Hi all
I am a smoker who is brand new to vaping. I kept getting directed to this forum while googling my numerous questions so thought where better to join and say hello!

I previously had a cig-alike which I didn't enjoy and never even attempted to give up smoking while using. Fast forward a few years and a huge argument with my upstairs neighbour about him being able to smell cigarettes, I thought I would get a vaporiser to use at home and just smoke while out. So I bought a Photon Tank unit which is 1100mAh with clearomizers and some tobacco flavoured e-liquid. I used it all Friday night (while drinking a lot!) and didn't smoke, as I mentioned, I didn't intend on giving up smoking but I've now not smoked since 6pm Friday!

I got some flavoured e-liquids, blueberry and cherry which are PG >70%, VG, natural & artificial flavours and nicotine 1.6%. I am really enjoying the cherry flavour and yet to test blueberry as I only have 2 clearomizers.

I'm not sure if I'm still craving cigarettes or craving something else within cigarettes...or it's just my mind playing tricks! I am worried about work tomorrow as I feel that I need to vape a lot to get the same satisfaction as I would from 1 cig but obviously I can't vape at my desk or stand outside for 30 mins vaping away! This is even with my stronger 2.4% nicotine liquid....

Maybe it will get easier the more days pass of not smoking or maybe I need to do a bit more research on how to get the best out of my vaping!

Thanks for reading and looking forward to my vape journey!!

Welcome Ilithya and congrats on your journey. This is a great forum for information and support. I use the search box at the top often to look for answers. I'm on day 6 and it does get easier, though I do experience a couple cravings a day (after a few hits on the vape they pass). I started with a low nic level and once I upped it most cravings vanished (and I am still in somewhat of a shock over how easy it has been). You can do it!!!

Welcome sir, I can attest to the fact that it does indeed get even easier.
I used to sneak in the odd puff at work and once in a while take a "bathroom break"
if I wanted. Mind you, it wasn't a fog machine I was using at that time so it was very easy to hide.

Just grabbing the PV instead of "going out" for a smoke was just quicker and easier in my experience so it worked out well for me. Probly will for you too. Cheers eh.

Welcome.

Photon is VIP.

You and I need to have a little talk about VIP. The prices are way too expensive and the tank is a truly bad piece of e-cig equipment.

You are vaping on a little plastic tank, yes? That tank is an old design. It could be the reason you are struggling.

I'll be back later.... got to go out. :)

Another "help" I have found is the routine change. I will look to go places where I would not be allowed to smoke normally. (a shopping mall for instance) I'm to the point of equipment upgrades (coming in the mail) to try and enhance my experience though my VV Spinner and inexpensive tanks are doing me well. (I don't think the quest for the next great flavor will ever end)

Hi Ilithya and welcome to ECF!

A couple of suggestions:
  • Vaping Technique
Vaping isn't the same as smoking. The vapor particles are larger than smoke particles and don't get to the smaller part of your lungs like smoke does, so most of the absorption of nicotine with vaping happens in the mouth and nose.
Try firing your device just before starting to draw, then draw and stop firing before you finish drawing. That way, you get a nice initial throat hit and also get all of the vapor being produced.
Also, the nicotine in vapor absorbs slower than smoke, so exhaling slowly and maybe through your nose will let your body have a chance to absorb more.
  • WTA Juices
WTA (Whole Tobacco Alkaloids) juices have more of the things that some are addicted to than just nicotine. Many (myself included) find that these juices provide the "missing link" when a particularly strong urge hits. Red Tail Vapor carries some of these if you feel you want to try them
  • Vape Low Top Off High
When you are just vaping for enjoyment and don't have cravings, vape on a lower nic juice. Then if a craving hits, switch to a higher nic juice. This works for many and helps you lower you dependency on nicotine.

Hope that helps and Happy Vaping!

Hi again!

Thanks for the warm welcome and all the tips!

My VIP photon isn't plastic but silver metal, not sure if I can upload a picture, I'm writing this on my phone at the moment. I know I could definitely so better and I want to get some more, I just thought i would get that one in a starter set to see how I liked it :) completely open to recommendations on better ones though!

I think my body is definitely in withdrawal from something else hidden in normal cigs, I feel that I'm missing something but I have no IDE what it is or how to satisfy it! Hopefully it will ease in time.

As for work, I think I will use the 2.4% for during the day and see how I get on, maybe with a few sneaky vapes in the bathroom to start with!

Glad to have met others who enjoy this as well and who haves managed to quit real cigs, I had no idea vaping was so huge!

It's OK. I can find your tank no trouble. Metal cased made for VIP?
Leave it with me.

Yes, Vaping is pretty big these days. It wasn't exactly easy to quit when I did it, but these days there are some fantastic products out there.

Did you know for example, that the plastic stick types (E-Lites, Nicolites) are not very effective at delivering nicotine... so much so that even 50 puffs may not equal one cigarette.
However, a modern evod e-cig can produce far more nicotine in the vapour, meaning you only need to get over the initial phase of quitting smoking - the Nicotine element is taken care of.

You should definitely use the 24mg (2.4%) liquid if you are getting cravings.

Ps my current technique, no idea if it's correct:

Press the button and place in my mouth, inhale slowly for 4-5 seconds, hold in mouth, inhale lightly for throat hit, then exhale slowly either through my mouth or nose and sometimes I hold in my mouth, open and inhale through nose.

your technique is perfect for maximum nic absorption. :)

Oh great! Thanks for confirming Rsunderl, I think it might just be a mixture of being new and maybe the other addictive things from real cigs leaving my system that's making me think I'm not getting enough nicotine, I don't crave real cigs at all, can't quite put my finger on what I'm craving...!

Yep, that's the on DJ :) it feels okay but I'm sure I could get better! I shall keep researching but there's so much to learn! One thing I do notice with mine is that I've had to clean it a few times, it was bubbling so I took it apart and used a tissue to soak up a small amount of eliquid that was on the....erm, sorry I'm not sure what it's called, the part between the battery and clearomiser...so much to learn!

Thanks for all your help and warm welcome. I'm from Scotland by the way, forgot to mention in my first post :)

Welcome Mate, I've just started this journey last weekend and it's blowing me away! I appreciate when you say you are still craving something, but you don't know what it is, I do feel that also at times. I've had one smoke in the last 6 days and it wasn't appealing at all. I've been a chain smoker for fifty years so what has happened in the last week is quite an accomplishment. From what I've seen you will get good support and advice using this forum.
So good luck in our new lifestyle!

Hi Chrissie, nice to see another UK'er here! :)

Thanks Heybilox, today is my first day at work with the vape, normally I go outside to smoke about 10:30, lunch time and then in the afternoon, more if I am walking to meetings etc, not been out yet but will go with my Vape in a minute just to keep me topped up so I don't start mistaking my need for nicotine as a need for a cigarette!

Was looking a different vaporisers last night, wow, I had no idea there were so many!!! Going to need to invest in a couple more I think!
