The LED is wired independently of the dna...the voltage applied by the dna will activate the transistor as a switch, allowing the ground leg to close the circuit.
I was leaning towards the other method suggested because i dont understand some of the icons(?) used in the flow chart your referencing.
But that way sounds more stable.
