Welcome to the forum JHMan.

The little light flickering is normal - assuming it is red and flickers to green every few seconds. As the battery continues to charge, you will see that light eventually change to a steady green when the battery is fully charged.

I wouldn't normally recommend charging batteries unattended or while you sleep, but I know a lot of people do.

Usually, the steady green light on the charger changes to red when you hook up the battery - the LED in the 'fire' button of you battery should be blinking rapdily a couple of times. While charging , the light on the charge switches to green briefly. Once fully charged it should display a steady green.

Leaving the batteries on the charger unattended isn't really a good idea. It's a very slim chance but not impossible that you could have a faulty battery. If you worried, check. If it becomes hot to the touch, disconnect and dispose...

IF you're going to charge your batteries unattended, and it's definitely not recommended, either purchase a charging battery bag (you can find them on Amazon) or kit bash something unbreakable and non-flammable with a lid to charge in. Cookie tins, metal tool or tackle boxes and cash or ammo boxes all have possibilities. Just remember to line it with something non conductive as batteries on metal could be a problem. We've had several members put their replaceable batteries in a pocket with keys or change and caused a short.

About half of my chargers make my batteries flash or blink as I charge them. At first I thought something was wrong with my battery but then I noticed it wasn't the battery that was causing this, but the charger. When I put the same battery on a different charger it did not cause my battery to blink.
This may be the issue that you have also.
