My name is Shane, I just got into vaping because Ive always wanted to improve my health and quit smoking for good. Ive smoked for 11 years, I'm 23. So I went out to walgreens and bought the blu cig starter kit plus a cartomizer pack, the total was close to 90$. Went home and tried it. Within the first day I grew to hate it, the battery life sucked and only lasted maybe 20 or 30 min. And the flavors died out around 40 to 50 puffs. I say puffs I mean small puffs since the thing was weak and never gave me good vapor or throat hit . So I felt ripped off, Thats when I did some research on the internet and found a very good model that got very good reviews. The 510 Tank system.

I went ahead and bought it, when I got it the batts were all charged and ready to go. This thing puts out some great vapor and throat hit. I really enjoy using it, I first bought some flavors at a local store, blueberry and grape. But they were way to sweet and gave me a sore throat. Then my Pall Mall and Winston flavors came from USA liquids. Pall Mall is 11mg strength and Winston is 18mg strength. I am still getting cravings for analog cigs but I'm trying hard not to give in. I also ordered a 510 usb passthrough so I can save my batteries when at home or in the car.

So thats my story so far, its still hard to not smoke but I'm fighting it and just vaping. I got a coffee flavor coming soon too, its 11mg. I never tried the 24mg or 36mg so I do not know if a higher nicotine would help my cravings. I suspect Im still adicted to the other stuff in analog cigs like tar and other chemicals. But anyways I just wanted to drop in and say hey :)

Most new vapers need around 24mg nicotine strength eliquid to make the transition, at least initially. From polls on this and other vaping sites, it's the most common level used. I would give that a try. As you get more experienced, you may want to look into a variable power model PV (personal vaporizer) that provides warmer vapor and more consistency.

Yes Ive heard smokers needed more nicotine starting out, I was unsure of the level since I used to smoke lights. And I also wanted a level that was close to light cigs and that didn't have such a harsh throat hit as the full flavors had. But I like a vape just as long as I would smoke normal. I wasn't sure that if I did get a 24mg or 36mg then I would not be able to vape as long because of the higher nicotine level. I'm new to all this strength stuff so I'm trying to get a right feel. When I ordered my Pall Mall flavor 11mg was medium, so I thought medium was like a light cig. I used to smoke Pall Mall lights.

Welcome! Good for you. I don't know why your Blu's would cave after 20-30 mins, I find them to last a few hours at least. I started with Blu, which got me to cut back, and then I went to eGo, with Vivi Novas and Stardusts, and all is cool. I started with 24 mg, I'm mostly down to 12-18mg now, and just sit there. Don't really see a huge reason to cut it down yet, maybe someday. The higher nics will help you with the cravings, I didn't crave them at all after a week.

Hang in there, lot of great people here, you will easily make it through! I smoked for 30+ years, and I've been smoke-free for quite awhile now, so good for you!!

And an edit: I can vape all day on anything from 12-24mg, and it never bothers me, of course everyone is different, but that never affected me at all. ;)

Actually, it's impossible to equate what you smoked (light, etc) with nicotine levels in eliquid. Vaping is far less efficient in getting nicotine into your system compared to smoking.

Hi Shane, welcome and good for you!

There are a lot of individual differences in the quitting-smoking experience, however one thing that I found very useful was to have different strengths of juices available. Like you, the first order I made I thought 18 was really high because it was called "high" in the particular brand of juice that I ordered to start - I have since found 24 to be my regular strength with 36 used for short periods at difficult times. It is also nice to have the lower strengths for times when your nic level is high but you want to keep on vaping. You can always blend juices to adjust the nic level once you find what level works for you.

My personal experience was that once I went to 24 it helped a lot, and you may be quite right that you find yourself addicted to other things beside the nic. I think that at times might be why I reach for the higher nic:
Body: Hey where's the other crud?
Me: Shut up and have some more nic!
Body: Oh Okay.

There is also a learning curve ... the vaping delivers the nicotine more slowly than smoking so you might find you want to vape more frequently throughout the day rather than waiting til you are already having a craving. I found when I started I had a real tendency to wait until I had a nic fit then try to inhale fast and deeply as if it was a cigarette - with the ecig remember slow and gentle is the way to go.

Good luck!

Thanks and I think I have a 24mg, but its clove and i really am not found of it but i'll see if using it when times are hard with the cravings. I may in fact think about ordering a Pall Mall 36mg sometime. Since I do like Pall Mall. In any case I guess I'll be stocked up on e-liquid lol. I have 30ml of Pall Mall 11mg, and 30ml of Winston 18mg. Plus the others, 30ml of clove at 24mg, 7ml blueberry 18mg (hate it, too sweet), 7ml grape 18mg (hate it, too sweet). I think things will be better when I get my USB passthrough so I won't have to worry about battery life so much, with that and also time and effort I think I can quite for good :)
