of a Riva with bigger battery life. I *think* that you can get batteries for that system that function as a passthrough as well. I ended up with a Volcano Inferno for quite a while because I liked the two different batteries.

It sounds like you're going to have a lot of fun!!!!!

Thanks guys,

first point about how much i smoke; at least 20 Gauloises black tobacco roll-ups a day (no filters... eeek!)

second thing, I've spent a good deal of time looking at the Rive/Ego type ones and, much as I know they are very highly regarded, I can't get past the fact I don't like them as objects (yes.. I know, but it is in fact a deal for me!).

Whereas, the Copper, Phidius, Silver bullet (although not quite so much), monkeyboxx, reos etc etc DO appeal. In fact, the less ornate/beautiful boxes like the 5v Garry Dibley E-Cig City Mods - 101 - 5v Box Mod (V2) I like as well....

Things like the GG, provari don't, so I don't want one no matter how amazing they are... that's me I'm afraid.

I hear you about the 501 thing though, maybe I should head straight to mod-land? I do think, however, that I'd like a penstyle; would that give me a stronger experience than, say, a 501? also, should I go for DSE801 or M201?

Cheers guys!

I think mod land is calling your name- I bought a few stock kits, and when I got my mods I never looked back. It's the difference between driving a Ford, and a Mercedes....both get you there, but wow the Benz has a nice ride. Who knows...you might be a Lexus, Jag, or BMW type- so another type might appeal to you.

Wooden or plastic ones never really appealed to me, so I went with a REO. I did give my Riva a paint job with nail polish- and it has this sort of trashy/fabulous look to it.

There are only two connector types that are widely supported 510/306 and 901/KR808D-1 I know it looks like four but essentially its two. You can find other connection types here and there but they are becoming rarer, and most accessories are being made only for 510 and 901. If you start with slim batteries you'll be wanting to upgrade in a week, if you start with big batteries eGo, or Riva type you'll be content for a while but within a few months you will want to upgrade to a mod.

Disqualifying anything that is branded takes you out of some of the best PVs there are but if you're a nutter so be it, by the way do you rip the badges off of your car?

High voltage is a hit and miss thing, I know more people who dislike high voltage than who do. Personally I think anything over about 4.5V ruins the flavor of juice unless you use HV attys then you are bringing the wattage back down to where it would be with low voltage. You will also need to work out if you are a dripper/feeder person or a carto/tank person. Keep that in mind when looking for a PV they are the two main just delivery systems.

Thanks CBB... yes, I realise I'm a nutter but humour me anyway! (by the way, I don't own a car....)
re the branding thing, I know that takes out some really great ones, but there are still plenty to choose from (The BB, silver bullet and many of the tube mods don't appear to be logo'd, or am I wrong?)

Thanks for the info regarding connections; I guess you're saying don't bother with the penstyle? you see, this is actually good because I am narrowing options which makes things easier!

I imagine I'll need to try both the feeder type mods and the carto ones, plus I'd definitely need the ability to try at various voltages and with various atomizers (high/low resistance) and with various liquid types to find out what suits me.

I think most of the better mods allow for both 3.7v and 6v, and so that's ok. I may get a dedicated 5v one too.

By the way, given my quirky caveats, which mods allow for 3.7, 5 and 6v? or will anything that can do 3.7 and 6v also by default also be able to do 5v with the right battery choice?

Passthroughs (without battery) seem to offer a kind of 5v type experience don't they too?

Cheers

Ere gawd blimey mate. You're off to a flyer here mate. You're way ahead of me and i've been vaping for 7 weeks now. To be fair i am only vaping to keep me off my roll ups. I am sooo enjoying it though. It's so easy not to smoke when you've got half decent gear.
It is a journey. What you think at the beginning isn't what you think later. Your vaping will develope all on it's own. Like, how much you vape, what nic level your liquid is, what flavours your liquid are. It's great.

I'm from London originally. South London actually. It was a bit harsh at times but i loved it. Had to get out when i had kids though. I didn't want them going through some of the things i experienced. And it worked well.

Enough of me....good luck getting geared up. Do keep us posted.

hey, a fellow brit!
let me know where you generally source your stuff; really appreciate pointers for us UK people....

further info about strange old me. one of my abiding passions is, and will continue to be, Cuban cigars, which I buy and smoke regularly but, as any cigar aficionado will tell you, this is completely different to smoking cigarettes... no.1 you don't inhale for a start, or shouldn't do (although every now and again I'll take a tiny bit down), second most cigar lovers - except for folks like me apparently - HATE cigarettes and wouldn't dream of touching one.

back to the vaping world... I'll head off and check out this sabertouch device as was suggested; any other pointers and recommendations very gratefully received,
best,
Paul (that's my name by the way... yes, I know... don't ask)

Pretty much any device that takes an 18650 will let you vape at 3.7, 6, or 5 v by changing the batteries. Most- but not all- ask before you purchase. But some of those vv devices are pretty sweet.

For me, once I found a juice that I liked I just tried it on a few different carts and atty's until I found something that made me happy. If you want to lighten your wallet- fiddling with juice, and atty's can really set you back-much more so than devices.
