A 79 yr old friend of mine with COPD has ask me to set her up with an e-cigarette. She is on oxygen as well as doing some other form of treatment 4 times a day. She probably only smokes a couple of cigarettes a day, but she can really feel what those are doing to her and still can't seem to stop. I don't know very much about the disease, so any help you could give me about how to help her transition would be appreciated.

I was planning on giving her one of my older 901's to try, but right now the only tobacco flavors I have are 24mg PG. I have some flavors in 18mg, but everything I have is PG. Is the PG too harsh if you suffer from COPD?

COPD is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder, which is a general term. Bronchitis and emphysema fall into this category. In a nutshell, the air you breathe in is supposed to get through tiny bronchial tubes into air sacs; the air sacs are where the blood gets oxygen and releases carbon dioxide. With COPD, the bronchial tubes become clogged, so less oxygen gets into the blood and less carbon dioxide gets out of the blood. She's on oxygen to compensate (more oxygen and less nitrogen trying to compete for space in the bronchial tubes). Oxygen is extremely flammable. If she's still smoking cigarettes, I hope she's taking precautions.

The problem with COPD is getting oxygen (or nicotine, whatever) into the blood. I've never used PG (only VG), but I've heard that it provides more of a throat hit. This should not be a problem with COPD. You might want to check with her doctor to be safe; there may be a medical reason not to use either or to chose one over the other. If it's OK with her doctor, consider getting high nic juices. Remember, throat hit shouldn't be a problem (specific to COPD; she may have other issues). It seems to me that the higher the nicotine concentration, the less vapor trying to compete with oxygen (and nicotine) in the reduced space within the bronchial tubes.
