Ok, followed the directions, did the dry burn thing, and got the big chunks of gunk off of the coil (well, most of it anyways, didn't want to break the col scraping too much), but even after rinsing in warm water several times, using an ultrasonic toothbrush to clean, I am still getting a nasty taste in the coil. tastes just like the stuff on the coil smelled during dry burn to remove. nasty. is soaking it in vodka the way to go here? also, is there anything besides a dry burn to remove the burned on gunk from the coil? does anything out there "de-gunk" it by soaking? thanks in advance.

Hi again dezyner,
From my reading, it is unlikely that anything is more effective than dry-burning. Everything has already been tryed
From my trade, it is unlikely that anything is more effective than heat.
If you watched youtube and dry-burned as shown, 5sec on 5 sec off, 5 sec on 5 sec off, and you had to scrape the coil, maybe you waited to long to clean. You can try vodka, no harm, i use it when water doesn't get the wicks clean. But, it doesn't hurt anything to clean every couple days and dry-burn atleast once a week if not sooner. I agree, clean after the dry-burn.

Sorry to tell you that chances are that the atty's about done. Once the chunks are big, the remaining pieces will continue to give off that taste and I believe it creates hot spots on the remaining coil which, for me, has killed them soon after. I'm dry burning sooner and more regularly now and the results are great.

My experience is that if I get a thick burnt crust on the coil, which for me usually happens with thick juice( high VG%), I have to get all that crust off. One little remaining bit will fowl the taste. I'd suggest just trying to pick it off, you really have nothing to lose, then rerinse and dry burn. If it does'nt work, time to ditch it.

part of my problem was the vanilla I was using had mass amounts of sugar. so I cut that out, helped alot. after i dry burn and scrape the coils off, I soak them overnight in water, dry them off and so far, I only trashed one head. got a little heavy handed with the needle when scraping the crud off. thanks for all the help, i got it I think. the nasty taste goes away after a few draws. i was hoping there was a liquid solution to get the gunk off. food for thought, maybe one can be invented, i bet it would sell right off the shelves....

Been dripping now for 3+ years.... What I do is blow my attys clear a couple times a day... Clears out the concentrated stuff. When I dry burn its just for 1-2 seconds max... If you dry burn attys to long, especially an atty with wicking material it will burn that material... That burned flavor can be impossibe to get rid of sometimes... Blow clear-short dry burn... is what I recommened.. I also use unflavored e-liquid... Some of the flavors especially dark juices really gunk up the works...

Hers a atty refesher... I have never used it so I cant comment..

For a non-dry burn cleaning have you tried soaking the coil overnight using denture tablets?

I read a post a while back that it worked pretty good. Haven't tried it myself though.

^^ This is what I do, rinse, pat dry, dry burn until I get a nice, even glowing red/orange. I look at them with the little device Dr's use to look in your ears and nose, and if the wires look clean and I can't see any gunk attached, I drop them in a container with hot water and a denture tablet. Soak overnight. Rinse. Have another look in there and make sure I don't see anything that looks icky (if I do, I repeat the process) Then let them dry totally before I add them to the container I pull from when I swap out the next time.

So far, I've only taken one that I can not get one blob of gunk out from in between 2 wraps of the coil out of rotation. I might pick at it one night, or I might just pitch it. They are $3 ... and I have dozens ... it's not like I NEED it!! LOL

thanks for all the info. i really like the denture tab idea, should work on CE4 coils too, I would think???? if not, someone sing out. I wasn't asking about dripping, those attys are pretty easy to clean, really straight forward, but thanks anyways for trying to help. I'm looking for CE4 info, how to clean those coils. thanks all.
