WL restocks very quickly. Usually within a day or two. As far as flavors with oils be very careful. Oil based flavors are not good to vape. I don't recall any alcohol based flavors made for vaping ever containing oil. I could be wrong if some flavors are natural essence oils but you should check with the seller first before using them.

I was curious because WL sells Absinthe Flavor | Ingredients: Anise Star Ess. Oil, Ethyl Alcohol | from TFA. It's an essential oil. I would assume people use this?

I don't use it so maybe others can comment. I do know that some of the off the shelf supermarket flavorings have oil and other ingredents that are not good to vape. There are many comments on this on the forum. Just to be safe I would check with the supplier first.

I use it. I also use peppermint oil and another anise oil. They make good vape for me.

Some oils are OK, but not all. Cooking oil and mineral oil are to blame for a disease mostly found in fire eaters. Scubabatdan had a nice list of various oils in a thread a few months back that was pretty informative. (Don't have the link handy.)

I'm slowly planning on getting into DIY. Basically playing with numbers and reading a lot.

As I was playing around with a calculator I can't seem to wrap my brain around this:

Scenario (this is purely an example):

I have 48mg Nic. base @ 100% PG |Target of 30/70 PG/VG | Target Nic. Strength of 18mg | 10ml Bottle

1 Flavor @ 6%

The calculator results in negative amounts of PG to add (-0.68) which of course is impossible.

I'm aware this is because the flavorings contain PG as well and the Nic. base is 100% PG.

The only way I can get the calculator to spit out something right is if the target is 50/50 PG/VG or target Nic. is around 8mg

My question is, what can be done to get it to work with a higher VG (ex. 30/70 PG/VG).

  • Would I need to get both PG & VG based nicotine?
  • Purchase a higher Nic. base?
  • Dilute the 48mg with equal parts of VG, thus bringing it down to 24mg 50/50 PG/VG?

Also, I've read that nicotine doesn't stay well in 100% VG for long periods.

I could possibly be having one of those days as well.

Hey Goo let's do it the Easy way.
I'm going to make a 30ml Bottle and at the end divide by 3. 10ml is just too small to work with well.

Solution is easy
1. buy pg separately
2. Buy 100mg PG Nic Base
3. Buy VG separately

Step 1 Add 1.8ml of flavoring. Calculation 6% of 30ml is 1.8ml

Step 2 Add 5.4 Ml of 100mg Nic
Calculation your Nic 100mg Strength of Pg in a 30ml bottle is 3.33 mg for every ML so 18mg final strength over 3.33mg is 5.4ml

Step 3 Add 1.8ml of PG
Calculation- If you count your flavoring as PG than to this point you have a total of 5.4+1.8= 7.2ml of PG
in the bottle. Then if you take 30ml * .3 and you'll see that you need to raise the Pg to 9ml. So 9ml-7.2ml= 1.8ml

Step 4 fill to the top with VG. [21ml VG] You are done.

So to make a 10ml bottle just divide my numbers by 3
1. .6ml Flavoring
2. 1.8ml Of 100mg PG Base
3. .6 of PG
4. Fill the remaining 7ml with VG

Done

I've never had an issue with VG Nic Base losing Potency and I've been DIY for more than 2 years,
so variation, if you decide that I'm right than 100mg VG will give you more flexability because your figuring of 6% is just too low, often the mixture takes 20% so you will be dead in the water unless your using VG Nic Base 100mg.

So
Using 100mg VG instead of PG for 30ML Bottle

1. Add 1.8ml flavor [PG]
2. Add 5.4 ML VG 100mg Base
3. Add 7.2ML PG
4. Fill to the top with VG [15.6ML]

and for 10ml Bottle
1. .6ml Flavor
2. 1.8ml VG 100MG Base
3. 2.4ML PG
4. Fill to top with VG 5.2ml

Interesting..............mathematically this works using PG based nic and flavoring. Wondering, what nic strength are you trying to achieve? Using the calculator that I have....to use 20% nic and 20% flavor with equal PG/VG additive sets around 10mg nic. Many use or want higher nic strength so for that you wouldn't be able to use equal PG/VG. Right?!?

I typically make 18mg strength juice. Recently, 20mg just for sake of the numbers coming out whole.

Of course, as your nic % goes up or down, your PG or VG amounts go up or down equally too. Which one is obviously dependent upon which nic base your using.

And like I was saying, this only works great for me because I use a 100mg PG based nic. The lower strengths simply require changing up the %'s a bit...

IE. To use your numbers, I want to make a 20mg nic juice and I'm using 48mg strength PG based nic. I want 20% flavoring, say at a 10mL qty. for the sake of the example....Well, to shoot for as equal amounts of PG/VG added as possible means playing with the %'s a bit. With the numbers we already know we want, we would need a 81/19 mix of PG/VG. 4.17mL of nic, 2mL of flavoring, AND 1.93mL of PG, and 1.9mL of VG. I would say that's as equal as we could get! LOL Using my dropper anyway it's 1.14 drops difference! OR...essentially no difference at all!

So I typically make a 70/30 PG/VG mix with most of my juices mainly due to the fact that I have 100mg PG based nic and it just works out for me that way by TRYING to add as equal amounts as possible of the added PG and VG, if not EXACT. Actually there are some juices I've made at lower flavor %'s where I didn't need to even take out my PG! By tweaking the numbers a bit my added PG was ZERO! 70/30 is what I shoot for. Sometimes it's 72/28, or 68/32, etc...

There are always exceptions of course...if I wanted to vape a complex juice at a higher voltage (say 5.5-6V) in an RBA using ss mesh, cable etc...I might wanna up the VG a bit...but so far my %'s work out pretty well.

All of this just helps me maximize the amounts of PG and VG I have on hand to make as many juices as possible with what I've got.

In the end it's all about tweaking the %'s to get where you want which is a bit easier with the higher % nic bases.

I hope this helped!

Vape on! :vapor:

I always type in my email address in the "notify me" box that pops up there. Sometimes, it can be literally a couple of hours. One time I ended up combining 3 orders in one before they were ready to ship because the flavors I wanted were popping up in my Email as available within a few hours!

The flip side is they sell out quick too of the more popular flavors if you don't put the order in first.

But, again, the good news is they have no problem with you adding on by checking "pick up local" and then adding your original order # to the comment section.

I would call them and talk with Susie over there if that ever happens, and I don't make it a habit. :p

Peace!
