Well, I guess I am banished to this forum until I get a few posts in, so might as well say hello! I'm a Canadian hoping to purchase a e-cig this week but am way too overwhelmed with all the info; especially due to the fact that Canada seems a little hard to get shipped to. If anyone is from the Canadian forum and notices this, your help would be appreciated.

Been smoking for 15 years now - up to 2 packs a day at one point, now about half a pack a day. I know these aren't cessation products, but sure worth a try for me :)

When you first start vaping, vapor feels weird and foreign to inhale and most cough at first

Nicotine in 100% PG is most likely to cause irritation. For atomizers try PG w/ 20% VG or more and for cartomizers I find PG with 10-20% VG works best and helps the cartomizer last longer. Also juices that are dark or cloudy and drop flavoring sediment will gunk up atomizer coils faster and clog cartomizers, ruining the drag and shortening the life of the carto. VG is very thick and a it sweeter. VG makes nice thick vapor, smooths nicotine irrtation, but also dulls TH and flavor

If you overdo vaping with very high nicotine or 100% PG juices with nicotine you may get irritated tongue, outh, throat or even lungs because nicotine is a skin irritant. You need to find a balance of TH and flavor and vapor you like that is not irritating to you and a bit of VG can help that. If you use atomizers you can use high VG juices if you want but they are tough to use in cartomizers or tanks which people find more convenient for vaping.

Longer term effects are great!! My sinuses cleared up 3 days after I started vaping instead of smoking. Within 2 weeks my sense of smell and taste came back and I was very hungry for about a week and everything tasted so much better. And over time my breathing improved, my cheeks became a healthy pink, I can go up stairs without getting winded. I feel better and I don't smell like an ashtray.

Here's a question for you experienced vapers (or whatever you call yourselves :)) Are there any side effects you've noticed? Once you've quit smoking "analogs" do you notice a difference in breathing, or does the vapour hamper breathing at all?

For me, the biggest side effect was a very dry and eventually sore throat. The vapor you exhale from an e-cig is partially made up from moisture in your respiratory system, so you really need to keep yourself hydrated at first. It only lasted about 4 or 5 days for me, and now it's fine and I don't particularly need to hydrate any more than normal.

The other potential concern is nicotine overdose. Vaping is a lot of fun, especially when you start out. There's a ton of flavors/techniques/devices to try, and if you don't smoke indoors, suddenly being able to vape inside (no odor, no smoke, so why not) is a novelty. Also, with analogs, you know when you've had too much. Your throat burns a bit and they stop tasting good. That doesn't really happen with vaping. So it's easy to overdo it. Nicotine overdose usually starts with some dizziness, lack of focus, etc. Nothing serious, but enough to tell you to drop the e-cig for a few hours.
