Hello new to the forum and to ecigs

About a month ago i picked up my first ecig. Normal evod tank with a batter and charger, it was considerably cheaper then a carton of cigarettes so i figured it would be worth the investment. At first i went through the liquid pretty fast and then before long i noticed i made the normal 10 oz bottle that had barely lasted me a week last almost 3 weeks. I hadn't noticed any change in my "smoking habits" at that point so i figured it was pretty cool. Saved a lot of money on the switch.

But then recently it all changed, and the only thing i can figure is the nicotine mg is too high although its no different then it was. Anyway the first month or so it was great, no coughing or anything weird. And then i woke up one day and since then every puff leads to a coughing fit that makes my sides hurt and gives me a headach.

Now i have a friend that recently got the flu/cold and now his ecig is doing the same thing. i can see how a sore throat might do it, but i don't feel mine in my throat its more in my lungs. After a while does the body just decide its time to lower the dose? Its gotten to where i had to switch back to normal cigarettes until i can get in and try a lower dosage. (The store closes at 6 here so i haven't been able to get in to really talk with em.)

I ran out of cigerettes tonight and i have had to use the ecig and man its been hell.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

I smoked for about 17 years and quit about 15 years ago. When I first quit, 2 or 3 weeks later, I started coughing and my lungs got congested, but I figured that it was my lungs "cleaning" themselves after my 17 years of abuse. I don't know how medically accurate this was, but I was told this by several people.

After I quit cigarettes I started using smokeless tobacco, and haven't smoked in the 15 years since then, but when I started vaping I put that down (about 2 months ago). I will say that since starting vaping I have also noticed a cough here and there, a tickle in the throat, etc. I assume it's from the lungs, now accustomed to NOT having to inhale smoke, now inhaling clouds of vapor. I guess going from smoking to vaping is a smoother transition than going from a "not smoking" form of tobacco use to vaping.

With any thing like this going on in your body though, I would suggest making an appointment with your family doctor as a first step! Just my 2 cents. :2c:

Hi and welcome!

You didn't say what the nic level or pg/vg ratio is in the liquid you are using, which is important information.

What you are describing sounds more like a problems with pg/vg or flavorings rather the nicotine level. While it could be the nic (anything is possible), most people who get what we call "nic sick" report nausea, headaches, feeling dizzy, jittery, sweating, insomnia - basically wired. I can also taste too much nic. It has sort of a peppery taste to me.

Many people have a sensitivity to pg, which can cause a variety of symptoms. I don't have it, so I'm going to let someone who does chime in with specifics. What I do have it a sensitivity to too much vg and some flavorings. If I consistently vape a juice with more than 50% vg my lungs start feeling heavy (that the only way I can describe it), no cough though.

The flavoring I seem to have the worst trouble with is cinnamon, which is weird. Cinnamon vapes were one of my favorites and I have all sorts of flavors with cinnamon in them. I started vaping some other flavors and hadn't vaped cinnamon in a couples of weeks, so I fired it up one day. I took one drag and I felt like my lungs were burning. Not like the flavor was too spicy, I mean pain. The juice had been sitting in a tank the whole time and I thought maybe the coil was gunked up or something, but that turned out not to be the case. All of the cinnamons I have make my lungs hurt.

So you see, there can be a number of reasons for your symptoms - probably more I haven't thought of right now. As I said, it would be very helpful if you post more about the juice(s) you are using.

I've only been vaping for a couple of months, so I don't know how relevant this will be, but here goes...
When I first started vaping, I had been smoking a pack and a half of cigs every day. I smoked for 25 years or so, so I was a long time heavy smoker as you can imagine. When i got into the ejuices I was at a 24mg strength. Since then I've come down to 18mg. I still have the occassional tickle in my throat, and every so often I'll still get a coughing fit. The coughing fits aren't as bad as they used to be, but they still do happen on occassion. Believe it or not, I'm allergic to cigarette smoke, so quitting was becoming a serious issue for me.
Let me ask you this: do you live in an area where there are a lot of smokers? Like, an apartment complex? I do, and just about everyone here still smokes. You can smell it before you hit the main doors. Could be one problem.
I used to get all of my juices from one location. Local vape shop. I was finding that theire flavors weren't consistent. I've also found that if you let your juice sit around too long, even if it's just in the original bottle, it will start to go funky after about a week or so. Just been my experience. I guess a lot of it depends on the room temperature and so on.
I don't know where you're getting your stuff, but I'm willing to bet that the mixtures aren't as consistent as you might think. I had to find a local mixer, a guy who does it more as a sideline thing. He doesn't have overhead like a store does, and he really cares about what he does. I've bought several juices from him and I've noticed better consistency out of his product. Also, he only makes the stuff when you order it. A lot of shops will have juices that have sat on a shelf for weeks. You don't really know how long it's been there.
I can't say what's ailing you. Could be a lot of thing. But sounds to me like it's something in the juice. Try switching vendors at the very least. Even better, try to get fresh juice.
Above all, remember that you're still inhaling water into your lungs. It's better than smoking, but it still does have an effect on your health. I still get heavy lungs occassionaly, and I still feel short of breath if I exert myself. And we're still taking in nicotene, too, which will produce that nasty tickle every so often.

When i have talked to the store they have never mentioned a pg or vg so that could have something to do with it. They are certified flavors, i do know that much. And the one that is doing it to me now is a grape flavor at 18mg. The store is the only one in this area so i know they have a lot of customers. Oddly enough the bottle i have is half empty because it just started doing it one day.

I do get a kind of heavy lung thing going but only after i cough alot. I kinda attribute it to sore throat a little bit, i have to take a lot of nightquil to sleep because of nasal polyps (my nose runs pretty much 24 hours a day because it so the nightquil helps stop that so i can sleep.) So my mouth dries out really bad and i always wake up with a dry cracked throat. Its been hell on my teeth too.

I could see it being some kind of sensitivity to it though, i tried lowering the power (yellow to blue on the led light) and that helped a little but not very much. And then i tried adding a little water to thin out the liquid a lil and that helped a little but again not enough.

I remember it really started after i went from a tobacco flavor to the grape. I liked the tobacco one more i just ran out so i figured i would use up the grape i had left. so i wonder if maybe one was the pg and this one is the other, or vise versa.

If i stay awake til they open i will give em a call and see, the bottle does say anything besides the mg of nicotine, it actually says it may contain one or the other.

Yea, i think i will give em a call, and if nothing else maybe i will try an online store or something. The juice i liked, mostly because it had almost no taste at all, was the very light tobacco flavor. They called it 555 but i have no idea why really. And it didn't give me any trouble, but i haven't tried since before all this started.

I really do wanna keep using the ecig, for the savings if nothing else. Over all i prefer it to normal cigarettes a lot. I'm a writer by trade and cigarettes just get in the way, dirty keyboard and melted keys. Get workin on a scene and by the time you remember that you were smoking its all burned up.

I even converted i think three people to the ecig too, so i think all around its better. I just hope my store here knows which is made of what so i can figure out of that's it or hell maybe my battery is putting of some kind of fume. It does get the liquid on the contact pretty often...

Anyway its good to know I'm not the only one.

Thanks for info.

I finally got a hold of the store here, and they agree that its most likely a sensitivity to the PG but all of their juice is exactly the same so, is there a website people like to order mixes? i wanted to find one where it was just VG to try but i cant find any sites that offer that. But then again I'm not even sure what search terms to really use either.

I don't think we have any one that does the mixing on the side here.
