Is it manual or automatic?

The switch on the battery is stuck. Take the atomizer off and it will at least stop smoking and burning up the atomizer.

If it is a manual, you can fiddle with the button and make it stop. If it is automatic, try blowing through the end where the light is a few times. On some automatic batteries this will reset them (but not on all of them.)

Then try charging it again and see if it works. If not, dispose of it.

I think the njoy pro is an rn4081 model. It probably has auto batteries. Sometimes they do get stuck in the on position. Also, if the table you had it sitting on was vibrating from loud music os some other outside source it could activate.
Just unscrew the battery and then screw it back in. If it still happens, try the other battery.

As far as I know, NJOY has never used the sound activated batteries. Probably a stuck switch.

I vote stuck switch! I used to tap mine (like packing an analog, but upside down) to un-stick them. This is a problem I forgot I used to have til reading this post. These auto-batt's are mechanical not microphone. Sound never effected mine. Believe me, I'm an A/V technician who installs auditorium and stadium sound systems. If an 1800 lb cluster pumping out 20,000 watts won't trigger it, nothing will. You need to carry RN4081's cart down so the diaphragm switch inside the battery doesn't get soaked. Stand it up when not in use, especially if you drip.

I think that's sound advice for all models that have auto batteries. Never ever carry them with the cart facing up. That's just asking for it. Another reason why I love having a PCC with mine. It's always stored right side up in my coat pocket or on a table.
