I have heard of this but it's never happened to me. My smoke alarm is sensitive too, it can go off from making toast or grilling on my patio, but never from vaping. I heard it can be from the type if alarm, like certain ones can visually see the vapor or smoke while others only can sense the smell (or something like that). I'm sure others will chime in for a better answer, but maybe it's time to get a new one or a vape friendly one.

I've been vaping for two months now and this is the first time it's happened. I thought it was just a rumour [emoji23] I'm just worried in case it happens again. I'm in the bedroom slightly above it.

Maybe a new juice you have that's higher in vg, which gives more vapor? Or your just producing more vapor now? Maybe your alarm is just tired of all the vapor and wants out [emoji1]. Maybe it's acting weird cause its old or needs a battery? Not sure if any of that's possible, just throwing it out there.

I've set mine off if I walk under it, and exhale a cloud at the same time.
You could put a shower cap over it, but that kind of defeats the purpose of a smoke alarm.
Works good in hotel rooms tho. Just be sure to remove it when you're not vaping.
Thank you. I might just do that :)

I used to set my smoke alarm off regularly so I bought a fan to move the air around and have had no problems since.

I could've moved the smoke detector but, yeah, lazy
I've got a fan lying about. Might just do that.

It's worked for me for a couple of years now. Just position it so it's moving the clouds away from the smoke detector.

If your smoke detector is a photoelectric type you can cover the eye that 'watches' for smoke.

Ionization detectors have a chamber with a reference sample, and another chamber open to the current air in the room. It compares the two and triggers an alarm based on the comparison.

Most newer ones use both, unless it's a REALLY cheap one.

Smoke alarms can malfunction as the reference sample degrades causing them to give more false alarms or none at all. That is why smoke alarms have an expiration date and are supposed to be replaced every 5 years.
I would check the date on the back of your detector.

Any method you use to keep it from going off will defeat its purpose of keeping you safe, except the fan of course.

And put one upstairs near your bedrooms as @sdennislee said. Would suck to prolong your life by quitting stinkies only to lose it cause you forgot to take the shower cap off of the detector, uncover the eye, or was too far away to hear it. ;)

Stupid question, guys:

I was watching T.V., casually vaping away, as usual, then all of a sudden, my smoke alarm started going nuts.

Forgive me for being naiive, but is there any way to prevent this, or was this just a fluke [emoji23]

I've set mine off, and what sux is that mine are hard wired into my home and all connected.
If one goes off, they ALL go off.
The fam was not happy that evening at about 11:30 P.M. o_O

I've got high ceilings in my flat and 3 smoke detectors, if I blow a fat cloud under the one in the living room, it goes off and because they are linked, all 3 start sounding. :D

I have 8, when they go everyone hates me.

Ours are tied into the burglar alarm system. So far, they've never triggered mounted on the ceiling.
I guess smoke rises and vapor tends to fall or at least follow the prevailing currents in the air.

I have vaulted ceilings so mine are high on the wall.
Mine are tied into alarm system as well, but luckily I wasn't paying the extra for the fire monitoring when I set mine off. :)
