Hello all,

Ive been vaping for almost two months now. I have been a smoker for almost 14yrs...and I can honestly say I am so happy
I made the switch to e-cigs. I started out with disposable ones..then to something called "smokers alley" to an OVIS tank...
to using what I am now...the "Volt." The throat hit seems to be abit harsh with this thing..and I am not sure if thats because of
the high lvl of nicotine(24mg) or from the battery itself. I find myself rather obsessed since switching to this. I am about to order
my DIY kits to try and mix my own liquids. Well, I hope to hear from you all soon.. :)

I think throat hit comes from the mixture of Glycol you have in your e-cig. Battery may have something to do with it but I'm not into the variable voltage thing yet. When you order your DIY kit you can get propylene glycol (PG) which causes the throat hit or vegetable glycol (VG) which doesn't. I'm using straight PG right now but I think it's to much too. I've got VG on order and I'll be cutting the PG with VG at around 80/20 so I still get some throat hit but not so much. Be warned though, if you do decide to go with straight VG you'll probably need to cut it with distilled water unless it already is. It's seems to be to thick by itself and doesn't always work properly with a vaporizer.

Thanks! Wow 3 quick responses/welcomes...I dont know why I didnt register earlier lol. Yes "Chick B.." I've been trying to educate myself with this thing and I did pick up the fact that PG attributes to the throat hits and VG adds more vapor. I am not sure if I can ask the question here already, but here it goes...I think what I am about to order is a nicotine base at either 36mg or 60mg with 100% PG...my question would be how much of VG would I have to add to make it 80/20, for example, a 7ml bottle. If I am still restricted on asking that question...don't answer it lol.

*I forgot to mention I have found those calculators..but they seem to be abit misleading since I am going to be using 36-60mg of nic. base/100%VG

Depends on what you want your nicotine base to be in the end... and :D what percentage of flavor you want. There's about 140 drops in a 7ml bottle I think. Say you wanted a 12mg nicotine base from the 36mg nicotine base then 1/3 (40 drops) of your solution would be nicotine. 20% flavor would be 24 drops. That leaves 56 drops so for a 80PG/20VG ratio you would have 45 drops PG and 11 drops VG. Did this on my calculator for the halibut. There's some vaping calculators out there but I haven't found a good one for my mac yet. Also I think the drop method is to slow so I've got a syringe on order.

lol sorry...As I am here...I am thinking about ordering the kits...so I didn't quite say what I wanted...I guess it could be alittle trial and error for me in finding out the right percentages. I was so excited to start mixing I went to the local Walmart store just to grab these flavor bases..I hope they are the correct ones---I am thinking they are considering they contain PG(crosses fingers).

*Chick" -Would I still have to add "45drops PG" if the nic base already has 100% PG? TY, btw

Ummm...just an observation, but are you really thinking of vaping something when you're not sure of the ingredients?

I don't quite understand...I do know the ingredients in this flavor I picked up contains PG, water, natural and artificial flavors..Maybe the the unsure part comes from not knowing what ingredients are used in actual e-liquids online. Then again...this idea of being able to mix my own juices just kinda excites me lol

No worries :) It still depends on what you want for a final nicotine base at the end of your mix. If you got that 36mg nicotine, filled your 7ml container up with 24 drops of flavor and the rest up with the nicotine base you'd have almost 29mg of nicotine in there. That's about 5mg of nicotine more that a pack of marlboro reds.

@ocelot 8 more and I get a banner :)

LOL...Right now my cartomizer and pre-made liquids are both at 24mg in strength...I'm gonna stay away from the extra 5mg...Ill probably aim for something around 11-18...as I used to smoke camel lights. I am not worried about how many more post I'd have to make to reach that certain quota...I am thinking by sometimes next year..I'll be caught up with Ocelot :)..Thanks again for the warm welcome guys.

Congratulations & welcome to ECF Forum!!!! As you can see, we're a pretty helpful bunch here ;)

Lower nic levels usually decrease throat hit (At least that's been 'my' experience).... but PG/VG levels can affect that also. I've tried the VOLT with their 24mg Cartos and think they have the 'perfect' throat hit (for me). I really don't think its' the batt... play around with some lower nic levels and since you're going DIY... play around with the PG/VG also. Bear in mind that PG is rather drying, so drink lots of water if you use higher PG levels in your nic liquids. If you use more VG I think this affects throat hit also, but is also largely responsible for tons of vapor. The perfect flavor, vapor & throat hit that works best for me is 24mg Nicotine liquid- 70PG/30VG ratio. Try lowering the Nic to 18 (or even lower) and see if that softens the throat hit for ya. :smokie:

I will definitely give that a shot once I get the bases shipped to me. I must add..being on this forum is rather more addicting than the nicotine itself lol. Goodnite All :)
