I've only been using silica on drippers, so I have read very little of the tank style and ss mesh threads. I bought 2 squares of 45mm by 45mm mesh at 450 and 500 grade from EmpireMods to try an ss mesh wick.

I did a quick search and got a little overwhelmed. I know there's lot's of opinions of the best ways.. oxidize or not, hollow vs solid, peter k, etc etc. Most seemed to be about making them for tanks to.

So I'm hoping someone can give me a brief primer to make a workable ss wick for a dripper; or a link to a video or thread that you feel gives good advice. I have a bunch of drippers, from ERA clones to IGO-L and S to Fatty clone etc. I have a mech mod, torch, diff gauges of kanthal and nichrome. I'll be looking at flavor to decide if I like it better than what I'm using. I mainly vape extracted tobaccos of all ratios, but vape all other types of juice too. Thanks for any guidance/advice/links!

for dripping w/ mesh, I give the unrolled mesh a gentle once over with a low flame torch. This should be enough to be rid of any concerns with contact with deck and rim of atty. Still, you'll be doing a tad of pulsing in. A little strip; 1/2" (or whatever length your atty will fit) x 1 1/4"-ish should do. Obviously, micro heat is intense for tobacco extracts. Maybe a gentler wrap. I do drill bit. Mesh wick should "corkscrew" in and slide once inside the coil. Snugness is like, hard to start it sliding; but once you get it moving, it should slide all day long. Vertical works great with mesh.

side note: I've noticed that the mesh pulls your coil glow off-center. This I think is electrical shorting. The extent to which your glow pattern is centered and symmetrical is an indication of the perfection of your coil-to-mesh tension.

I only like SS in gennys, drippers get Ekowool. I have used it in a dripper it was good just not AS good as the ekowool. I only lightly torched where my coil is going to be at and nowhere else

Yeah, I'm pretty happy doing my almost-micro coils with German silica. Since I was ordering from EM anyways, figured picking up a couple squares of ss mesh for only 99 cents to try it. Before I dismiss it I want to make sure I'm at least doing it right lol. I was surprised by how fine the mesh is, not what I was expecting.

Still want to try ekowool and braided ceramic. Those have more of a chance of replacing my German silica.
