Hello! New With A Few Questions

Hello experienced ecig users. I just joined your forum in hopes to learn more about my new ecig and how to properly use and care for it. I purchased a SS KGO battery,some virgin vapor liquid, and a Kanger Pro II tank. I think I put it together correctly. I filled it, tried it real quick, and am now charging it fully per the instructions for 8 hrs.It says charge, use for 20 min, then charge another hour. The instructions with all this stuff are not extensive. In fact no instruction really came with the batteries. {I actually bought two of each}
I am curious about a few things. Like in the kanger tank box there were two coils, and some {extra?} clear rubber seals. I am also wondering, forgive me if this is a dumb question, but how many times do you actually vape per session? Or is that purely different for each person, when you feel satisfied? Can you do this too much?
Any help or direction is appreciated.

This stuff rearely comes with any instructions - but you will get good advice here. You've done the right thing getting 2 batteries though!

The coils don't last forever. Depending how heavily you use it, 1-2 weeks is about normal. So it's good to have a supply of spares. The rubber seals are called O-rings, and they are used in the tank to prevent leaking. If you do get any leaking, then you need to replace them with your spares.

How much you vape is very much up to you. If you feel nauseous, dizzy or headache, you may be overdosing yourself on nicotine - you will notice this before it becomes danegrous. In that instance you need to either vape less, or go for a lower-nic juice and use it the same amount. It can take a little trial and error to find exactly what suits you.

Thank you for the response LondonGirl. I have another generic type cheapo one, but I was very unhappy with it. Always a burned and yucky taste. I did not realize the coil burns up so fast. How do I know when it does..it won't work?
The juice I used in the past was 12 mg, but the new I bought at 18 mg. I am hoping to give up regular smoking with this new product. Fingers crossed.

You are right cause when it burns out it won't work or you will start loosing flavor!!!! London girl said it best a little trial and error and you will find your groove!!!! Make sure you drink plenty of water, if you start feeling sick cut back on your vaping and drink,drink,drink water!!! You are on the right track and everybody here are extremely helpful and know this, they are NO dumb questions!!!!

You'll know when to change your coil because it will start to taste less pleasant.

Hey there and welcome to ECF!

How do you know when it's time to change a coil? It might stop working, but it's more likely that the taste will just start to change and become less pleasant. This is sort of an experience thing and it's also sort of a personal preference thing. It also depends on your juice (some juice gunks ups coils quicker than others) and how hot you run your set up. When I was using a protank, I'd change my coils every 3 days or so. However, I very much prefer fresh coils.

There are some coil maintenance things you can do to extend their usefulness. The easiest of these is to soak or rinse your coils. This can help to remove some of the carbonized material that collects on the coil. It won't get it all off, but it can get you some more use out of a coil. If you want even more life out of a coil, you can do what is called 'dry burning'. Basically, you disassemble the head somewhat and pulse the coil on your battery to burn off the crap on the wires, kind of like how a self cleaning oven works. You can search on here for 'dry burning protank' for detailed instructions. The final, and most involved way to refresh a coil is to rebuild it. Protank heads can be rebuilt and re-wicked with fresh kanthal and silica, cotton, or some other wicking material. This obviously takes practice and some people just prefer to buy new ones rather than go through the hassle.

For people who wish to delve even further into rebuilding (for flavor and potentially saving money) you can buy atomizers (toppers) specifically made to rebuild. These can be either tanks that hold a few ml of juice, or drippers where you drip juice onto the coil every couple of puffs. Many people never go this far, and perfectly happy to buy stock coils.

As for how often to vape... It's a very individual thing. Vape until you don't want to smoke. You may be a person who wants to vape constantly at first (kind of like a pacifier) and find yourself getting too much nicotine. You have to either slow down or go to a lower nic juice. Conversely, you may choose to vape similarly to how you smoked (once an hour or hour and a half, whatever). In that case, if you find yourself craving a cigarette, you'd probably want to increase the nicotine content of your juice. It just takes some experimentation and experience.

I see I have a steep learning curve here. Do you think it would be wise to drop by a local shop and see if they might guide me to make sure I have everything assembled correctly? Do you think most shops will carry replacement coils for what I purchased, or should I go back to Virg. V. to buy online? Are the items I bought fairly good by most standards?

Most B&M stores should have kanger coils. They usually cheaper to buy as a 5 pack online, but stopping by a store to get advice and picking up some spares is a good idea. You can also sample liquids while you are there.

You are off to a great start! Welcome to the forum. As others have recommended, dry burning your coils can really help extend their life. They slowly gunk up, provide less heat, and therefore a less satisfying vape.

There are many good tutorials on YouTube about how to go about cleaning and dry burning your coils. As Spaz mentioned, you may want to consider re-building your coils. Again, lots of good tutorials online for that if you decide to give it a try.

The coils get gunked up over time, it's so gradual that it's sometimes hard to even notice, but if you change out the atomizer with a fresh one, the difference will be amazing. When I was using clearomizers, I had my best luck switching the atomizers out daily, drop the old one in alcohol/vodka/everclear to soak overnight, then rinse it well and let it dry all day while you vape on yesterday's freshly soaked/rinsed atty.

This seems to extend the life of them and you're always using a decently clean atty. Dry burning occasionally, if done carefully, will make 'em almost as good as new.

I still feel kind of clueless to all the types of batteries and what not.. Do I need a different/better battery to step this up a notch and help me kick the 'analogs' for good?
Presently I have two kanger pro-tankII's, and two KGO batteries from VV. I am using their double espresso, and naked vanilla, both at 18mg.
Is this a fairly decent rig?
What advantage does 'steeping' your juice give you?

Steeping gives the flavors in your eliquid time to meld together. Many eliquid vendors mix your eliquids fresh when you order them. Some eliquids are good to go right out of the mailbox, and others require a little time to "come into their own". It is also a matter of personal preference, and how you perceive the taste. If an eliquid tastes good to you, vape it. If you think it still needs a little something, let it steep.

I can't really tell you about your equipment, since I have never used anything but cigalikes and Kanger Evods. If you are getting a satisfactory vape from what you have now, use it. If not, I am sure someone will be along to help you find something that will work for you.

Thanks for your replies. I picked up a vision spinner today and I like it much better. I am learning. Same pack of analogs since yesterday, and it has four left. It would have been gone yesterday, plus a lot more today. So I think I am doing fairly good for just a few days.

If you change the coil everyday you will be fine, but that's not economical.

Stop throwing away your protank coils – ITCVapes

Clean your coils by dryburning;
rewick you coils.

One coil can last weeks if you maintain it.

Don't throw them out though; you might rebuild them later with kanthal wire.
