Wooden doll rod you can buy it at craft store's or hardware store's,home improvement store's images doll rod.jpg You will have to bring your tank and get the right size.I would make sure it is a tight fit in the tank.

I was planning to do the same thing. I was just going to use a sander. They are plastic? Pipe cutters are for metal pipe as far as I know.

The XL cartos are a pain to get ahold of. They are harder to fill.

Get a dowel rod that fits inside the tube perfectly(not hard, it's a standard size), and use a pipe cutter. The dowel prevents the tube from squeezing inward, stopping the cap from going on. It works perfectly, and it's super easy.

Yes a pipe cutter is generally made for metal pipe, but that just means it will take less turns to cut through.

The dowel is a great idea. I've never run into this issue but i often hear about how people keep busting their tanks out.

screw feed pipe cutters are good for just about anything. i work strictly with pipe (welding, soldering, glueing, bolting.... stainless, copper pvc, cast iron). I use those ridgid screw feed cutters for everything small diameter. all types of metals and plastics. it'll do just fine provided you feed slow and run it around the tank often. pay attention and make sure your wheel doesn't track.

let us know how it works for you!

Try it with what you have? I use short cartos with the Momnpop 6ml, and have seen people use them on other tanks.

The short cartos usually go halfway into the top grommet, and then the DT meets it halfway. Makes for a nice compact unit.

On the Momnpop type, After placing carto with grommet into the bottom, I then put the DT on, then slide top grommet down over all that.
