I am interested in getting started with a ecig. I got interested when my sons wife bought him one for xmas(volcano) he seemed to like and I did also but he seemed to have a lot of problems keeping batteries charged. i have been doing a lot of reading here and have got confused as to what I need. I smoke and want to quit(lozenges, patches, and prescip) to no avail. I enjoy smoking but the health issues that accompany them I don't like. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi figg and welcome! Give us some more info so we can help you out a lil better. How much do you smoke (a pack a day and so forth) what kind did you smoke? Do you want ease of use like a two piece or does that not concern you so a 3 piece would be just fine? With a 2 piece you have your battery and a cartomizer which is the cartridge and atomizer in one. The 3 piece is the battery the atomizer and the cartridge all seperate. I'm glad you discovered vaping and it is sooooooo much better than smokeing. I love it and have been vaping since the 14th of December, it truly is wonderful!

Welcome to ECF Figg!
Best reading on the forum starts here http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...gh-4-6-please-do-not-post-here-thank-you.html

Lots of great info links in this post as well:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ed-questions-about-electronic-cigarettes.html

My tip: If I had it all to do over again, I'd get a battery modification and buy atomizers separately rather than a starter kit of any particular model (the small mAh of all the batteries are a pain in the azz!!). The Chuck/Little Chuck is one of the most dependable for the money (I have 4 of them, as well as other maker's mods... Chucks always run right and provide great vapor). THAG BUILT: A Wolf in Sheeps Clothing! and other makers battery mods can be found on the forum.

A primary device poll is here http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...reviews/13928-primary-device-preferences.html

I can highly recommend a 510 or the penstyle (302, 801, RN4072). Some will tell you to go for a cartomizer, but I've use the cartomizer, and find the flavors off putting and the vapor on the wimpy side (especially when compared to the 510).

I'm sure more folks will come in with opinions, but that's my .02 for ya!

I smoke 2 1/2 to 3 packs a day menthol lights. 2 or3 piece would be fine. Have look at several manufacturers but just don' know.

It seems like the KR8 (2-piece) and the 510 (3-piece) are the most recommended for newbies. I have the KR8 from Vapor4Life and I love it. It's easy to use and the variety of flavors for cartomizers is excellent.

JOYE510 is the one I see recommended most often for 3-piece units, and it's fairly inexpensive to get a starter kit. That's all I can tell you except to warn you that any 3-piece model will require more fussing around than a 2-piece will need.

There is a sticky that explains all of the different models with their pros and cons. It's well worth reading; you may find that you actually want a mini or a mod once you know what's what.

Good luck.

At 2 1/2 or 3 packs a day you'll be heading for a mod soon but you'll need an essential part of that - a 510 atty.

Notice in the poll the Hellen linked to that the majority chose either the 510 or a mod. Well this is what they use in the mods:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-e-smoking-discussion/52813-atty-your-mod.html

You can get a Joye 510 here for $35 and get enough to get yourself free shipping ($59+) so extra attys or some juice or both but juice is necessary or you'll be back to your menthol lights when you've drained the carts that come with the kit.

Also take a look at one inexpensive mod:

Bartleby

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/video-reviews/43943-bartleby-pv-review-6.html#post732483

pop up to the top of that thread for the video and scan the responses to people that bought one.

I was a three pack/day menthol light smoker and quit the day I got my Joye 510.

Oh yeah... if 3 piece ecigs were that much of a fuss, there wouldn't be that many people that still buy and use them. And cartomizers without the fuss - iow - when you actually dispose of them, are much more expensive to vape than buying juice and refilling. If no fuss is what you're looking for, stay with cigarettes.

Kent C is right. You'll probably end up with a high powered mod in the end.

At 2 1/2 to 3 packs a day, your body is used to a constant, heavy stream of nicotine throughout the day. That's not an easy thing to overcome.

I was at about 1 1/2 packs a day, and I was able to quit with a 510 and 24 mg juice..... For about two months. I did really good until I had problems with my ex wife and daughter.

My wife on the other hand smoked about 3 packs a day, and she has had a heck of a time with it. She wants to quit, she knows she needs to quit, but the 510 just isn't enough for her.

I built a 5 volt mod for her, and she is doing much better with it. She is down to about a pack a day now. That is something that no one could have seen coming.

I would recommend starting with the 510. You can get a kit from cignot.com for $35. According to the cignot website, they are currently out of the 510 starter kits, but expect more within the week. There are a lot of suppliers who sell 510 kits for around $40 to $45.

If the 510 doesn't work for you, take a look at the 5 or 6 volt mods, or look in the modders section at these forums. If you are good with a soldering iron, you can easily make your own 5 or 6 volt for a few bucks.

To be fair, the fussing necessary with a 510 is the single biggest complaint that I see here on the forums. I see lots of complaints about getting bad atomizers, mouthfuls of juice, constantly having to mod the fills, and short battery life. They are impractical for people when driving or working for long stretches because they need to be refilled more frequently than KR8's. In my opinion, that's a lot of negatives. The only consistent positives I see are price (cheaper than the KR8 for a starter kit) and vapor volume.

Cartomizers are much easier to deal with - even when you refill, which brings down the vaping costs significantly. Battery life for the KR8 XL's is superior by far to the 510 models. Taste and throat hit are terrific. Atomizers are not an issue because you get a new one with every carto. You can vape for quite a few hours without changing out a battery or refilling a cart. What's not to like?

What am I missing? Why are there so many fans of the Joye 510 out there when it appears to be a huge hassle? I am genuinely curious as I want to add another e-cig model to my arsenal and I'm torn between a 510 and a mod. Right now, the mod is looking like the best idea.

I was also a 2+ pack a day smoker. If you are just trying i have to reccommend Mad Vapes disposables too. However if you are concerned about keeping batteries charged I would recommend somthing llike the screwdriver. It has the same voltage as mini cigs but uses a different battery. I have had my current battery going for 24 hours and am a heavy vaper.

I started with the 510 and had to rotate at least four batteries a day and can't tell you how many I had to replace. 510 has really poor battery life. especially the manuals where my tendancy was to lay on the switch for a better hit. The screwdriver is also sealed which works for newbs too.

I am looking into an HV mod but holding off a bit.

Hi there. I've been vaping for about a month now on a Titan 510 from Totally Wicked and all i can say is that i'm more than satisfied with it. After about a week or so of smoking both analogs and the 510 i completely dropped the analogs. Nowadays if i really lust for an analog and try to take 1 puff i almost instantly get sick of it's taste. Hope my input helped :)

Gotta disagree there - merely because there are more complaints does not mean they are worse: Product A sells 100 units. 10% of its buyers complain. Product B sells 1000 units. 5% of its users complain. That is 10 complaints versus 50, but it hardly means product A is better. And the 510 is a very common type.

Also, I never found the relatively short usage time a problem, since I usually vape more than one taste at the same time, anyway. So I always have a few PVs ready to grab. If I really want to vape for a long time with little or no maintenance, I use my cigar. Which of course it not all that popular any more, but hey, they aren't bad. (Just expensive when you need a replacement.)

And certainly the 510 is a lot easier to refill than a KR8!
