Except, although everything is bigger here, I like the smaller cigs :) So, instead of going down the hookah-sized route, I am...

...getting started with a Blu kit (yes I know, I know...). It's working fine and is certainly good enough for a first timer to start learning. I'm trying to perfect a no-fuss no-muss routine to get girlfriend and her mother (both 20+year smokers), and another good friend, off the bad stuff. Ok the worse stuff. The mom especially needs the ease of "comes in mail, open it, screw it in, toss the old one" so blu/Volcano and cartomizers are good ideas for her.

For me, I've already ordered some 510's to try out for us to compare/experiment with. I'm not too hardcore on NEEDING MY FIX NOW so I don't mind a little messing around to learn what I like. In fact, since Friday I've had only one "analog", and it tasted like holy hell. I can quickly see how this could get you off the junk. Of course now we just have to hope that PG/VG aren't secretly 1000000x worse for us...

I actually registered today to respond to a post about boiling cartomizers to refill them over in the blu forum, but learned I can't post there yet.

So, I'm off to soak my cartomizer in hot water and then let it dry for a day or two (or so I read) so I can re-use it when I order some juice today (I'll never stop thinking that sounds weird). Probably going to try something from FreedomSmoke, or Rocky Mountain as they seem to have good reputations and friendly over email :) (Any discount codes laying around?)

I noticed that the blu cartomizer is pretty full of the...foam filler or whatever you would call it. Or maybe that IS the wick? I read on one site somewhere that was boasting "our cartomizers contain no filler just empty ceramic", so is there an advantage to that?

Anyway, many happy puffs and posts!

Ack! Forgot my other question (I know I liberally salted my first post with Q's but just one more please!)

I finished my first carto this morn, as discovered by suddenly the first draw being extremely tough, and tasting like burnt toast or...paper? Hard to explain. Definitely not the sweet cappucino'ey flavor that the rest of the cart tasted like.

Is that a good signal that I simply burned through the juice and it's ok to re-use this? Or is it possible to tell if I (ahem) toasted the atomizer portion? Hate to clean, dry and refill it if it's a waste.

Thanks!

Congratulations and welcome to ECF. Get five posts, and you can post in other areas. I have not used Blu, but I have been very pleased with Volcano. I use the Inferno & like it better than fancier mods that I have. I do not care for the ceramic cartos, but other people do. And I have gotten now where I use my cartos until the pull gets too hard & I toss it.

Hello back from Canada.

Hey there!

I used to get up to Calgary quite frequently. Interestingly enough, that was the first place I saw smokes that:

- came in 10 packs (which I thought was a great idea)
- had the GIANT BLACK DEATH STICKER all over them (also probably a great idea)

Random thought: I need to go grab one of those little badges to start counting my days off the tobacky.... :)

Some a 306 cartomizer will also fit the blu but I haven't tried it yet. I've been buying e juice and refilling the carts from blu. I haven't had any issues. Just always remember to take the battery off the cart before fill or you will flood it. Try to keep the juice to the sides and out of the straw looking thing in the middle of the cart. You can also order a few extra batteries on the volcano site for 5.99 a piece if you order 2 or more. I hope you have fun vaping.

Thanks! How many drips (I guess that works out to some ml figure) do you put in when you refill? And how many times will you re-use it? I'm soaking mine now to see if that stench will go away when I refill it. Of course I have to order juice too :)

Cool, I had been considering that, and an extra charger for my girlfriend to use. I was hoping to find a coupon code, given the holiday etc. I tried the forums but couldn't seem to find anything current for Volcano... Any help appreciated :) Also I like your banner, may have to try that one!

I drip until I see the filler starting to get saturated. I guess about 4 or 5 drips. You may want to start with less until you've done a few. You don't want to overfill them. Overfilling will either give you a mouthfull of juice or it will leak the other direction into the battery. I have several carts that I have refilled 5 or 6 times and they are still going strong. I imagine after about 10 to 15 refills you might want to trash them. I haven't been cleaning them out or boiling them though out of fear that I would damage them. I just try to use them up and get all the flavor out before I refill with something different.
The only coupon code for blu currently is for the starter kit. After a google search I couldn't find one that was still valid for volcano. The battery life is the biggest downside to any smaller e cig including the joye 510and other popular brands (not just a blu problem) so I would def order a few extra batteries. These batteries are tiny so you can't expect all day vaping.

I refill my used cartridges, but don't have the time to boil them, nor do I like to vape til' they burn. I'm vaping V2's now til I decide on an upgrade. If blu comes with the little plastic caps, you can try filling them with a little juice and then pushing the cart. into it. w/o the battery. I watch the metal part and stop as soon as I see liquid. Also, try waiting a day for the flavor to "steep" for lack of a better term. sometimes it taste better the next day.

Thanks to the many responses!

Will try basic dripping, better too little than too much. Don't want a mouth of liquid (other than bourbon!) :)

As for battery life, I'm actually a pretty light user, for example the blu batteries last me a day and a half each on average. Even my g/f (who is supplementing with lozenges) hasn't run hers down since I left it with her yesterday yet. So, with some extra batteries/packs I bet we'd do OK. Still digging for coupons :)

10 packs were a great idea. How long ago was that? I wonder if they still do it?
The packaging can be pretty gruesome but once you're inside nothing smokes like a Canadian cigarette!

Its been a while, probably 3 years or more? But I seem to remember liking them. Nothing like a pack of Reds I got from Mexico a long time ago. Tasted completely sweet and unprocessed. I keep thinking I'm going to find the right juice to bring back that memory :)
