Hi folks :)

i was was looking for answers to a few e-cig questions and came across this forum, it seemed like a very good idea to register, and listen to others' experiences of "vaping".

a few days ago after trying someone else's e-cig I decided to give it a go myself, and so far so good I haven't had a cigarette in nearly a week, in fact I haven't even really missed having one at all. Good news, for both my health and my wallet methinks!

one thing I'd like to know straight away though, running back through some of the things the bloke in the shop told me was that for the first wee while after starting vaping I may develop a bit of a cough or sore throat, he said this was because the vapour was basically steam, and that the lungs can't dispell water on their' own.

i possibly wasn't paying enough attention at the time, but now I'm wondering about that comment, I mean, if the lungs can't dispell water then - since I assume that e-cig users are not all slowly drowning - then, where does the water/steam/vapour eventually go?!

Anyway thanks for having me, I look forward to getting to know you all
:)

Welcome to ECF

There is a learning curve with vaping and I hope you stick with it. I have no clue what to tell you on this lungs dispelling water thing other than it is BS. When you first start vaping you may have various symptoms but that is generally you're body coming off of smoking.

You may get a sore throat this will be part of your first learning curve, finding which liquids and devices best fit you.

make sure to do your deep breathing and coughing...(that's how lungs expell fluid ) along with evaporation, and 10ml /day isn't really that much honestly.

I'd think if you were vaping and had compromised lungs and taking meds that supress the cough, you could end up in trouble...but for the most of us, it''s no big deal the added "fluid" it's in a vapor and a lot is exhaled, it's that nicotine that hopefully is absorbed more than anything else.

and welcome!!! It is amazing huh?

Thank you all, I'm very glad I found you. I guess I will have other questions, but as I said, it's only been just under a week so far, and I'm still getting to know how myself and e-cigs are going to gel over the long haul. Bi say long haul because I hadn't really considered the possibility of giving up e-cigs, is that unusual do you think? I realise as I say that that already I'm kind of seeing e-cigs as a replacement rather than a cure. Hmmmm... Not sure how I feel about that now that it's 'out there'?!

Thing is I never really thought about giving up smoking, nor really wanted to, but my dentist has been telling me for the past couple of years that smoking was exacerbating the beginnings of gum disease, - funny, but the thought of loosing my teeth hit me with greater immediacy than the potential of dying early from lung cancer. Bizarre, but there you go, I'm obviously a wee bit looped lol

to ecf Ghostie. So glad you are here. I have had very little to do with vape shops (the ones I have, I haven't been impressed). This forum is the place to get reliable information. I wouldn't worry about what they told you. The lungs are made up of like 83% water anyway. They use PG (which is just one part of the juice) in inhalers in copd patients so I don't imagaine is a bad thing. I just go by what I read.

Congrats on the week of vaping. I think it is absolutely wonderful. Good luck to you and I look forward to reading about your continued success.

Aw thank you for the flowers Rat2chat2, that is just so sweet :)

I can see already that I the right thing coming here, what a lovely warm welcome from everyone! I'm sure other questions will crop up over the next wee while, and it's good to know there are some great people who will help me out. And more than that, it's nice to share successes with folks who can understand and empathise.

Actually I do have another question, these liquids?... mine is supposed to be 12mg I think? So anyway I used to smoke around 15 to 20 cigarettes a day, how do I know what's equivalent to that in vapes? Does the number of vapes equate to the same number of puffs of a cigarette? I'm not sure exactly how to calibrate exactly how much nicotine Im taking in, if you know what I mean? I haven't used much liquid, in fact so far I've only filled it up a couple of times in 5 days and well over half of my wee £3 bottle of liquid is still left. Advice anyone?

Thanks
Ghostie

Well I'm certainly not chain vaping, lol. I think my work probably helps with that, because they've adopted the same policy they use for regular cigarettes, basically if you want a vape you have to go to the smoking area outside. And obviously you can't just spend your day there, nice as it would be to get paid for vaping :D

Well that's great, it seems like you've found your comfort zone and are happy with it. I take it that means you're not planning on giving up vaping, and aren't using ecigs to wean yourself off "smoking/vaping" altogether?

Yes, I get that, joesquid, but even so, I have to admit I am a little bit curious to know if I'd be satisfied with something even lower than 12mg. Im probably tempting fate here, but Ive so far not missed cigarettes even a little bit, so much so that I'm starting to wonder whether it was the nicotine I was addicted to, or really just "the act of smoking"?? Like, you know, something to do with my hands, if that makes any sense?

Does an ecig with 0mg still FEEL like smoking? Do you still feel something in the back of your throat? Or is it just like smoking fresh air?
