Yeah, she showed me the paperwork her dr gave her. She's been smoking for decades and now has got the COPD. I showed her my e-cig and she didnt seem interested at all, even used it aroudn her. She only says she doesnt want to get "addicted to that too" - and she quit smoking for 1 whole day, then picked them back up. She says shes cutting back but I just dont believe her. I'm hoping the best, but really wish she'd give e-smoking a try. She just downplays it every time "I'll end up chewing on the tip" or "I don't want to be addicted to that too" or "I'm quitting smoking and nicotine" and just doesn't even want to try this out even though its been the most effective tool I've ever seen :(

Just wanted to get on my soap box for a minute, thanks..

Wait a minute..her argument that she doesn't want to get addicted to that TOO doesn't really hold any water. She's ALREADY addicted to nicotine. That's the MAIN addictive property of cigarettes..NOT the 4000+ chemicals.

I smoked for 25 years, a pack a day, had NO intention of quitting, yet, here I am.

I'm a paramedic and you can tell her this for me...COPD is a TERRIBLE disease for some people. I don't know HOW severe her diagnosis is. But, it wasn't the nicotine that did the damage to her airways, it was everything ELSE in the cigs.

PG is used as a method of delivery in ASTHMA inhalers..something she might have to get used to if she doesn't quit smoking.

I know that, for US to be saying it like that is the pot calling the kettle black, but strangely enough, it was never the CANCER calls that made me want to pitch my pack of smokes, it was the BAD COPD one's.

Nothing like having to actually DROP the back of a stretcher down so you can get a BVM over someone's nose and mouth because they CAN'T breathe, they panic when something ELSE is going over their airways. Y'know WHY we drop the back? So they'll LOSE enough oxygen so that we can start FORCING it in there. Not a nice thing to do, but it's a commonly used 'trick'.

When someone's panicking for air and they won't let you GIVE it to them, you do what you have to do.

If you want to, read my response to your friend.

I'm sorry for coming across as a bit of a 'hard ...' to you, I KNOW you're doing all you can to help your friend and that's what I'M trying to help YOU with. Ammunition. You can't FORCE her to do it, but you have to TRY.

Good luck, we're all rooting for BOTH of you!!

Bummer, they are not for everyone, just like everything else. Don`t know if that is an older person, I assume so? Some older people have trouble embracing technology, and or change. It was like all the older people who had to buy converters for their TVs last year due to the signal change, and their rabbit ears not working anymore.

I will say this, as I have experience in other battles in life. Don`t waste you`re time trying to "give" something to someone who doesn`t want it. That time would be better spent giving to someone who does, even if it`s not a loved one.

Thanks guys, it makes sense. Not going to try to push the issue anymore for sure. Yeah she's in her upper 50's, and doesn't use computers / technology much at all. Anywho I have enough cones/batts/atty's to make her a kit should she change her mind. All I'll do is continue vaping.. Who knows, maybe she'll actually just quit smokign and not have to replace it with anything?? time will tell I suppose.

That WOULD be the ideal scenario Vapin!! Good luck with her and keep us posted please!!

I do have to add this. I got a friend (younger than me) who is a diabetic and she smokes. In a couple of months, she's headed back into the hospital to have her leg veins cleared again.
She won't even think about the e-cig and is constantly saying, "I'm gonna quit."

I know your worried, but don't count on the friend quitting.

As was said, some people are there own worst enemy. Don't they realize how selfish that they are being? If they want to die, fine but what about all the people who love and care about them?

Perhaps if you would argue the point in this way with your friend, she might see the light. Heck, invest some cash yourself and buy her a 510 kit and some liquid and make her use it in front of you, the worse that could happen is that you will wind up with an extra 510 kit.

anywhere my broomstick takes me
Im sorry to hear that your freind has copd...

I have copd..
I was diagnosed with copd about 7 yrs ago?

Luckily im not oxygen and im trying to avoid it..

When I was first diagnosed I was scared and in shock..

My family wanted me to stop smoking asap..I wanted to stop smoking..I tried gum, nic patches, even chantix, which chantix was a horrid experience for me...

so, I kept smoking...

However, december 2nd of 09, i got my first ecig..it was the mini ecig and I was so dissapointed in it and almost trashed it...

BUT< i decided to try another ecig, the penstyle...the penstyle and I got along just fine..

I have been smoke free since dec 7th of 09...Ive been vaping since the 7th of dec, 09..

Ive been able to stop 2 of my copd medications...

tho i still use my quick inhaler at times...

dont get me wrong, i still get winded , but not as winded as i use to get...

now that im smoke free, im sooooooo happy..

I cant stop the progression of my copd, but i can dang sure slow the progression, jmho

eta, my family doc is proud of me...

my lung doc, well i havent seen him in 6 months...

I wanna wait til im a yr free of cigs, then go see him...

I hope maybe in time your freind will give ecigs a chance

Whether its being stubborn, hard headed, skeptical, or what ever, people like her (and me) lol have to make it our idea.

just give her the websites, and she can check things out herself, watch some videos and give it a try, if you really want to go the extra mile you can get a single cheap unit from Tasty Vapor and just give it to her, let her know you care and that it's hers for when ever she want to give it a try. a 510 batt and atty will run ya 10 bucks and if you think you know a flavor that she would love, get it too.

I have been smoking for 28 years, pack to pack n a half a day. vaping for 2 weeks, cheated first week (but only 4 real cigs a day which was WOW) and now clean of the nasty crap. I just ordered to give my son, and on next order i will be getting one for several members of my family back east.

I am so impressed with all this. better for my life and the money is gonna be crazy. how many investments pay for themselves within one month. then saves you $120 every month after. Im sure i will spend 20 a month or juice and replacements but thats still WOW.

Best of luck to her, you, and all us addicts.

Spread the word, spread the love, they will eventually thank you.

Keep Vaping

Sorry to hear about your friend :( . I don't know why people seem so reluctent to try something else. I have loads of friends who complain that they want to quit soo bad but if I offer them a PV, snus, snuff ect then I get the same "I don't want to get addicted to anything else" response. What a joke. Believe me your not going to continue the same smoking habit AND use these other alternatives. Your body won't let you.
The worst part was when I went camping for memorial weekend with some old friends who were all concerned about my chain smoking. After watching me not smoke all weekend I could not convince a single person to even consider switching to an e-cig or snus.
I guess I would say not to be pushy and just keep using your PV in front of your friend like it's their loss. Eventually there will be a point where they have the choice to quit, die, or cheat the system like we're doing. :)

Maybe all of these "testimonies" will help her make the right decision so here's mine.....I was diagnosed with severe COPD a year and a half ago. My spirometer reading then was 37%. It was discovered on a pre employment screening and the doctor wanted me to come back and get on meds to help me with my breathing. I wheezed terribly and snored to high heaven! I started vaping April 5th and haven't even wanted to smoke since I started. I had to be fitted for a respirator at work and they did it on site. Along with that fitting, we received pulmonary testing which included a spirometer test. My blood pressure is down, my pulse rate is way down (71 as opposed to mid 80s to upper 90s) and my spirometer readings were 101% 102% and 103%. They said nothing about COPD!!! I'm elated and very thankful that this miracle called E cigarettes became a part of my life because I believe they have saved my life. I don't think I would ever have quit again after having quit for nearly 14 years and starting again. Please tell her my story and that I'm 56 years old and now expect to live a normal life span thanks to E cigs and the wonderful people on this forum who have taught me everything I needed to know to be successful. Try printing some of the topics here and letting her read them if she's not a computer buff. There's got to be a way to reach her.
