taking the 18mg/ml as a desired result and counting only the price for 500ml of nicotine liquid and the price for 500ml of PG/VG:

48/18~2.6
2.6*500=1300
so ~ 1,3L
1300-500=800 PG or VG

500ml Nic=34.29 $
800ml PG / VG = 15.18 $
price for 1L of 18mg/ml = 38.05 $

same calculations as above using a 100mg/ml Nic liquid:
price for 1L of 18mg/ml = 31.95 $

hmm i'm not that good with calculations and i calculated the pg/vg liquid in 500ml bottles but the price for the gallon is lower. so yea, around 29 $ for 1L using 100mg/ml and WizardLabs prices.

Albcig finally had time to looks at your numbers -- and afraid you have some wonky math. Perhaps you assumed purchasing 500ml of nic even when only using 180ml, etc.? Prices to mix 1 liter at 18mg/ml are:

with 48mg nic = $37.58
with 100mg nic = $37.16

And this $.40 difference in price isn't enough to cover the extra equipment needed. Again it's falsehood that buying nic in higher concentrations is cheaper.

hmm, you are right about my calculations being bad. you are right about the lower price on a 48mg/ml mixture. your calculations are wrong.

this is what i did, so lets compare notes :).

500ml of 100mg/ml=56.99$ -> 1ml = 0.11398$
500ml of 48mg/ml=34.29$ -> 1ml = 0.06858$
500ml of PG/VG=9.49S -> 1ml = 0.01898 $

1L of 18mg/ml mixing 100mg/ml + PG/VG
NIC 180ml
PG/VG 820 ml

(180ml*0.11398$) + (820ml*0.01898$) = 36.08$

1L of 18mg/ml mixing 48mg/ml + PG/VG
NIC 375 ml
PG/VG 425 ml

(375ml*0.06858$) + (425ml*0.01898$) = 33.784$

so yea, good point, using a 48mg/ml is cheaper.

:) Noticed a couple things. The second term in the 48mg calculation should be (625ml*0.01898$) rather than (425ml*0.01898$). And in the 100mg calculation, the nic price should be based on 250ml (rather than 500ml) as only 180ml is used.

With these two changes, our numbers should be identical (other than rounding). And factually demonstrate that higher nic concentrations are not cheaper as a rule (though there are probably exceptions somewhere). However perhaps our math struggles also fully illustrate why we're all better off when noob DIYers start out with lower level nic concentrations.

And here's my math (cross-posted):

Goal: Make 1 Liter nicotine base at 18mg/ml strength

Using 48ml concentrate:

If using 48ml concentrate, you will need: 375 ml of nic (@48mg) and 625 ml of vg/pg

Then, to mix this, you will need to buy:

500ml of nic (@48mg) - $34.29
500ml of VG (two bottles required) - $9.49 x 2 = $18.98

Then prorate costs by the amounts actually used to get the total actual cost:

$34.29 x (375/500) + $18.98 x (625/1000) = $37.48

Using 100ml concentrate:

If using 100ml concentrate, you will need: 180 ml of nic (@100mg) and 820 ml of vg/pg

Then, to mix this, you will need to buy (prices from WL):

250ml of nic (@100mg) - $29.99
500ml of VG (two bottles required) - $9.49 x 2 = $18.98

Then prorate costs by amounts used to get the total actual cost:

$29.99 x (180/250) + $18.98 x (820/1000) = $37.16

Best, Vanilla
